Chapter One-The Grim Road

The last time he saw her was yesterday.

Martin waited.

He was agitated now.

Time was going on, slow.

He smoked a cigarette.

The fiery embers burned his middle finger.

'Damn!', he frowned.

The finger throbbed; the pain was preying on his mind.

Then he placed it in water.

It helped.

He was watching 'The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson'.

He ordered two large pizzas, garlic bread, and a 2 liter bottle of Coke. And he knew what was going on; he knew his wife was dead. He called 911, and asked for the New York Police Department. He gave the female operator his name, and address. He had already paid for the pizza with his Debit Card.

He knew that it was going to be a long evening.

The night was full of surprises.

Martin opened the front door.

A teenage girl driver smiled.

'Pizza', she said.

'Thanks. How are you Cindy?'.

'Okay, Martin. Are you okay?'.

'No. But pizza for dinner will be good', he said.

'I heard about your wife's death. If you need to talk, let me know'.

'Fine. Good night, Cindy'.

'Good night, Martin'.

And then, as he finished speaking, two New York Police Officers appeared.

'What's the matter, Sir?'.

'My wife is missing'.

'What's her name?'.

'Anne Blanchard. I'm Martin Blanchard, her husband'.

'Why do you think she's missing...or dead?'.

'Because she is always at home by 6:00 PM. And it's 7:00 PM'.

'I'm Detective Al Blake, and my partner, Detective Rose Parker. We'd like you to write a statement', the Detective said.277Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡEF0DeUbdnJ

'Fine', Martin said.

He ate his dinner, as the Detectives waited.

'We'll catch the killer', Detective Parker said.

'Don't worry about it, Mr. Blanchard', Detective Blake said.

They left the house, as he knew that he was alone.
