Chapter 5: Venom
I jumped into the air to avoid more of that gas. This teen moved like a ninja; he was very quick and very nimble.
“I don’t have time for any more games, kid.” I couldn’t see what was behind that mask, but due to his skills, his movement, and estimation of experience, I estimated his age to be about nineteen or twenty.
I unleashed two fireballs at the masked teen. He dodged them and dashed at me. His punch almost connected to my face but I swiped it away in time. I round-housed kicked him to the ground; however, the brat still managed to stand.
“You monsters haven’t seen all of my abilities.” The voice was now feminine.
“Fool, do you want to die?” Gladius bellowed at the teen. “You’re wasting our time –go buzz off somewhere or I’ll kill you myself.”
The masked teen shook his head. “Not until I kill you!” Out of nowhere, the kid unleashes a fury of pink gas balls. I didn’t plan on losing to a teenager. I fired toward the center of the gas cloud. It exploded. When the smoke cleared, the kid stood in a light-blue semi sphere.
“A barrier,” the redhead pointed out the obvious. “Lily, how did you do that?”
Okay, she used ninja objects –but magic? This kid wasn’t type to be underestimated, against a regular foe that is. Still, I was short on time and didn’t have any to waste.
“You’re such a pest, girl. You’ll make an excellent slave.”
“Hey, Lily; Finish him with that secret attack you boasted about the other day.”
I took a step toward the masked girl, just to intimidate her.
“I need you to back away,” she told the redhead.
“But Lily,” he said.
“Go!”
I yawned. Those cliché words that the heroic humans said annoyed and bored me at the same time. Adius said a mouthful of this phrase, each line ended with him telling his allies to ‘go.’
I fired another round of fireballs at the teen. I couldn’t believe it when she dodged everyone of them. The girl dashed at me, preparing to unleash another attack. Unfortunately, for her, two thoughts roared at the back of my mind. One, I’m not just some weakling who would get easily defeated by some human. Second, if I lost this fight, not only would I deserve to die, but also my reputation would fall in ruins.
Gaining seriousness, I sidestepped the girl’s roundhouse-kick and then knocked her to the ground using a single finger. I felt like she should be honored, no one, other than that idiot hero, has ever caused me to get serious during a battle.
I snatched the mask off the teen’s head and lifted her shirt collar. She had long golden brown hair with matching eyes. She was an exact twin of my victim from the modern era. But could this really be her? Maybe this explained why Adius was so protective of her, during our encounter.
“Nawm, hurry up,” Gladius said. “We need to get to Isle Town immediately.”
“Hurry up and kill me already,” the girl spat.
“Lily no!” the redhead shouted. He looked desperate to help her, but his cowardly instincts told him to beware of the unstoppable vampire and the dragon keeper equipped with an enormous dragon. What were the odds of a wimpy teen winning?
“Your skills will be quite useful as a slave.” Without hesitation, I plunged my fangs into her neck and then flexed my jaw muscle. This caused my teeth to emit a tiny drop of venom. The golden brown color of her eyes immediately changed into lime-green and then she fainted.
The redhead yelled out of rage and charged at me. I easily evaded his poor excuse for a punch and knocked him unconscious using the same finger. I decided to spare his life, so that he can whine to the hero. This will feed into my plans very smoothly.
“Pathetic,” I said as I lifted my new slave from the ground.
“Nawm, are you sure you want to bear the burden of that human girl?” Gladius asked as he boarded his dragon, Zodius.
“She’ll be of some use to me,” I said. “And since she’s now a half-vampire, under my control, I’ll have the hero on his knees begging for her return.”
“She’s an acquaintance of his?”
I smirked. “He’ll never hurt his lover. This makes him an easy kill.”
“I see.”
I placed the girl on the back of Zodius. He growled.
“Calm yourself,” Gladius told his pet. It obeyed.
“Try not to drop her, while in the air. We’ll never get an easier opportunity than this.”
Gladius sighed. “You plan to run?”446Please respect copyright.PENANAzQ6pivV4zQ
“No. I’ll fly right behind you.”
Zodius’ wings flapped up and down repeatedly. The winds that emitted from the motion bent the few trees that resided in these plains. Within seconds, Zodius lurched into the air. I locked onto his scent and then leapt. I flexed the muscles within my hands and imagined something exploding. I felt my body shrink and claws take the place of my fingernails. My vision lessened but my hearing became superior.
It took me a few seconds to fully morph into bat form. I always hated transforming; however, the benefit is that my clothes shrunk as well.
I wasn’t an average bat –I could actually see. My hearing was that of a hundred bats and my nose could even track an ant hundreds of miles away. The only disadvantage was that wielding my fireball was virtually impossible in this form.
I arched my wings and then gave them a thrust downward. I then gave them another thrust upward, picking up speed, and then followed the dragon’s scent. Oh, did I mention I could fly faster than a running cheetah? Bat form was an ability that full-blooded vampires had over half-breeds.
It didn’t take me long to catch up with Gladius. He looked like he took pride in riding his dragon, although I couldn’t be too sure since his face wasn’t visible.
“Took you long enough,” he said as I soared parallel to Zodius.
“It has been a while since I took on this form.” My voice, of course, remained the same.
“I see,” Gladius said.
Within minutes, Zodius descended. That cue meant that we finally arrived to Isle Town. When we landed, I morphed back into my normal form. My new slave, who slept through the entire trip, coughed a few times. Her eyes opened. Bingo, she was finally awake.
