Okay.
This is gonna be awesome.
So throughout this story, I’ve told… stories… of things that happened in my 4th grade year. You might have found them funny. I did. You might have found them entertaining. I also did. You might have also… found them as a waste of time. I hope it wasn’t that last one. I mean, that’s fine. I don’t care.
But what I DO care about is this chapter. This chapter is going to be the biggest chapter of the first book, and rightfully so. This chapter is going to explain the biggest event of my 4th grade year. This is chapter is going to be long.
This chapter is also going to be… weird. I mean, every single chapter is on the edge of madness, but this one is going to be especially crazy.
I’ll give you some context. When you were a little kid, you always wanted to be a superhero, right? You’d always stare at the TV or comic books that had powerful heroes saving the day from villains? Of course you did, superheroes were cool as $@#?%&! (tried typing all of the special characters on the keyboard)
So if I told you that we (the children) decided to roleplay as superheroes, you would think it was perfectly normal, right?
Would you also think it would be perfectly normal for superheroes to… fall in love?
Uhh
“Do you know what elements are?”
Anna? What elemen- oh, I know.
“Yeah, like water, earth, fire, and air? Like Avatar?”
The blue people movie?
“Yeah, yeah, like Avatar!”
She started jumping up and down with presumable excitement. I smiled at how enthusiastic (funny) she looked.
“Which one do you like the most?”
“Mm, water?”
Water. Of the four elements, it had to be the most graceful and majestic. Just imagine: brilliant waves plunging over each other as the sun sets on the horizon, or the dazzling rain falling from the sky causing the plants to be sprinkled with joy, or… Oh, oh, I know! A headstrong river rushes over a cliff to produce a sparkling waterfall, musky steam soaring into the sky, and a beautiful rainbow bursting in the clouds.
Water’s cool
It’s also… the cause of flooding, tsunamis, and hurricanes, but that’s not… uh
Water’s… still cool
“Wait, aren’t we opposites? I like fire.”
Anna? Fire? That fits.
“Makes sense. Why’d you ask that?”
“You wanna create water?”
Ooh. Not like that’s possible. What’re you talking about, like, manipulating water?
“I mean, yeah?”
“Well, you can. Just do it.”
This book is sponsored by Nike.
“And… how do I just… do it?”
“Just do it.”
Still sponsored by Nike.
“But-”
She just stared at me. She isn’t going to explain what that means, is she?
“O…k?”
So. Create water. I guess she wants me to just try it out, but… okay. Easy. I looked down at my hands and stared at them for a second, and guess what- nothing happened.
“Nothing happened.”
“You’re not trying hard enough. Here, watch me.”
Alright.
Okay.
So you know what imagination is, right?
I need you to use that for a little bit. As in for the rest of the chapter. Just use your imagination, please.
Anna leaped about 10 feet high and spun around in a circle, making a 360° jump. I noticed a spark appear around her body that grew into a wheel of fire, which spun around her body like a brilliant flame, and as the fire spun faster and faster and grew larger, she fell down to the ground. After she landed, the fire flew up and sizzled away, creating a tiny but beautiful explosion. She gracefully stood back up and looked at me. I smiled and clapped for her.
I need you to stay with me here.
Imagine I’m changing the genre of the book from a romance to a… a superhero novel. Yeah, like from the beginning. Just remember that I’ve completely changed the subject of the story. I’m gonna be saying everything I saw (or imagined) for the rest of the chapter, so I guess you don’t need to imagine too hard.
“Well?”
“How’d you do that?!”
Cliche` (I don’t feel like looking up the actual accented version)
“I felt the fire inside of me.”
Ohhhhhh god
that sounds so bad
I’m sorry, we were like 6, what did you expect us to say?
“So I do the same?”
“No, you do it for water.”
Obviously.
“Uh, okay, hmm.”
Okay. I gotta… feel the water inside of me. Still sounds terrible.
I calmed myself down. I canceled out all noise around me. I closed my eyes and breathed slowly. I felt the wind in my face and listened as it made a whistling noise in my ear and pushed my hair back. The sound of kids screaming was being drained out. Just calm noise was all I heard.
Okay.
So, just, think of water?
“You know-”
“I know, I know, I’m taking forever, shut up.”
