Behind Conductor, coming down some steps, was a man in a dark outfit that had a grin on his face like a devil. He lifted and held out a hand with his palm aimed towards Conductor’s back. Not even a second later in front of his opened extremity there formed a magic circle which began to swirl with energy, indicating a spell was being charged and it began to gather in front of the center of the circle. Assistant was leaned forwards with knees bent as he slid to a stop whiling managing to keep standing. The pounding in his ears, he quickly realized, was of his own heartbeat as his vision started to blur while he lifted his head and tried to focus on Conductor’s nearing form. He coughed hard after a sharp inhale then collapsed to his knees. His vision began to waver as his body wobbled with the streams of smoke from the spell rising off his form. “Assistant!” he heard Conductor scream with a cracking voice as he got closer. He tried to move his lips to answer but no voice came as he barely felt his body touch the ground as it finished collapsing the rest of the way, his limp form lying on its side against the hard ground. “But…” he took a heated breath, “there’s one thing,” a magic circle formed under one foot before quickly disappearing into him, “that you…” another magic circle formed under his other foot and quickly vanished into him, “and no one else can dare do.” He hissed with this pattern under his steps repeating, causing his magic strengthen from layering the spells on top of the other. He lowered his head more with breath shaking through his teeth gritted teeth. “No one,” his steps began to pick up more, “touches,” his body quickly entered a run as his head snapped up to show his rage filled eyes were brightly glowing. He punched the man hard in the face then repeated this for his assault. The man blocked some of the blows and his grin had faded into a very agitated frown as he stepped back from Conductor’s onslaught. The leader tried to use his magic to counter but screamed as a blinding light engulfed them both before it expanded out like an explosion. The beams supporting the building gave way and the rest of what was left standing began caving in. Followers of the darkness cried out as they ran to try and escape but some were crushed under the falling material. The slim body flying through the air grunted from the rough impact with the ground, his white trench coat tattered around the edges as it partially wrapped around him during his short roll. Minutes ticked by as the area was quiet with its disaster scene looking as if a mighty earthquake had struck and took down a symbol of fear and dominance. Not even a bird dared to chirp nor did the wind dare to blow. This deafening silence was interrupted by a few small stones trickled down with tiny clicks along with specks of dirt. Softly he moaned and touched his throbbing head as his ears were ringing from the lack of sound. Slowly his blue orbs opened to take in the scenery around him, not taking notice of his roughed up appearance or the dirt nestled in his hair as well as on his clothing. The teen looked around through strains of messy black hair at the remainder of the building with a dazed expression. Quickly and a bit clumsily he scrambled to his feet and climbed out of the hole he’d been in. Desperately with eyes dreading the worse he looked around the sea of rubble as his body had begun shaking with every breath. He felt tears trying to slip free to blur his vision when after some moments of scanning he could see no sign of the young Engine Master. Where is he? He waited for a brief moment of two heavy breaths before trying again after lifting his hands to cup them along either side of his mouth. “Answer me, this isn’t funny!” the boy shouted this demand with all of his might. His voice died off with the echo’s fading into the distance and as he dropped his hands to his sides with this renewed air of silence, his heart began to sink with his gut starting to feel twisted with a sense of dread. “…no…” he whispered under an uneasy exhale as his head began to tilt downwards. He fought to ignore the growing pain in his chest that felt like he had been or was repeatedly being stabbed, or as if someone had grabbed his heart and was squeeze it. You can’t be gone. Assistant thought in defiance as he continued to push aside debris in his hunt for the teen in white. He wiped some sweat from his brow as he took a deep breath, grunting while getting a piece of stone to roll out of the way. It felt like minutes trickled by as he wiped away more sweat after getting a piece of metal pushed aside. Quickly Assistant closed his eyes tight and shook his head with tears finding freedom to fall down his dirty cheeks. “No! After moving two more pieces of wreckage he noticed a flapping noise hitting his ears soon after the wind seemed to return. He scanned the area until his eyes caught the sight of fabric flapping in the breeze towards where one of the walls had once been. Just hold on. When he finally uncovered a motionless body in white he got down and pulled aside a few pieces of debris that was sticking out. When the pathway was clear and he felt sure nothing would shift to fall in, he took hold of his friends hand and arm firmly before starting to pull. He struggled to pull the teen to full safety but after getting him half way, taking a breather, and pulling him the rest of the way by slipping his arms under and around Conductor’s shoulders. Assistant fell back on his butt out of breath after he managed to pull a disheveled and beaten up Conductor out of what could have become his tomb. Shifting he hissed in pain from the hard landing and turned his attention to his boss who had remained motionless in front of him. The white trench coat was torn in many places with a small hole here and there as well. The rest of his messy form from head to toe was covered by dirt and dust. When Conductor didn’t respond he pulled his boss close and lifted him so his upper body was on his lap, wrapping his arms around Conductor as he rested the teens head with messy brown hair near his shoulder. “Please….don’t leave me.” The boy in blue whispered with hope the boy in white would wake up. “You survived so many other times from dangerous battles. “Conductor!” a female voice called out a minute or two later in the distance as she neared. “Assistant!” Peridot called out, “whoa!” she exclaimed under her breath as she nearly fell when some debris slipped out from under her foot as she got on top of the rubble. She picked up the pace only to slow down as she got closer and saw the boy in blue holding Conductor. Her ears slowly lowered sadly as she was having trouble picking up on Conductor’s life energy. Gently her tail wrapped around her so her paw-like hands could grip it as she lowered her black hooded head. “No….” she whispered as her eyes closed for a moment. The moments trickled by into minutes of somber silence before Peridot’s ears twitched a little and her eyes slowly started to open. Huh? Conductor had placed a hand over Assistant’s mouth to quiet the rant while watching the irritated teen calmly. “Take a breath and calm down.” He instructed gently with a slightly amused tone to Assistant snorting and briefly returned glare.
