Enjoying the feeling of the sun peeking through the trees onto my skin while resting in the courtyard. Eyes closed listening to sweet music on my muggle music device. Avoiding friends. Avoiding the treacherous thoughts Snape planted in my mind the night before preventing me from sleep. Suddenly, the sun had disappeared and my headphone was plucked out of my ear. I reluctantly opened my eyes to see a grinning Pansy Parkinson. "Leave me alone" I groaned snatching my headphone back and closed my eyes again only to have her yank the device from my hand and painfully ripping the headphones out of my ears in the process.
"A muggle device. Wait until Umbridge sees this!" She exclaimed joyfully tossing it to a tall attractive Slytherin boy.
I got up as quickly as I could brushing the grass off my clothes.
"She will be so pleased with us. Do you think we will receive a prize?" He teased while examining it.
"Why don't you give it a rest." I tried grabbing the device from him. He only lifted it higher.
"Be careful Hufflepuff, what if it explodes." He taunted.
"GET DOWN" Pansy mocked in an extra high pitched voice, feigning fear.
I huffed. My options swirled around in my head. How can I get out of this situation?
"What the hell is going on here?" demanded an infuriated Draco Malfoy marching toward us.
"Only, our inquisitorial squad duties Malfoy," Blaise smirked.
He snatched my device out of Blaise's hands, placing it into his pocket.
He then got in Pansy's face "Didn't I say one more time and you'd be dead to me. How fucking dare you."
"Draco please, you don't understand." She begged.
"Get fuck out of here, now." He spat. Tears welled in her eyes. "You too Zabini."
"Blood Traitor." Blaise snapped putting his arm around Pansy, leading them away.
Draco only lifted an eyebrow at the comment and proceeded towards me. I stood there bewildered.
"Here." He grabbed my hand and placed my device into it. Then just walked away. With no explanation.
Today in Divination, we were reading tea leaves also known as Tasseography. I felt awkward after the harsh encounter I witnessed between Draco and his friends the day before. We finished our teas silently and switched cups to evaluate. We flipped through the book trying to find matching symbols.
I broke the silence not looking up from the cup. "Why did you help me, yesterday," I whispered.
Silence.
I looked at him. "Draco."
He looked back at me and shrugged. "I take attempted murder seriously. Even if it is a Hufflepuff."
I scoffed then half-smiled. "Does Pansy try to assassinate people often?"
He chuckled. "No, you stir a different type of hatred in her."
"It was kind of intense yesterday. Are you still friends?"
"No." He frowned.
"I'm sorry. Do you regret it?"
Confusion spread across his face. "No."
"Well, thanks."
He nodded.
More Silence.
"This class is ridiculous, I can't see anything.'' ranted Draco changing the subject.
"Perhaps you just don't have the gift" I stated flatly.
As if she had heard his complaint, Professor Trelawney sauntered over to us.
"What did you find, Let me see," she said. I handed her Draco's cup "Ah Draco. I see a momentous love in your near future. Look, Right here" She pointed to a black spot on the cup. He looked and nodded. "As you can see this love will bring you immense happiness." she giggled excitedly. "Oh but wait this happiness is intertwined with great despair, unavoidable." She looked off into the distance, dramatically.
I watched Draco trying to read his expression but I couldn't.
"Now Larsa's cup." He handed her mine. "Let's see, Ah. Oh dear, I cannot believe it." She paused. "I have never seen this. Only heard of it. Never seen it in all my years."
I waited anxiously.
"You two share the same fate."
She held up both of the cups, side by side.
"Yes my dears, exactly the same."
Divination quickly became my favorite class. It was the least demanding and therefore a fine way to start the morning. Although, if I'm being completely truthful, It's mainly because I got to enjoy Draco's company for an hour and a half. After class, he would walk me to my next one. If I had known it would be the last time I might have picked a more meaningful topic of conversation. I had asked him his favorite color.
"It's green right, it has to be." I insisted.
"Actually", he stepped closer to me "It used to be green but now it's yellow."
"Hm," I felt my face get warm.
"What's yours? Let me guess, Red, white, and blue?" He challenged.
"Oh jeez. No" I rolled my eyes. ''Lilac Purple"
"Oh. What about your house color?"
"I don't really like yellow but I do like forest green"
He smiled.
Little did we know that in Professor Trewlaney's next period Umbridge declared her useless and fired her from her position as a professor. She even tried to remove her from school grounds but Dumbledore stepped in.
