"I will do your bidding, my lord," the knight obediently answered.

"Good, good," the king sneered, "Do as your king wishes, and the kingdom will prosper. I take it you have a plan devised to rid our kingdom of that wretched witch?"

"Yes, my lord. I have a ring to deflect her spells and a sword to penetrate her wards. She will die very soon, my lord, if you command me."

"Very good! You have wit, you know that?"

"Thank you, my lord."

"Of course. Now, go and take care of the witch."

"Yes, my lord."

The knight errant took his leave out of the massive castle gates, looking the direction of the witch's lair. His journey through the kingdom found himself at exactly the right place.

"Witch!" he exclaimed, "I have come for the bounty. Face me now!" A figure crept out of the shadows, slithering until light hailed her face. This witch was no ordinary witch; nay, an ordinary witch would be ugly and putrid. This particular witch was as beautiful as the Elves of the forest and stronger than the Archmage.

"Why, knight," she purred, "Don't you know the child is sleeping? Don't wake her."

"I am here for your head, witch."

"So, a fight? I never tire of those. I never expected a real knight to challenge me, though. I will make sure to use your blood for a nice potion."

"Enough speak, monster. We fight." He readied his sword.

"Hah! Your death awaits you, then!" The witch flew into the sky on her broom, and immediately cast several spells towards the knight errant.

The knight dodged a fireball, rolled under a wave of lightning just after, and finally slashed through a flying block of ice. The witch threw a despicable potion at him, causing him to jump in another direction, to which she used the opportunity to fling a poisonous snake to the knight. Just before it landed its fangs into his neck, he turned around and slashed his sword through the snake's body, effectively killing it. Rapidly, the witch threw another potion at the knight, whilst casting a fireball and lightning bolt towards his way. He caught the potion, using its glass as a shield against the fire, then flung the liquid toward the witch. She was surprised, and didn't make it in time. The potion did not affect her, but the lightning traveling through it did! The witch's magic suddenly stopped, and her broom failed to float, causing her to fall to the ground.

The knight ran over to the witch, who was now rising herself, trying her best to concentrate her magic. A sword caught her gut, a scream filling the air. Waves of magic left the witch and what remained was a powerless skeleton. Her spirit faded away, muttering to the air. The knight picked up a ring from the skeleton's finger.

"You have been cleansed from this great land," the knight errant exclaimed, "My destiny is done. The land is truly beautiful now, the power you stole from it returned. Rest in peace."

"The... child," the air whispered.

"Yes, the child..." The knight made his way to the witch's lair.

The air was still very much magical in the lair, its decorated walls and polished floor glowing a greenish-purple. Through the maze of hallways, the knight found himself standing before a child in a small bedding. She stirred awake, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"Father?" she sleepily asked, "Where is mother?"

"She has served the kingdom, young one," the knight responded, "Come, we will start a new life in the city, just as your mother always wanted."
