Where have you went?

Why aren't you home?

Why aren't you laying beside me in our bed,

A mattress that is now empty and frozen?

I miss your touch,

Your eternal loving caress,

The way you had me in the palm of your hand,

You made me melt long before the wrinkles, lover boy.

The telephone has not rung,

Nobody is standing at the door,

Where you should be.

The police came today,

Told me you had muscle failure and stopped breathing on the way to the hospital.

I told them that they were taking me for a senile, old fool, that you'd be home soon,

Rolling up our driveway with a cheesy bouquet of black roses,

Smiling ear to ear, proclaiming that you had not forgotten about our anniversary.

They left my doorstep in mock sympathy,

Leaving me to "grieve", or so they said.

You're just making a big to-do about our anniversary, aren't you, Beans?

Where are you, dear love?

Time no longer exists, it is a fabrication courtesy of my brain.

Or maybe my memory has been skewed.

You have been gone for so long,

Maybe I should go to you.

To love you.