“No, I was gonna say you were doing it.”
“Really?!”
I shuttered my eyes open and stared at my hands.
“Just kidding.”
I growled at her. Of course she was just messing with me. I shut my eyes and exhaled through my nose.
“Hi Anna- what’s going on?”
I heard someone’s voice.
“Shut up, Caitlyn, I’m trying to focus.”
Shutting her out (literally, I guess) I was able to ‘focus’ myself easier and tried to imagine a… pool of water? I don’t know.
“Hey, what’s going on?”
I opened my eyes. There was a fountain of water spewing out of the ground. Did… I do that?
“Hey!”
The water shot up a couple of feet high and at the end it spewed outwards, creating a makeshift platform which had a circular area of like 3 feet, enough to fit a child on it. And that’s what happened, because there was a child being pushed up by the spool of water.
“Put me down!”
The child was Caitlyn. She had been floating in the air. Weird.
“What’re you doing up there?”
“I said put me down!”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You heard me!”
“I’m not doing anything!”
I might as well tease her while she’s up there. By now she was high enough that she could break an arm or something if she fell down. That would be funny, wouldn’t it be?
I’m joking don’t try this at home
“Stop!”
“What?”
“Ugh- fine!”
Suddenly, I felt a pull on my left leg. It brought me to the ground, slamming my face on the dirt. As I fell I canceled the water (or whatever you’d call that) to look at what had pulled me down. I heard a thud (a happy thud, not a… bad thud.) behind me and a small ‘mmph’. Before figuring out what fell, I was gonna find out what had pulled me.
Whatever had a grasp on my ankle had a tight, firm grasp, and didn’t seem like freeing me anytime soon.
What ex-boyfriend is clutching my leg now?
(That’s a joke.)
There wasn’t anything like that near me. It was actually…
A vine. N-not the app. Like, the green one. Wait, no, still not the app. Like, the green stuff that like hangs in trees and stuff. Yeah. One of those things was wrapped around my leg. And dragging me. Away. Wait what
“Let go of me!”
The vine still held onto my foot and I looked up. Caitlyn had been let down from my water (you know, the ‘thud’ from earlier?) and was now standing. She dusted the… dust… off of her shoulders. She finished, looked at me, and stuck her tongue out.
“I’m sorry, ‘I’m not doing anything!’”
Oh she- she mimicked my voice. Of course.
She moved her hand upwards, and the vine moved upwards as well, dragging me into the air. I was swung upside down, and the world was now upside down. Where was it coming from? I looked at the vine, tracking it with my eyes, and found that it was coming out of the ground. I thrusted my hand towards its hole, and tried to think of water to shoot out.
“Hey, no!”
Caitlyn saw what I was trying to do and shook the vine. I couldn’t really concentrate while I was shaking back and forth, so not even a drop sputtered out.
I grunted and tried to focus again. Hey, I’m upside down now- shouldn’t more blood be flowing to my brain? That makes me smarter, right?
“Yeah Caitlyn!”
Nope all focus has been lost
“Anna! You aren’t helping!”
“Uh, why would I help you?”
what did i do
“Argh-”
After trying again for another 12 seconds, I gave up trying to shoot out water and decided to escape the old fashioned way. I pulled out my pocket knife and started rigorously cutting away at the-
“Can you put me down?”
Yeah I’m not that cool
“What’d you say?”
god
this sucks
“Caitlyn, can you please put me down?”
“Oh, sure.”
I felt the vine start to loosen its grip on my leg. She isn’t gonna drop me, is she?
“You’re not gonna dr-”
She dropped me. My head plummeted onto the grass and I fell over, rolling on the ground. Ow, that hurt.
“Oh. Sorry.”
“Hahaha!”
ANNA YOU AREN’T MAKING ME FEEL BETTER
“Thanks for the ride…”
I said as I picked myself back up. Caitlyn smirked and she and Anna walked off. My stomach hurts.
Alright. That settles it. I’m not gonna lose to her. I’ve gotta start practicing.
Practicing… making water. Makes sense. It’s like riding a bike. But you aren’t riding anything. And you’re creating… water… okay, it doesn’t make sense anymore.
It’s fine. Just create some water, to start. Okay… water.
