HISTORY
The original legions were formed by God-Empress Mara to unify humanity. The first ever use was to conquer the various warlords on the Throneworld-to-be. Then the legions marched out to conquer with a Primarch commanding each. Every Ultra Marine undergoes heavy augmentations through both cybernetics and genetics. Those original Ultra Marine were clones grown in pods, but from the Third Generation of Legions and onward they were all recruited as children. Besides training and augmentation, children are heavily indoctrinated. Besides their size and superhuman senses and strength, they are immortal when it came to aging, like the Primarchs that originally led them. They are therefore seen as demigods by the Galactic Imperium's people.
After the civil war known as the Great Suffering the Primarchs slowly agreed to forbid the legions from continuing their growth and new generations of Marines would be capped out at 1,000 per force. These new generations were called Chapters. The genes the god-empress used to grow those original legions were used to grow the clones of the second generation (minus those legions lost in the Great Suffering. Their genes were discarded). Before that the original eighteen legions all numbers in 100,000 at the dawn of God-Empress Mara’s Grand Crusade to unify the shattered territories of humanity and species subjugated by the old empire.
It took ten years to fully grown a clone and in the Third Generation, it was discovered that it took an equal amount of time to train and augment a regular human into becoming a demigod legionnaire. The cloning practice was abandoned all chapters eventually picked humans to turn into demigods. The cloning facilities in the Imperial Palace was kept maintained and intact. The facilities on Menatulis was deconstructed, as would those of Easgorum and Ultima Sevestium. Those of Commenor was kept and maintained by the Imperial Fist (one of the original legions), with the permission of the line of emperors and empresses that followed God-Empress Mara.
Ultra Marines are brothers and sisters and members of the same Chapter was extremely close. To outsiders, regular mortals, they often appeared cold and heartless. How long can you live before regular people that passes you by stops mattering?
BLOOD WORLDS
The ability to declare a Blood World is often the headache of administrators and governors and even high ranking military officer. A Blood World is, simply put, a homeworld of the c Chapter in question, a world under their full control. A Blood World has a great deal of autonomy, as examples they do not have a governor and does not pay taxes to the government and anyone desiring to do business there has to go through the Marine Chapter that owns it. while these planets themselves at worst respect or at best worship the Ultra Marine, the troubles comes from outside their system. If High Command wishes to build supply or other station there, or station troops and ships, they have to submit an official request to the Chapter. Troops and ships placed in a Blood World’s space will be partially under the Chapter’s control, meaning that they might countermand previous orders. Though it should be said that High Command can withdraw troops whenever they like, so most Chapters don’t misuse additional defenders.
AUGMENTATIONS
Before receiving the augmentations a legionnaire go through psychological and physiological trials to mentally and physically prepare them and give them a good chance to survive the worst parts of the process of augmentation.
Age 10-14
They are selected as children and sent to official schools for Ultra Marine. Chapters with a Blood World pick children from the planet to train. They are trained and tested physically and psychologically throughout the ten-year training, but they are educated in various other subjects, like mathematics, history and much more. The education programs red thread is to indoctrinate them to the right way of thinking.
