"Hmm, that was interesting B," Veronica said.
"Thanks, V!" She exclaimed. "Who's next?"
"I think I'll go next," Jughead said.
Blood is the very essence of life. Everyone bleeds, every creeping thing bleeds, especially a ghoul. I saw one once. I was in an abandoned building searching for inspiration for my next story. You see, I had been working on my writing but I found myself to be in a bout of writer's block and decided to go on a hunt for something to jump out at me. I wanted something outside the realm of non-fiction for my next work so that I could really flex this ever-growing writing muscle of mine.
Do you know what color a ghoul's blood is?
I was surprised to find out that it was red, just like ours.
Anyway, I went inside the building with my flashlight at the ready and almost immediately, something caught my attention.
I crouched down as I crept deeper inside. As I kept going, I was overwhelmed by this... stench. It smelled of sulfur and rotting corpses, it got worse the closer I got to the source of the odor. Once I reached the epicenter, on the second floor, that's when I saw it. A creature so terrifying, you'd think it was only in movies.
Its complexion gave off a blue-tinted hue as the moonlight streamed in from the broken in ceiling. Its teeth were almost as long as its claws, its feet were covered in slime, and decaying flesh caked around its talons. I almost vomited at the sight but I held my composure. After all, this isn't the craziest thing I've seen in this town.
I whipped out my phone and snapped a few pictures for evidence. Unfortunately, I only got one as the flash and the sound was on. The creature heard it and blinked its large eyes at the sudden beam of light coming from my phone. It let out a hissing snarl that sounded like its mouth was full. Of what? I didn't even want to know.
I bolted. I wasn't going to fight that thing when all I had was a flashlight.
I sprinted down the stairs and was almost back on the first floor when the ghoul dropped right in front of me.
There was nowhere for me to go.
I was backed into a corner.
It rushed me and picked me up by my neck. My air supply was slowly but surely decreasing. It opened its bloody maw impossibly wide and I saw rows and rows of razor sharp teeth. The putrid odor of its breath alone almost took me out as its long, thick tongue slid up and down my cheek.
It seemed to grin at me, if that was even possible.
With the last bit of my strength, I took my flashlight and decked it on its bald head. That caught the creature off guard as its grip on my neck loosened. I saw an opportunity and I used it to my advantage. I kicked the ghoul in its chest and it tumbled down the stairs, knocking itself out.
Not willing to risk it waking up by going down the rest of the stairs, I turned to the window. It didn't look like it was a long way down either.
The creature began to stir as I opened the window. My eyes widened as it shook itself awake and I realized that it was now or never.
I jumped.
I landed on my shoulder and felt it dislocate. It hurt like hell but I wasn't out of the woods just yet. The ghoul snarled from the window and hopped out to follow me. It would seem that I would have to fight to the death.
From my position on the ground, I picked up my flashlight and pointed the beam of light directly into its eyes. They turned white.
It let out a frustrated hiss and turned its head a little.
The grotesque form of the ghoul was momentarily distracted, so I got up and ran directly for the creature.
After all, the best defense is offense.
A hand reached out and grabbed me by the neck again. The ghoul threw me a few feet away and I, of course, landed on my injured shoulder. That however, was a blessing in disguise. I grunted in pain as my shoulder shifted, it was now back in place.
The creature had just finished clearing its vision before it ran up on me.
I was ready for it this time. I waited for the right moment and sent the flashlight directly into the center of its eyes. It stumbled and tripped, falling to the ground.
I jogged over and removed the flashlight. I struck it again and again. By the time I was done, it was dead. I bludgeoned the creature to death. I looked at my weapon of choice and saw the bright red blood dripping from it. I looked back to the creature and watched as it disintegrated before my eyes. Its reign of terror was finally over.
"Woah, Jug. That was really something," Betty said.
Something about the story struck a chord deep within her.
As the others talked about his story, she took the time to study her boyfriend. She gasped slightly when she noticed his irises shifting from his normal blue-green to a murky pitch black.
He looked at her, smirking and the whites of his eyes continued to grow black in intensity. He was doing this on purpose, it seemed.
In response, she gave him a smirk of her own as her eyes shifted blood red. His eyes widened in surprised amusement. It appeared that the two would have much to talk about when this triple date was over.