I held out my hands, and envisioned a ball of water. Eventually, I could see little droplets form, tiny water bits just appearing out of nowhere, and they all started combining into one big droplet of water. The water was about the size of a small baseball, and I thought about how cool it would be if I could make the ball big-
The water disappeared. I guess as soon as stop focusing directly on the water, I can’t manipulate anything. Wow. Some power.
I tried again, successfully making a ball, which was now about half the size of a soccer ball. So… a little bit bigger than a baseball. You know I could’ve just said bigger baseball actually
I’ve got a great idea! This is a fantasy world, right? That means I can probably do more than just move water (getting a little greedy, maybe)! I took hold of the sphere and wound up my arm, then flung it forwards, releasing the ball. It soared into the air, flying… uh… at least a thousand meters (super strength, not vision).
I continued making water, formed the water into orbs, bigger each time, and threw them.
“You must like handling balls, huh?”
HOLY WHO-
“I’m kidding, I don’t even know what that means, my brother just said it to me when I was playing with some ball puzz-”
“JAIDON WHY’D YOU SNEAK UP ON ME?”
HE ACTUALLY MADE ME DROP MY BALLS
“Uh, sorry?”
Jaidon had walked behind me, terrifying me, and saw that I was playing around with big balls of w-
That’s weird.
He saw I was manipulating water (that’s much better) and asked,
“So you’re a water boy?”
pfft-
“Yeah, what’re you?”
“Uh, I guess a rock boy.”
It’s actually earth, not ‘rock’.
“Wait, so you can move rocks?”
Earth*. He can move earth.
“Yeah.”
He stared at the ground for a second, then shoved his hand straight towards it. On the ground was a rock, and he picked it up.
“See?”
He threw the rock.
“That’s not moving rocks.”
“Watch.”
I stared at the stone, which had been thrown beside me. It suddenly started vibrating on the ground, which turned into shaking madly, and it suddenly shot up. I narrowly dodged it as it ascended, and looked at Jaidon. He was grinning.
“You could’ve killed me!”
“It can’t kill you.”
It couldn’t. I still got mad anyway.
I created a ball of water (I was much faster at ball-making now) and held it, then threw it at his chest. He slowly moved his eyes downward, tilted his head, and stared at his shirt. He was drenched. I snickered.
He rose his hands up. I felt the ground beneath me begin to tremble. I looked down, and everything started zooming out. Like… I saw the ground around me start to fall away.
I was somehow being raised into the air onto a small patch of… ground. Wait, wait, wait, I’m being raised a little too fast- hey, hey, slow down! Wait, no- OW!
The speed caused my entire body to be pushed down onto the rock, so now I was lying face-down in the dirt. How humiliating.
The high-speediness died down and I managed to peel my face and body off of the earth. I looked down. We were, oh, a fair bit above the ground. A couple hundred miles above the clouds will do.
“YO WHAT THE ACTUAL HEL-”
“mmmmuhamemmmmmommm”
I thought I heard someone speak, but I couldn’t really hear, so that’s my best translation for what they said.
I scraped my eyes off of the clouds below me (which was harder than I thought) and looked around. Hey, is that- I think I see someone!
Someone was ALSO on top of a random platform, and was waving their arms.
“WHAT?”
“mhmmowmsmmtmhmaatmswatrby”
“WHAT?”
The figure on top of the platform was the one who was screaming. I stared at them while they were, and started to realize they were getting closer. It was like they were moving, or the ground beneath them was moving towards me.
“HELLO?”
“I SAID! HOW’S THAT, WATER BOY?”
Oh hey Jaidon, what’re you doing up here?
“NO! IT’S SCARY!”
You’d be scared, too, if you were levitating above the max height airplanes could fly at.
“THAT’S THE- YEAH, I KNOW!”
“CAN WE GO BACK DOWN?”
“WHAT?”
“I SA-”
“I CAN’T HEAR YO-”
“SHUT UP I’M TRYI-”
“WHAT’RE YOU SAY-”
“CAN WE GO BACK DOWN?”
I screeched that one using all of the energy from the food I ate that lunch. Jaidon finally understood how to have a conversation and moved his rock closer to mine.
“SO CAN WE?”
“NO!”
“GOD! FINE, I’LL JUST GO DOWN MYSELF-”
“ARE YOU STUPID? HOW ARE YOU GONNA LIVE THAT FALL?”
