Devin woke up to the coffee machine running amok.
" What the hell ?" She mumbled half awake.
" Wake up sunshine."
A cheery voice shouted from outside her room.
" Thea? What the hell are you doing here?"
Thea was Devin's best friend , she doesn't know about her dark secret and her dark life behind the scene.
" Made you breakfast."
Devin got up and stretched. Her phone was beeping.
" 2 missed calls shit."
Fortunately it wasn't work. One was from Thea who was in the next room and the other from her uncle.
He checked with her so often but he never truly cared for her.
When she got out of her room , pancakes were laid beautifully on the table, with fresh fruit and a fresh orange juice glass.
" I see , you still want me to go all healthy."
Thea turned , she twirled her long skirt and her brown hair bounced around.
" Yes, you need your health. Weak being like you."
Devin chuckled , if only she knew.
" Shouldn't you go to school?"
Thea looked at her watch.
" Shit."She grabbed her bag and sprinted to the door.
" I'll come check on you later."
She crushed the door behind her.
Devin sighed and ate everything her stupid friend left her with.
She tried to distance herself from her , because of her job ,Thea would easily be targeted. But instead of being pissed off she ran after her and is around Devin almost 24/7 , she knows she works all night and she doesn't bother her usually.
A knock came to the door.
" Dev, it's me."
" Come in Jakob."
He came in wearing a white shirt and black jeans. Jack came in behind him. Which was a rare scene to see.
" This is unusual." Devin said.
Jack chuckled and they both sat on the stool's around the table.
" Thea."Devin said as they boys looked at her breakfast, what's left of it.
They nodded , Jack pulled a folder from his bag.
" These are the mission's for tonight."
" How many people can we kill ? We are decreasing the population repeatedly." Devin had to chuckle.
" Well, the boss , is trying hard to check for the guy you are looking for."
Devin looked at the folder and opened it.
" Kevin, 34 rapped and killed his wife and daughters.
David, 56 , sexually harassed his mother.
John, 70 rapped 3 children."
Devin almost vomited her breakfast.
" Do you have any idea who he is or where he can possibly be?"
Jakob asked grabbing her hand.
She shook her head.
" I only remember fragments but if I hear his voice I will definitely remember him."
Jack smiled and got out a voice register.
" Good for you , I brought their voices."
Devin smiled. Jack was the association's tech guy.
" We are assassins , we need to know every nook and cranny there is." He said.
Jack started the recorder but she didn't recognize the voices.
The boys stayed for a while , but left to get started on their day. They attend school as well as the association , which always left her in awe. With their work they usually end up going home at 4 am , even later, so she always wondered how they actually have time for school.Jack once said that he needs to study in the morning so at work he is top notch and doesn't leave them without any new device. He is in tech major and Jakob is in criminology. Devin is sure they will make incredible crime investigators , they never should have ended up as assassins in the first place.That's why Devin always goes in and kill them herself , she doesn't want them with blood on their hands. They accepted her , they've grown together , this is the only thing she can do for them and she is more than willing. Devin lost her parents when she was little ,a man got inside their home and killed her father , then he rapped her mother and killed her slowly. Lastly he had fun with Devin, but left her alive. She wanted revenge , for her parents , she doesn't remember them much but deep down in her heart she knows this is the right way for her. That's when she meet the twins and they got her in the Association. AVM , assassins versus molesters. They took her in without second thoughts , they thought her , feed her , gave her money. She is in debt with them , after she finds the man she is looking for she decided to leave the association, but it will be hard for her. She is darkness and she doesn't want to suck the life of the twins anymore.
Jakob was about to leave so many times , he stayed because of her. He decided he would leave with her when the time is right , till then he would endure. That's when she knew he had a very special place in her life. She was scared at first , feelings are forbidden in their job,love is distracting and it can get you killed or even worse, it will make you go crazy. That's why they decided to not touch each other until they get out of there , but that failed miserably. The attraction between them was high , one day they happened to meet and it went all the way after that.
The day was flowing slowly , Devin cleaned and got her gear in check.Soon later when the clock struck 3 , the door went flying open.
" Devin Sinclair , we need to talk." Thea came in shutting the door behind her.
" Thea Duncan , and talking we shall."
Thea almost laughed but she kept straight.
" I got Intel that states that two hot , pantie dropping , guys came inside your house."
" Jessica, needs a life." Devin sighed.
" They are the twins." She continued.
Thea's hand flew to her mouth.
" You did twins ? Good heavens girl."
Devin looked at her with gaping eyes. Then she burst into a fit of laughter.
" Are they hot?" Thea said stomping her way to her.
Devin thought of the twins.
" Hot is a simple word for them. But I already told you about them , they work with me."
Thea thought for a moment and nodded.
" Yeah, I remember. So when can I meet them?"
" When I die."
Devin said, her face composed with seriousness.
Thea rolled her eyes and crashed on her sofa.
" Help me with this will ya ?"
Devin sat near her and check her books.
" Literature today?"
Thea nodded and pointed to the point where she needs help.
" Okay,if you get all of these questions right , I'll tell them to come."
Thea smiled in satisfaction and nodded.
Devine already knew how this is going.
And she was right
A soft knock came on the door. After she answered every question right, she ran for Devin's phone and demanded to see them now.
She texted them hoping they would refuse but to her misfortune they said they were already on the way to her apartment.
'Screw this , I'm running away'. Devin thought.
The boys came in with bags in their hands.
" Lunch."Jakob said smiling at Devin.
She sighed and grabbed the plates.
" Thea, these are Jakob and Jack." Devin said.
They chatted for awhile until Devin arranged the food into the plates and gave it to them , hoping they would shut up.
After they ate and chatted , Thea looked at Devin and grabbed her chin with her tiny fingers.
" Dev, you need to color your hair , it's fading."
Thea usually is who does Devin's hair.
She nodded and asked her when she had chance.
Thea ran to her bag and grabbed the paint from her purse.
Devin sighed , shaking her head at her weird but dependable friend.
Jakob kept looking at Devin, he smiled to her and kept his lips sealed to not say anything when she looked like crap with the paint in her hair.
Jack's phone rang and we all knew it would soon be time for work.
Thea had to leave , she told her to wash her hair in half an hour.
This gave them time to prepare for work.
After washing her hair , Devin dried it and pulled it in a high ponytail.
She grabbed a pair of black jeans , black heeled boots and a short shirt with a red leather jacket.
She applied her make up and grabbed her gear.
Jakob came into the room.
" Ready?"
" Almost."She responded.
Devin was running around the room. Then Jakob grabbed her from her shoulder to stop her.
" Calm down."
He grabbed her knife and placed it in her boots , the gun in her jeans.He didn't miss to touch her as he placed the gun in the jeans. When he touched her , Devin felt thrills running down her spine.
" I hate it when you wear like this." He said pulling her to him.
Jakob slid his hands around her middle.
" Didn't we say no touching?"
Jakob chuckled and grabbed a strand of hair that has fallen and pulled it behind her ear.
" It's too much for me to handle , seeing you everyday is not enough."
His lips touched her forehead , he ran his lips down her face and when he came to her lips he kissed her softly.
" We should go." He said.
Devin nodded.
He kissed her one last time and left the room.
Once Devin leave this room , she's an assassin. There is no place for mistakes.
She took a deep breath and grabbed her bag.
Little did she know that this was the night that would start it it all.
