As Sia walked through the hallways, she was spooked. Not by the dozens of kids pushing her around, but by the many demons that plagued the place. One girl really stood out; she looked like any other student but… The eyes looked emotionless and empty. She didn't smile, talk to anyone, or even acknowledge people’s presence.
She walked near Sia and accidentally bumped her. The jolt of emotions that Sia sensed made her stop and grab her arm.
“Hey, are you okay?” Sia looked into the girl’s dark eyes, concerned.
Sia glanced around. She was at the battlefield again. The girl still stood in front of her as if in a trance. Slowly, something leaked out of her; separating into three globs. All of them roared.
“Spirit of Rejection…“ Sia nodded. She heard of it before but never saw it with her own eyes. Time to fight.
Sia motioned to the girl who was as silent as ever. They walked down the hall together, away from prying eyes. “Do you want me to pray for you?”
The girl nodded. Sia took a breath.
“I pray for this girl that she may not be harmed by anything in the name of the King!”
The demons roared again and swung at Sia. She rolled and dodged their blows. The monsters were getting irritated.
“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other that you may be healed.”
Sia placed a hand on the girl’s shoulder. The sudden act of kindness towards her softened her up. “I've seen you in the hall. I know something is up. Can you tell me?” The poor girl could not have been older than a seventh grader.
Tears welled up in the girl’s eyes. “I’m so lonely. I have very few friends and they want to hang out with others instead of me.”
Sia ducked a monster glob. They just kept throwing them out of nowhere. She heard the girl’s voice.
“I… I have been planning to run away. My family fights all the time and everyone seems to hate me. My own mother tells me how worthless I am.”
This confession made the demons shrink back somehow. They did not like her giving in. Sia called up the Sword of the Spirit and slashed the creatures. They grew defensive. She walked over to the girl who was still standing frozen in time and tapped her.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young.”
The girl’s body grew transparent. Sia looked at her chest, astonished to see a small flame there. It was struggling to stay bright.
She looked at the girl who had tears sliding down her cheek. “I went through something like that. The King helped me.”
“The King?”
“Yep. He helped me and, in return, I’m free.”
The girl looked hopeful. “But, what is the catch?”
“What is your name?” Sia started praying that her fire would go brighter.
“Christine.” The transparent girl spoke. Sia could see her fire growing brighter already.
She slashed at the demons some more, holding them at bay. “Christine, would you be willing and open about what’s gonna happen next?”
“Yes? What is that exactly?” Christine sounded confused.
“Do you want to be healed? No more of this pain?”
“Yes!”
Sia stared into her eyes once more. They were brighter and more human now. “I must warn you, this will be a hard path. There will be trials and tribulations but the King will give you more joy than ever, if you just let Him.”
Christine sighed. “I’m ready. If this King can give me back joy, I will allow Him.”
Sia smiled at the demons who now realized that they lost. “You heard her. Get out in the Name of the King! Now!”
The creatures shrunk back and cowered, still screaming. They seemed to be fizzling away.
“Out now! Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good!” Sia looked at Christine, fire consuming her still transparent body. “Say this with me: “
They prayed together. “King, I ask that you come into my heart and make me new. I plead forgiveness for my sins, and I forgive others that have hurt me. Please, take away this burden of pain and suffering.”
The fire spread throughout her body and engulfed the demons. Their screams stopped, never to be heard again. Sia looked at Christine, who was no longer transparent and gray, but now was full of color and looked like a new person. Sia couldn’t help but recall a verse: ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind.’
“How do you feel?” She smiled. The battle was finally over.
Christine glowed. “Like a new person.”
The bell rang and both of them hurried to their separate classes, amazed at what just happened.