I’ve got an idea! I’ll think of something on the way down!
“WATCH!”
I looked over the edge of the platform. I still saw the clouds and the minuscule patches of land that were peeking through them. Okay, let’s do this.
Nah. I sat down on the platform.
“What? You scared?”
Jaidon had moved right next to me, and was raising an eyebrow.
“Of course not. I just haven’t come up with a plan yet.”
“Well, I can’t hold two rocks up at the same time for very long, so you better hurry.”
“Wait, what?”
“Too late.”
I looked down at the boulder I was standing on. Suddenly, it just popped out. It disappeared, and now I was standing on nothing.
Yo wtf happened to the floor
“AUGH!”
I started falling. Straight down. I was flailing my arms, trying to reach out to grab on nonexistent objects to slow my fall. After that plan failed, I tried to come up with a way to survive slamming onto the ground. Okay. I’m not gonna be able to just block my fall, I’m very obviously going to die if I try to just stick the landing… so I’ve got to figure out another way to protect myself. Let me just get out my parachute- oh. Wait, wait, slow my fall? Feather falling! No, that won’t work, I’d need wi- Wings? Could that work?
I was still making a starfish pose until I started to do a midair somersault, flipping my body around so that my feet were in the air (or, more in the air) and my face was pointed downwards. I was taking a nosedive straight down.
“OOOOOH MY GOOOO-”
I was a little excited. I saw the clouds quickly approach me, and as soon as I fell through them I closed my eyes.
Whew. Okay. Just think. Think of wings.
I felt my back go cold and wet, and I felt a small weight push down on top of me. I opened my eyes and twisted my head so I could see.
Wings had sprouted from my back. Water wings. Wings made of water (no really). I had done it.
Here comes the hard part. Landing on the ground without breaking my face and the rest of my body’s bones. Just gotta. Use the wings.
How do you use wings again?
I was only a couple mile away from the crust of the earth. Alright, so what do superheroes with wings do? They like, glide down. So… I guess making my face go first wasn’t the right option. I flipped my body upwards so that my feet were going down, and started to try using the wings. I flapped them wildly, and I slowed down by about… 4 miles an hour. Alright, just 198 more miles an hour to slow down by. I tried stretching them out as far as I could. Slowed down by another 7ish miles an hour. Hmm… What if I combine those two ideas? I slowly flapped them, and my speed reduced massively.
The ground was in sight. I was only a couple hundred meters off, and I was only going around 20 miles an hour. Keep slowing down. Keep it up. Just go as slow as possible.
“Why’re you so slow?”
I shot a look to the right. Standing on top of a floating boulder was…
“How’d you catch up to me, Jaidon?”
“You’re just slow.”
He continued moving the boulder down to the ground, but I then realized- was this his plan? Was he just trying to beat me to the ground? No, no, nononono, I’m not gonna just… lose to him! I just made wings! I’m cooler than him automatically! Losing would just look bad!
I turned my body downwards, plunging with my face at the bottom. Gotta time this one right.
I was right above the ground now. Just gotta quickly open up my wings, slow down, and…
I arrived on the ground, skidding and slowing myself down with my feet which felt like my shoes were being burned (like a rug burn), and looked up. There he was.
“I win!”
“Shut up. So your power is to look dumb?”
Hey, the wings were cool!
“Shut up. So your power is to be annoying?”
And scary.
“You’re annoying.”
oh, I’M ANNOYING? Wait who said
“No I’m not. You’re annoying, Caitlyn.”
“Your power is dumb.”
“You’re dumb.”
I’m just smacking her right back with the hard-hitting insults
“I think plants are cool.”
“Jaidon, don’t help her.”
“Yeah, I agree!”
“Anna, wh- you stop too.”
Looks like no one’s on my side in this argument.
Oh, speaking of everyone, does everyone have powers?
Yup, that’s correct. Everyone does. Before I started ‘practicing’, Anna ran around the field asking people for what element they wanted to have. Some people said ‘water’, or ‘fire’, or ‘steel’ (I don’t get this one), and they all followed Anna to where we were. Anna, who I guess was the leader, asked:
“Hey, what’re we calling ourselves?”
“Hmm… good question.”
