Aurora dropped off the laundry and sat by her tree, her heart was pounding fast still and she couldn’t help but remember Caspian’s embrace.
It was so tight and had made her feel so safe and wanted. It was something that she could get used to but couldn’t have.
She wondered what he always meant when he spoke of her eyes, a mysteriousness that she held? She also could not figure out what he meant.
The way he had lifted her hand so he could place it on his cheek made her feel warm all over. Then all the daydreams came crashing down when she remembered all the other women he has had and discarded.
To put the cherry on top of the cake he was going to marry Princess Nadia, and if she didn’t keep her emotions in check it would end badly for her.
“Thinking again?”
Aurora looked and found Elliot taking a seat beside her,
“What can one do when they are left alone with their thoughts.”
“That is true, care to share your thoughts Aurora?”
“Not really, it’s nothing that I can’t solve.”
“You are sure closed off,” Elliot responded.
“Aren’t we all up to a certain degree, we let people what we want them to know about us.”
“You got me on that one, I must say,” Elliot responded.
“What do I owe your company.”
“I also am taking a break before I head back to work.”
Aurora nodded, “Do you enjoy your work”
“Very much so Aurora.”
“What is it you do?”
“I will have to show you sometime when you have enough time and are not in a rush.”
“Okay, I am curious now as to what you do so I will one day come to have a look.”
“Is that a promise?” Elliot asked
“Very much so and I never break them.”
Elliot smiled widely at her answer,
“As much as I would like to carry this on, I have to go back for dinner.”
“Of course, same as me in the male quarters,” Elliot replied.
Elliot got up and held out his hand to her which she took and he pulled her up.
“Thanks, Elliot.”
“Any time Aurora, and I mean it.”
Aurora headed back to the servant’s quarters and grabbed her food, all her friends came filing one after another.
“I’m beat.” Said Agnes.
“Aren’t we all,” Ella replied.
“I’m dead on my feet.” Lucy chimed in.
“I might fall asleep as I eat,” Evelyn added.
“I have to cycle back to my place.”
They all groaned, “I feel for you Aurora, you still have to make a tedious journey.” Barbara remarked.
“I have no choice sadly.”
“Has the madam not said anything about the lodgings here?” Ida asked.
“Not at all, I have not seen Madam in a while.”
“I hope she hasn’t forgotten her promise to you,” Agnes remarked.
“There is no space open yet, maybe that is the reason as to why I have not been called.”
“Shucks, they should have built enough lodgings for everyone,” Evelyn added.
“True, I have to love and leave you all.”
Aurora got up and made her way to her place.
When she was in bed and curled up, her thoughts went rampant. The feel of Caspian’s arms had made her weak.
She couldn’t believe she had her first kiss and hug in the last few days. Everything was moving so fast that her mind had to process everything.
Aurora knew that Caspian wanted to break her resilience but for what? To toy with her or was he looking for some answers?
Did she look like someone that reminded him of her, maybe a previous lover? She would figure it out at some point.
This was nothing special, as she remembered the girl that was scurrying out of his room and the way he talked to Nadia.
He had all the right words to coax her.
She finally gave in to sleep when she got the servants quarters the next morning she was famished. She grabbed a bun and some tea.
“Is it me or is it cold?” Ella asked.
“Definitely cold. Look at Aurora’s nose, it’s red.” Evelyn answered.
They all giggled, the tea was more than welcome in her body as it was defrosting her.
When they finished she went to Caspian’s chambers and knocked, the door opened and it was a girl which she did not know.
She must have been from a noble family from the way she was dressed. She scurried past her and she got in and started to clean.
Aurora wondered what was happening in this room that it was such a mess. She started to get to work and when she was done and headed out.
She went to her treatment and sank down, she shook her head. Caspian had the nerve to try and seduce her when he seemed to have different women each and every time she came to clean.
Just because he was a prince, he shouldn’t look down on maids. She was the cheapest she thought, as the other women he slept with were from prestigious families.
Lunchtime came and she and her friends ate, when that was done she went to collect her tray for tea time.
She reached his chambers and knocked.
“Come in.”
She got in and placed the tray in front of him, “Your tea My Lord.”
With that, she started to turn away,
“I didn’t dismiss you Aurora.”
She stood there, head down, “Forgive me, My Lord.”
“Why are you in such a hurry.”
“I wanted you to enjoy your tea without any disturbances My Lord.”
Caspian nodded, “What if I want company?”
“I could call Sir Douglas My Lord.”
“And what if I want your company?”
“I am afraid I have nothing of importance nor a subject that I could talk about with you My Lord.”
“You seem different today.”
“I apologize My Lord.”
“I don’t want your apology Aurora, I want a reason as to why you seem upset and distant? Did something happen to you?”
“No My Lord, not at all. I am alright.”
“Is it me?” Caspian asked.
She hung her head down, it was him.
“You can’t answer which means it is me.”
Caspian started to get up but she stopped him, “No need to bother My Lord, I just don’t want my feelings to be toyed with. They are many women who would love to be in your bed but I am not one of them. So if you don’t mind, I will Excuse myself, My Lord.”
Aurora headed out and her heart beat wildly she was surprised she said all those things to the prince. What was she thinking?
Would she lose her job? Or worse would she have her tongue cut off or her hands? Or would she get imprisonment?
What had made her become so reckless? Dinner time came and she ate quickly and said her byes to her friends.
When she got to her place and was settled into bed, she tossed and turned. How would she face him tomorrow if she was not punished first thing in the morning?
Should she run away? But how would she survive then?
Whatever, she thought, it was done and tomorrow would be d-day.
