Suddenly my mind recalled the other time robbers broke in while I was gone. They took almost all my family valuables, many were not by price of great value but to my heart. Should I just lie here for it to be over? No! I don't want to go through the same pain as before! Then how about calling the police? Yeah! Rapidly I got out of bed paced to my moblie phone and dialed the police. Soon an operator responded. Quick and short I gave them my name, the situation, my address and bid them to hurry.
Suddenly I heard steps walking up the stairs. They're coming closer! I need something to defend myself but what? The mobile phone? Nope. The operator kept asking to respond quick-witted I ended the call, hoping the police are on their way. Until then I need to hold my ground and at best catch those thiefing bastards. No one messes with me. Breathe, don't get too emotional when it comes to fighting. Think, what can I use as a weapon? Be creative, use your imagination, use your head! Wait! Those are loud thieves, that must mean they aren't professionals and greater possibility that they aren't very smart, unless they brought with them guns or knieves. I must take a peek at them without being noticed.
On tiptoe I sneaked to the frame of the door where I heard movements and gruff voices. As I peeked I saw two tall built men with long coats and dark skimasks like in movies. They had their backs turned to me, rather expecting that I'm not around.
"What do you think of this?" Asked one to the other.
"Nah, this one has no expenses. I think we broke into the wrong house, she barely has any valuables to take."
As I guessed, those aren't professionals. As quietly as I could I sneaked downstairs to the living-room to find my great grandfather's Swiss military sabre. Luckily I found it quickly beneath the mess it was in and intact. As I drew it out of its sheath I recognized its marvel and the feeling of honor, really a shame to be covered in blood. I hope that won't happen, not to mention I am very rusty in fencing. Silently I snuck up and found them in my bedroom.
"Hey! The bed's warm!"
"What? That means we're not alone."
Rapidly I sprinted to them and pointed gently the tip of the sabre at one robber's back and the other I dared to use my finger to mimik as a pistole. "Correct. Don't you dare turn around or it will cost your life." The one I held against with my fingers I pushed him a bit. "You, walk over to the bed and tear the blankets and tie your friend." For once thankful to have a small bedroom. The robber did as asked without a word and other kept silent. Now I have to tie the other robber and need both hands for this. Rapidly an idea came to me. "Blind fold him too!" I ordered. Alright now it shouldn't be much of a problem as long I stay out of sight. Before starting I demanded both of them to sit down. They were sweating and trembling in fear. I thought I was the scardy-cat here.
As I finished tying them. I placed the sabre beside as I stood in front of them. "What made you two break in here?"
Before the others were able to give an answer I heard in the distance sirens wailing.
Not very long the police were in my room taking with them the robbers. One officer interviewed me what really happened and I explained to them. He blinked at me amazed. "This is not your first break in?"
I shook my head. From his reaction I came to realise that what I did was part foolish but very brave. Therefore I don't have to go through the same ordeal as before emotionally.