Oh- OH! I know! I know!
“How about the Element-”
“Nope, not gonna listen to you, water boy. No one cares.”
Hey! Wait, water boy? Wait, no, hey! That’s rude, Jaidon!
“Anna?”
Caitlyn looked at Anna. She was smiling.
“The Elementals.”
THAT’S LITERALLY
“That’s a great name!”
Caitlyn and the others started congratulating her. Guys, please, it’s just a name.
“Alright, let’s go beat up some people!”
Wait, Anna, what? Aren’t we the good guys?
“Wait, we need a hideout first.”
Rigggggght. We need a hideout first. Good catch, Anna. I still don’t get why she’s the leader.
“Okay, where will it be?”
“Uh, right here? Where else would it be?”
Uh, I was just asking a question? Why you gotta answer so rudely?
“Fine. Are we also living here?”
“Uh, yeah?”
“Hey, Anna, I know where Alan and Caitlyn’ll sleep.”
Jaidon… what’re you implying…?
“Yeah, me too. They’ll sleep right next to each other. It’s so that they-”
“Hold on, what?”
Caitlyn and I looked at each other for a second, made a grossed-out face, and looked back at Jaidon and Anna.
“Alright, they’ll go there, and… why don’t they just share a bathroom, too?”
“No, stop it Jai-”
“Why don’t they just have a house to themselves?”
“Anna, don’t help him!”
“Everyone agrees?”
NO
“Yup.”
God! Why are they like this?
BRIIING
The bell rang. Recess was over. We’ll have to continue this story tomorrow.
Alright it’s tomorrow. Time to continue the story.
“Do you wanna fight at recess today?”
Never thought I’d hear that from you, Caitlyn.
“Uh, sure? You wanna get beaten?”
“By you? Yeah, right.”
I rolled my eyes and she walked away. Lunch was almost over, and as soon as the bell rang, I ran outside to find where she was waiting for me.
“Anna?”
I walked behind Anna who was just sitting down, pulling on the grass and making a pile of green beside her.
“Huh?”
“Where’s Caitlyn?”
“Wow, you’re looking for her? What, do you like her or something?”
“No! She wanted to-”
“Ooh, you like Caitlyn!”
She started getting louder. Lovely, now I have to quickly stop her from screaming.
“Stop screaming! I’m just trying to say-”
“I know, I know, I know, you’re just dying to see her. I’ll tell you where she is.”
“Uh, okay, where is she?”
“She’s behind you.”
I once again felt a pull on my right leg (or was it my left?) and fell to the ground. Falling onto my face, I rolled over with my back to the earth. I created water beneath me to use as a spring to lift my body off of the ground. I stood straight up and saw that Caitlyn had her arm stretched outwards with a vine growing straight outwards. It was still attached to me and I created a… water sword… And cut the vine off. I used the same sword to point it at Caitlyn.
I’m getting pretty good at controlling this, huh?
“That’s cheating!”
“Literally not at all.”
“Whatever. Are we gonna-”
“Yep.”
She started to create more vines, and I tightened my focus. I created another sword of water and was now dual-wielding.
I dashed forwards at a blazing speed and got ready to slice a sword forward. I saw that she rose her hand up, setting up for an attack, and a wall of trees grew up. I figured my swords couldn’t cut it (get it? Cut-it? Like the metaphor?) so I slowed down right before slamming into the wood. I thought of jumping over the trees, but I knew she’d be expecting that. I turned around to think for a bit and saw a stretch of vines start to clamp together over me. It was aiming to trap me in a cage of nature, and only a minor amount of openings. I could attempt to slice through the vines, or I could jump up before the vines closed in on me. I assumed the vines were strong enough to withstand a couple of strikes, so I leaped into the air.
“Knew it.”
One of the trees bent over (yes, the tree bent) and it grew at an alarming rate- it was huge and pushed me backward. As I was being hauled away I noticed another wall of trees had been growing behind me. I was about to get crushed between the forests.
“Oh, great.”
I created a pool of water on the base of the tree branch and used it as a springboard. I jumped into the wall of trees and quickly dodged the incoming barricade. I created a vortex of water around myself and concealed my presence. I kinda… transformed my body into water, which, as you know, is invisible, and I had hoped she couldn’t see me. I dashed around towards the central area of the forest to try and land a blow.
