Long before the Earth was created, there existed a being. A being with exponential power. A being named Cosmos. A wise and just creator of seventy-two gods. Cosmos split his characteristics into each god. Each god was given a specific duty. A duty to uphold the universe. Cosmos’ first in command, Azarieth, the god of wisdom ruled over the other gods. Azarieth created Earth and its formations. The gods were spiritual and had great power, but like humans, they had choices. Terror sprang over the Earth as the gods feuded without end. About half the gods, including Azarieth, decided to create intelligent beings to care for Earth. Half of the other gods disagreed. These gods disagreed and proclaimed that the Earth would be destroyed by beings inhabiting it. They insisted that the world would prosper without inhabitants. When they realized there wasn’t a choice with Azarieth, the most powerful god, on the other team, they started commanding sacrifices to be delivered by humans. Human sacrifices. These gods and all the unearthly beings they created were called Sacrificers. Headed by the god of destruction, named Ophthalmos. Ophthalmos had an idea that was overruled by Azarieth, but Ophthalmos went behind Azarieth and created ten beasts with immense power. He created these beasts without emotions and a pure and just heart so they would rule over Earth's inhabitants Ophthalmos foresaw humans evilness and stubbornness and started killing them off one by one. Azarieth saw that his father's plan was not working and created an ancient law of good and evil. Azarieth saw that the Sacrificers were not following the law and created terrifying beings called Afflictors. If a god fell away from the law, the Afflictor captured his soul and seized him until his mind was no longer stable. The corrupted minds were stripped of their power and sent to the Earth to forever suffer in pain of the Afflictors grasp. Hatred filled the souls of the remaining Sacrificers. A meeting was held between the Sacrificers and they decided to combine their power. They secretly corrupted the ten beings created to defend Earth’s inhabitants and created monstrosities. Ten highly intelligent, highly motivated, killing machines. Unique and incredibly powerful beings were created. The Sacrificers poured their bloodlust, greed, hatred, and desire into each of these ten assassins. Each of these cursed beings would be forced to experience no emotions for the gods saw no use in them. They simply got in the way of the mission. These beings were called The Ten Theodestrians, or the Decathodes. Highly feared among the gods. These beings were frowned upon by society and cast out. A Theodestrian is neither dead, nor alive, and cannot be killed. A war broke out between Azarieth’s gods and the Theodestrians. A valiant war was fought, but to no avail, Azarieth could not withstand the combined power of thirty gods. Azarieth in one last stand cursed the Theodestrians and made them lose their memory. Theodestrians were cursed to wander the Earth. Azarieth sent them to Earth to be shamefully hidden in society. Theodestrians eventually were forgotten and were considered to only be a myth among the gods. Azarieth condemned all of the Sacrificers and forced them to live their days in the hands of Afflictors and banished them to the Earth. A peace was brought over the land for several millennia. Prosperity flooded the Godheads and the race of gods was increased by the millions. The gods bred with humans and created demigods. Beings, considered nobility on Earth and the head of the human caste system. The original thirty keeping their status as reigning powers and sending their demi-god heirs to Earth for demi-gods had human characteristics and had the same emotions as humans making them dangerous. A meeting was held for the whisper of an old fear that had resurfaced. “Azarieth, you are our trusted leader and friend of us all. Please, I beg you, do not make the same mistake again! We must banish the Decathodes into the abyss before the bloodlust returns and all of our hard work suffers their wrath! These vile creatures are nothing but evil! They are corrupt beyond control! Surely you see this!” Azarieth raised his eyebrows at Thymos’ strong opinion and looked at Resno.
Resno, usually quiet, noticed his old friend's gesture and chipped in. “We cannot be sure that the bloodlust will not return and until then we must be careful.”
Azarieth stood up and walked around the room. “I have a proposition that you are not going to like.” The gathering all quieted down and listened. “I am going to force an afflictor to keep watch upon each of the Theodestrians, to make sure that the bloodlust does not arise.” Silence like no other fell upon the congregation. Thymos looked at Azarieth furiously and proceeded to storm out of the corridor, but before he left the room, he turned back around and pointed at Azarieth.
“If the Decathodes resurface, don’t say someone didn’t warn you. The blood of millions is on your hands.” Thymos turned and quickly walked out and slammed the large oak doors behind him.
Azarieth looked at Resno, “Resno, tell the Afflictors to do as I say.” Resno stood for a moment, but eventually bowed and left the room. Azarieth looked out of the large window and down on Earth. “What am I to do with them.”
