Zenovia was heading off to home with the rascal sleeping on the passenger seat.
He wasn't really sleeping but was avoiding looking at her. Behind his closed eyes replayed the scene of that afternoon when she came closer to him, unsure he stayed still as he felt her soft cushioned lips on his rough forehead. It triggered something inside him. His emotions were trying to surface but he was trained to hide them without any hitch, but she wasn't, her shyness reflected in her eyes. The contentment displayed on her cheeks made him restless.
He sighed. The restlessness was gone now. The workout he did today helped him suppress all the stress she triggered since she made her move.
Until he is undercover he must avoid distractions.
Zenovia parked the car, he unlocked the doors and soon they were inside.
She was following her normal routine since there were no pending projects left. Only research papers to complete and lectures to prepare, but these were concerning Nephrology department and med school, it wasn't urgent.
While cooking dinner. Her mind wondered of to the environment she noticed at the healthcare and rehabilitation center when she decide to rather go inside and fetch him herself than give a call.
It was some intense empty place for a patient. The parking lot was empty too. The entrance was greeted with chilly cold breeze. The few people that were there were unusually built. Did they even qualify as patients? It was odd. Was this the cheap place he went till now? But he showed improvement in a drastic speed, no doubt in that. Who was assessing him? How did she miss this information. She almost forgot to keep tabs on him.
He was still in his bath robe as he plopped onto the couch and switched on the TV while ruffling his wet hairs away from his line of site.
"How's your hand clumsy?" She asked from kitchen and he gave her a thumbs up while his eyes fixed on the screen.
"And any chest pains?" Now she was behind him leaning on the headrest of the sofa. He gulped but gave a big nod.
"Hmm." She nodded to herself considering his positive responses. Her phone rang. "Its doctor Christian Woodward." She said for him to hear. He turned up the TV's volume.
"Hello. This is Dr. Marcell." She went in other room closing the door behind her so he had stick to the wall to eavesdrop but went back to watching news when he couldn't here anything.
After a few minutes she came out with his medical report in one hand and sat beside him. He had to know. She didn't know how bring it up so after figiting for a while she tapped lightly on his shoulder, he switched off the tv, she had his full attention now. He had been observing her for a while. He wasn't known for wasting time but now he have so much on him he might as well sit in the toilet.
He exhaled audibly.
"Dr. Woodward had a heart attack. Two days back and is currently in Emergency Unit." She was sad. And that was visible in her expressions. She had her doubts on the day he paid a visit. He was sweating so much but she didn't thought it would turn out this way.
'Oh, That's sad.' that's what he sent me but there was not a trace of remorse on his face. She still searched his eyes but his wall in front of eyes didn't wavered. Like guarding his soul those walls were, he never let them down Always on guard.
He was as good as dead.
Even though his walls were up she could read him well enough to demolish his emotional armour.
"I know you have been through a lot and you're still not over it. But by brewing poison in your heart and putting up a robotic appearance won't help you overcome it."
He wanted to shout out loud that it wasn't over yet. He will get over it once his mission was completed but he had to suppress his anger. She wrapped her hands around his. The warmth he felt felt from her was addicting, maybe because he never felt it before her. He couldn't avoid her any longer. Before he knew it his anger had already vanished.
This is what her touch could do. Hours of workout could do what her warmth can for a few moments.
He laughed at himself. Running his hand down his face in disbelief. "What's wrong?" She asked but he shook his head.
She knew he had been through a rough phase of life and hence needed comfort, if she couldn't even do that it would be rude as a fellow human being and it would be a shame for a Doctor. Her heart won't forgive her for either of that.
"I'd appreciate it if you don't tell me but feel it inside." She kept her pointer finger on his left side of the chest."rather than feed me words worth empty shells." Her pointer finger curled into a fist and she removed her hand as she smiled with an emotion he was yet to figure out.
This whole time he had been staring at her so mesmerized by her charisma she emits. His features softened, she knew he melted and she also knew it won't be for long, He will be cured little by little.
His dark green eyes had seen through her deep black orbs reflecting pain and sadness. A storm of calamity locked deep inside her core. She was shuffling through pages but his eyes were fixated on her, she had grown use to that.
She was one dense woman for sure.
'Dinner?' "yes" they walked to the kitchen, had dinner in silence but zenovia was troubled and he saw that. She most likely wanted to discuss his condition and interrogate him about it in detail but it seemed like time wasn't in favour.