She couldn’t see me.
“He’s over here!”
Anna you mother
“Thanks!”
Caitlyn had now spotted me, and trapped my body with a group of vines and I struggled to move. They squeezed my ankles and wrists so hard it felt they would tear the skin off.
They did. My body exploded.
Haha, just kidding, that was actually my clone. When I summoned a shield of water around myself, I cloned myself to trick her (and Anna, too. lucky.) and my real body got closer to where Caitlyn was. I kept on cloning myself by making more water that looked like me (but, you know, made of water) and kept on closing in.
The sky shook as the clouds above grew dark and large (don’t know if I caused this). A distant thunder, a lightning bolt far away. A storm was coming.
I dont know why i said that its not like i would get stronger after the rain came
Anyway, I noticed that Caitlyn had the same idea as me. There were plants that looked like humans that were charging straight after me. Huh. We kinda think alike? No, no, that isn’t important.
I had my clones combine into one huge clone, which stepped and demolished all of the plant clones. As Caitlyn was being distracted by my own clones, I came up with the new attack.
Go… Hurricane!
Still covered by water, I started spinning around wildly and the water surrounding me began to spin in a vortex. I was making a hurricane, or a water tornado if you don’t know what a hurricane is. Well, that’s not technically what a hurricane is either, but whatever.
Spinning made my travel speed faster (definitely what I planned on happening) and the tornado grew larger. It started to suck up both my own clones and the plant clones, so all the clones were pretty useless. Nice.
I got closer to the wall of trees and as I did I rammed into them, started to whittle down the wood and embark (get it) on deforestation.
As I deconstructed the last part of the wood, nothing was standing in between Caitlyn and me.
Uh there were a lot of things standing between Caitlyn and me.
I stopped spinning and noticed a huge structure made out of an assortment of plants reaching up high in the atmosphere. I didn’t see Caitlyn and assumed she was at the very top of it all. So the first thing I tried to do was pull a Jack and the Giant Beanstalk. I created an axe made out of water and began swinging it into the plants, doing absolutely nothing in the process. I wasn’t cutting the vines at all. It wasn’t even making the little markings you see when you rub a fingernail against a piece of wood. No, this was doing literally nothing. It was just too thick.
Just like meeeeeeeee
I decided to use my favorite move- water wing dash (that’s what it’s called now). I sprouted (get it, sprout? Sorry, that should be the last nature pun for a while) some wings and flew upwards. It took a while to reach the top, and when I did, I saw a very obvious fighting platform with Caitlyn standing on the edge of it. I de-sprouted my wings and stood on the other side of the platform.
I then proceeded to rush forwards. Instead of swords, I brought out a weapon called a Morning Star- a chained mace, a spiky yo-yo, whatever you wanna call it. I then started swinging it around my body and charged at Caityln with the lust for blood.
She created a wall of bushes, but I was ready. I jumped high into the air, created a sword in mid-air, and swung it forwards like I was chopping butter. But… it was a huge stick of butter and I was using a huge butter knife. You know that was a terrible simile.
After I cut through her shield, I landed right on top of her. No, like, in an attacking position. She blocked my plummet with a shield made out of tightly-sewn grass. She then used it to knock me away and brought out a bow. She pulled out a quiver and plugged the arrows into her bow.
I created a staff and began spinning it in front of my body in a circular pattern to make a makeshift shield that blocked all of the incoming arrows. I then pointed it like a javelin and threw it forwards. But I wasn’t gonna wait for her reaction. I threw another staff, or javelin now, and proceeded to run straight at her again with a giant hammer made out of water. As she was deflecting the spears I swung the hammer around my body, creating a spin attack, and prepared to knock her off the platform. But she created springs under her feet using plant fibers and bounced up. She created a scythe and swung it towards me, and I bounced back to dodge.
Hey is this pacing okay I feel like I’m talking too much
I threw a razor-sharp boomerang outwards, hoping it would catch her off guard, but she destroyed it immediately with the scythe. The water fell to the ground and I was running out of suitable ideas.
