Jumping over fences into other people’s gardens I tried to get as far away from that house as I could and I was never going back no matter what. Getting out into the open I went to find somewhere I could hide I didn’t know what people would think of me looking like what I do and from my experience it wasn’t very good.
Running down a road the passing houses started to thin out and a forest soon started to grow closer and closer expanding in size increasing my chances of not being found. Scrambling in to the dense trees which blocked any sun shining down I carried on to run deep into my escape, I was going to fight anyone that got in my way I was never going to be ‘owned’ again.
Soon the trees started to thin out and a river was heard in the distance begging for someone to go to it, so that’s what I did still running I found myself at the water’s edge. Looking down at my reflection I flinched at the sight, no wonder no one liked me I was a monster.
Over the years of being trapped you learn something’s about yourself, I learnt what I could do and I practiced until I could do it without even thinking about it, doing it by accident once the rope ties were rubbing on my wrists and I couldn’t get out my uncle was there watching me, so thinking about my fur being just a little bit longer so it wouldn’t hurt it happened, my fur started to grow and it was just like a cushion.
So taking this power in practice I found that I could change everything about me from the colour of my skin to the position in which my legs looked like, looking at my reflection in the running water I started to morph my body, I made myself look like the humans, it wasn’t that hard just removing the fur and changing some other things and I just looked, I think, like all other eleven year olds.
Finding some large leaves and small vines I tied some makeshift clothes out of them, two larger leaves tied at the top at the sides for a top and two other leaves tied at both sides and then slipped that on like a skirt once on I tied the part in between my legs so they were like shorts they looked good for what you could make out of leaves I think.
Once they were made and I put them on it started to walk back to the main path which I started on before I heard the river hoping to be seen by someone to get some clothes. Walking now for about ten minutes I made it to the road, it was starting to become dark now the sun setting behind me.
Walking away from the town which I was held captive in I hoped someone would be coming down from there who could pick me up, but this hope started to dwindle away as the sun disappeared into the distance and the moon was shinning high in the sky and still no sound other than the all so familiar river trickling quietly in the background.
Walking all night and still no sound form anything that could help me the sun not is starting to peak up from the ground shinning bright orange and yellow rays in all directions, shadows flashing all around me as I walked.
Just when the sun was about to all be seen footsteps awakened me from the peace of the running water, by the amount of them there were more than one person or animal coming up behind me and approaching fast, louder and louder.
Turning around four men in matching outfits the two on the outside walking dogs started to run fast in a b-line to me, I panicked, started to run away from them as fast as these human legs could take me but not being used to this body that didn’t take me very far before and large hand gabbed my shoulder turning me around.
Looking down at my clothes the four men didn’t say anything just looked, starting to back away one with ginger hair started to speak “Hey you don’t need to run from us all we want to do is help, see we are police men we don’t want to hurt you there is nothing to be afraid of.”
Not listening to him I carried on to back away from them when a dog ran up to me and jumped up then started to lick my face, it tickled so I let out a small giggle scratching its head and back as one police officer with blond hair tried to restrain it.
This didn’t work very well although it got of me it wouldn’t stop trying to stay with me so I crouched down and carried on stroking it the man with the blond hair spoke “Sorry about Leo here it seems he likes you” whilst crouching down onto my level carrying on he said “so are you going to tell us your name and why you are out here on your own wearing leaves?” The first thing I thought was blunt.
I didn’t speak just shrugged my shoulders the ginger one spoke again “Well would you like to come with us back to the station it’s not very safe out here there is a killer on the loose and we wouldn’t be wanting you getting hurt no would we?” I’m sorry by who in their right mind would tell a little girl that there was a murderer out looking for their next victim especially a police man I mean how stupid right?
Summoning my voice I let out a small “okay” which sounded more like a squeal but they seemed to register that I said something, a man with mousey blond hair holding the other dog spoke this time well it was more like shouting “She speaks!”
With this I got up from the ground and followed them going in the same direction that I was travailing in earlier, I didn’t really trust them how could I, only just meeting someone after the situation that I have been in you might think that someone might have trust issues.
About five minutes down the road and all of the men including one with dark brown nearly black hair tried to get me to talk about my I was out in the forest and most of all my name but I couldn’t tell them anything they wouldn’t believe me if I did and I was never given a name so how could that help.
Soon after all of these questions I think they gave up and just started to make me laugh doing silly things to each other like pushing each other into a bush which I happily joined in pushing the ginger in to a bush face first without a sound and no facial expression just carrying on walking which made everyone burst into laughter and scored me high fives of everyone but the ginger who just pouted shocked that I could even move him saying he was a grown man probably in his thirty’s.
After a while of doing this we were nowhere nearer to getting of this road in the middle of the forest and the wind started to pick up sending a shiver down my back, without a word out of all of them the one with the darkest hair took of his jacket and put it around my shoulder’s than after a little bit saying “I don’t know why any of us didn’t do that in the first place” earning a smile of me, whilst we carried on walking into the shadows of the trees in comfortable silence.
