"Trick or treat!" Giggled many children as they assembled from door to door in their costumes. Presenting to be scary in their image as well as adults. A festivity of nonsense to me. I'm watching them from afar on a roof, avoiding them.
Halloween is associated with death, and indeed death is a part of life, but I perceive it differently. My life is accompanied by death, and all those many years, it still now follows me closely, like a shadow.264Please respect copyright.PENANA2mZOkib0LR
Some people out there think they are dressed like me, the long white shirt with a red and black cape and quote phrases I never uttered. 'Children of the Night-' and others that are known from various movies.264Please respect copyright.PENANAi65Q59uO42
That image started as an Irish author called Bram Stoker published his famous gothic novel. Foolish scribbles from where I stand with a combination of a classic tale where the good defeats the evil; fiction. In reality, it would be the other way around. The guilty, the evil and cruel, get away with it.
Suddenly a group of children shrieked and laughed as an adult chased them away from their porch in a ghost-like costume. I scoffed at the sight. I inflicted fear upon my people and enemies with torcher methods, especially impaling. I learned at a young age what fear is; a powerful emotion that can never be fully controlled and revenge is a strong motivation. I vowed to avenge my enemies for what they have done to my family, my people and me.264Please respect copyright.PENANAEroxnO4swh
Like fear, so is revenge an emotion, and it can make one blind. I was tempted and fell foolishly for the demon's offer. It cost not my soul but my blood and the lives of those close to me. At first, I didn't realise what I have become until it was too late and was held captive by my enemies, or so it says in the ancient documents, they did hold me captive but didn't live to tell the tale. The Pope ordered monks to write in their honour a different and heroic version of their death and presenting me as a black sheep or rather a human with bloodlust. Such vivid imagination and the monks know how to make a page-turner.264Please respect copyright.PENANA6yOKrzvgYi
Suddenly a woman's cry cut my train of thoughts. I paced over a few roofs to the source of the cry. I heard two hearts beating, one wildly with fear and running and the other paces with a steady pulse. I picked up a deep snigger of a man's and scented blood nearby. So this is serious, I smiled excited and leapt down from the roof onto the street.
The woman sprinted up to me, nearly out of breath. "Please! Help me!" She panted. "Call the police! I'm being followed! There's a man with a real knife after me!" She had a small cut on her arm, emitting a unique scent I know too well.
I smirked at her and looked down the street. The man with a knife at hand hid it behind his back and slowed his pace. With lightning speed, I raced up to him and thrusted him hard against the nearest wall. The man cried in agony as he hit his back against the wall and dropped the knife.
"I want him alive, Vlad." Stepped in the woman calmly. I know perfectly who she is since she screamed. "Hello, Lily. Is this your way of celebrating Halloween? Catching killers undercover?" I chuckled.264Please respect copyright.PENANA1c4L6P4dsD
Lily Clearwater is a police officer and knows the existence of magic and the supernatural. "Not really, just doing some masquerade like the others." She grinned and pulled out of her pocket hand-cuffs.264Please respect copyright.PENANAFELiu3VWRv
"One thing I don't understand is why letting him live?" I turned to the man and revealed my fangs in a broad smile. He gasped and began to tremble. "He can't be a serial killer, he's is too soft. Look! He's afraid of me just by smiling." I turned to Lily. "I've seen tougher killers; he may merely be a man and at least an aperitif." She frowned to my notation.
"Oh, God!" Whispered the man in dread. I faced him. "Consider yourself lucky tonight and remember, there is no such thing as vampires." I hissed and threw him down in front of Lily's feet. "He's all yours."
"You always have a way with people, Vlad." Grinned Lily as she cuffed the man and brought him to his feet.
"Social isn't my middle name. I would appreciate if you brought in a case where killing is accepted onto the culprit."
"That wish will be in vain as long as I am around, Vlad."
I laughed at her notation and walked away. "That may be, dear Lily. Send my regards to Jeffray." I came to know Lily through a dark circumstance and having the same enemy. She was once possessed by a powerful demon, the same one who betrayed me into what I am today. By some miracle and strong will, she managed to fight the demon out and retraced her missing memories back to me. I helped her and taught her how to handle dark magic and the supernatural. From there, she found a new purpose along with a job as a police officer. Her strength and courage as a mortal never cease to amaze me. Usually, mortals are annoying as flies, but she is an exception due to her history and the mutual understanding she and I have, except the killing part. Jeffray is her close friend who knows of magic too but for a different part such as faeries, trolls and the elves or what he calls them as 'elvanshee'. He's brave, and a true friend but I enjoy too much-inflicting fear upon him. He will always fear me only because of what I am, maybe also of who I am.264Please respect copyright.PENANAh3isGacCwy
Be warned when you tread through the night on the streets of London; it could be the last thing you'll ever do.
