The second thing that I realized was the fact that everything was completely quiet. This brought back so many memories of "dying" that my eyes snapped open.
The girl was rubbing something over my stomach which had several stitches going accross the stab wound that I suddenly realized had almost killed me.
"What happened?" I asked in a surprisingly rough voice. I could barely recognize myself, and my stomach still felt like it had gotten rolled over by a monster truck... Seven times.
The room I was in was much more closed off than the last, the walls were almost completely covered in drawers, shelves, equipment, or monitors. My bed was in the very center of the room. With a railing that went about two feet above my head when I laid down, completely surrounding it. The girl had opened a small door in one of the sides railing to rub the ointment on my stomach. A large device on the cieling, with a red light beam coming down from it moved back and fourth, scanning my body. The room was darker than the other, with lights running along the place where the ceiling and wall met, all around the room.
The girl looked at me. "Something happened in the virtual world to make you hurt in real life. Ever since, several occurrences of the same has happened. We're looking for simularities in all of you, that's what the scanner is for." She said it all smoothly and calmly, but I could just barely here the strain in her voice.
"And have you found anything yet, uh, what's your name?" I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me, that happened a lot.
She smiled a bit. "My name is Emma, and no, we haven't yet, we can't seem to understand what is happening in all of you to make the virtual world become any type of reality."
"Any type?" I asked, confused. "I thought there was only this reality. Is there more than one reality?" Now I was confused, but I was also desperate to hear answers that might save Josh.
She thought for a moment, as if trying to decide how to tell me that my mom had flushed my gold fish and my dog just got hit by a truck driven by a duck.
"Well, when some wake up, they go into a different dimension, there's five dimensions, all slightly different. In one you can't even get hurt. But we've been communicating with the other four different dimensions and all of them have had these occurrences with the expirement, none have avious reasons either. And beetween you and me, if you group all the dimensions together, there's already been seven deaths."
I could have handled it, but the word death sent chills up my spine. Not only because I had experienced it, but because Josh was down there, and someone was planning to kill him.
"Maybe if you just let me go in-" she cut me off.
"We've been over this, Hannah. You would go completely bonkers if we let you go down there!"
"Than just wipe this part of my memory!" I persisted, there had to be someway I could get down there safely.
"We only do that on extreme cases and-"
"And this is an extreme case!"
"But you wouldn't even remember coming here, you would remember dying and that might drive you crazy in itself, you wouldn't even know what to do. It's just not and option Hannah, I'm sorry. Now as I mentioned before, if you give me the boys name, I'll find him, see what he's doing in the virtual world, and if I find a similarity beetween him and our other victims, I will pull him out, though it will be dangerous.."
I thought for a second. "Okay."
She looked surprised for a second, but then she went back to her calm, collected state of being. "Alrighty then. His name please?" She pulled out her notepad.
"Josh Thomas Evergreen." Her hand froze in the middle of writer Evergreen.
"You know Josh?" She asked, her voice tight and full of emotion that she didn't usualy show.
Panic flared up inside of me. "Why, is he okay?" A thought came to mind. "H-he's not d-dead is he?"
She shook her head, a tear rolling down her cheek. "He's fine, it's just-" Her voice cracked. "Josh is my older brother."