Could I charge at her with a regular sword and shield? Make a catapult and launch myself to strike? There’s no time to think. She swung the scythe again and it slashed right through me- don’t worry, I had turned the middle part of my body into water and I didn’t feel a thing. After using that evading tactic, I turned my entire body into water and fell into a puddle. She couldn’t see me (because I soaked into the plants of the platform) and I snuck up behind her.
She (somehow) dodged my sneak attack and jumped into the air. I jumped too, higher than her, creating a huge sword in the process, and then struck it downwards to try to land a hit. But I missed and hit the platform, splitting it in half (the top must’ve been weaker than the roots of the structure- you know, like the roots of plants?), and the top of the platform started to shake. We faced each other for a split moment before I came up with an idea.
I got into a focusing position and put my hands together.
After charging up, I released a huge load blast. O-Of water, not of anything else. Ahem.
The water shot straight forwards, and I’m 96% sure it hit her. If it didn’t, she definitely still got a little wet, which is all I needed.
I created chains and they got magnetized towards the water that was on her body, clamping onto her hands and feet. She tried to pull away from them, but she was stuck. I walked up to her.
“That’s not fair.”
“Well, that just sucks, doesn’t it?”
“Hmmph.”
She gave up. She let her arms go limp, and I decided to let her go off a little easy, releasing the chains on her arms. She still had them on her legs, so she couldn’t move.
“HAHA! I win!”
“Mm…”
“Huh?”
“Nope. Boop.”
She literally said the word boop as she used one of her newly freed hands to touch my nose. She pushed my face back, and I stumbled, falling back, off the platform.
Oh. Huh.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
I was too tired from using up a lot of water for the last few attacks to pull out another wing dash. I started dropping. Without my water, I couldn’t do anything to save myself.
I could call for help. If I was a wimp.
“HELP!”
You love to call me out, huh?
I closed my eyes and suddenly something wrapped around my waist. My descent was slowed, and I could feel myself being lifted up… while falling down.
I opened my eyes, and there was a bundle of green ropes tied around my body.
Vines.
I looked up and Caitlyn was right next to me, also being carried downward by a bundle of vines.
Did… did Caitlyn save me?
“I didn’t save you, by the way.”
She didn’t. She said that as we reached the ground, and Anna walked up to us.
“Did you save him?”
“No I didn’t!”
“Yeah, she didn’t, I beat her.”
Yup, I won.
“That’s also not what happened.”
Caitlyn, but
“Y-yeah, it is, I won.”
“No, you didn’t.”
“You- whatever.”
I gave up trying. Caitlyn noticed more people walking up to us, and asked:
“Hey, everyone, what are our names?”
Uh, Alan, Caitlyn, anna, what else would they be?
oh superhero names
“I know! Flare!”
Anna screamed her name out loud.
“Cool, Anna! Uh, what should I be called?”
Caitlyn asked, and I rolled my eyes. I started mumbling.
“We fought in the sky… mm... Sky…lar?”
“You think she should be called that? What do you think, Caitlyn?”
“Uh, okay…?”
Woah, what? Did Caitlyn just agree to a name I gave her?
She definitely shouldn’t have.
“You like it? You must like Alan’s ideas. What, do you like him or something?”
Jaidon started being annoying. Thanks, dude.
“NO!”
“Just, just stop.”
Caitlyn and I both started yelling.
“Yeah, yeah, what do you wanna be called, Alan?”
Jaidon ignored- wait, huh? For me? Ooh! A name!
“How about we let… Skylar… decide his name, since he picked her name for her? Because they’re a couple~”
“Shut up!”
Anna laughed. Caitlyn stared her down.
“Ugh, fine. Uh, he can control water, so… Poseidon?”
ooh
“No, that’s like saying he’s super powerful, but he’s super weak, so not Poseidon…”
oh
“Well, still Poseidon- related, so… Poseidon’s son?”
“Triton?”
“Who’s that? I meant Percy Jackson.”
Well, Triton is the real son. ‘Percy Jackson’ was the fictional story character that was made up.
“Uh… okay…?”
Everyone started laughing. I thought Percy was a fine name. Caitlyn looked away from me.
I feel like this whole superpower thing was a bad idea. Nothing good has happened since it started. I got beaten up three times, and people made fun of me… more than three times.
God. Whatever. I’m done. I’VE DECIDED
No more action or weird superhero stuff, even if it meant a lot to my 4th grade year or whatever
