Chapter 11
"Thank you." She said to me.
"Of course, we are partners after all." I told her. I thought for a moment before asking her another question.
"37, if we are going to be living together can I at least know your name?"
"It's Anne. Anne Ruth," She told me,"what about you?"
"Jack Randall." I told her. The rest of the week continued like this, mostly. Every day I would return to find a nice dish cooked and waiting for me, except for one day where I went grocery shopping. Eventually, after learning to live with each other, it was time to go back to The Silent City. Luckily enough, we were called back later at night.
"Don't die out there." She said as we left the building.
"Same goes for you." I told her. We turned opposite ways and continued down the path toward the place we committed suicide from only two weeks earlier. As I reached mine, Valmundra decided to strike up a conversation.
"Looks like someone's getting intimate with his partner." It said.
"Shut up." I said.
"Well aren't you touchy." It said.
"I've been in a bad mood all day, and since when were you the type of whatever-you-are to have a conversation?" I asked, annoyed.
"Since I wanted to be." It replied.
"Whatever, can we just go already?"
"Oh, you're no fun." It said sarcastically. My body began to glow blue as a circle appeared under me, and I was greeted with a familiar rush. My vision flashed white with light for a second. I looked around and found myself in the teleport room I was used to. As quickly as possible I got off the teleport area, making sure not to show any eye contact. One mistake was enough. I didn't even have enough time to find Anne before I was sent to my arena, where my opponent was already waiting. I took one look at his weapon before relaxing. He was wielding a katana, and considering the mood I was in, this was lucky. I didn't really want to deal with anyone right now so I didn't even flinch when the countdown started. Once the room flashed green, he charged me. I was already pissed off enough today so I wasn't going to deal with any flashy martial arts or anything. Instead, I did what people with guns have done to people with swords for generations. I shot him in the god damn face! It was over so quickly that I had time to kill, instead of people. I looked over at the other games and... sweet Jesus I was glad to have Anne as my partner. I looked over to see her holding a flamethrower, standing on the safe side of a burning arena with a burnt corpse sitting in the fire. She noticed me and smiled. It honestly looked kind of hot, in a psychopathic sort of way as well as in the literal sense. Before I knew it all the battles were done. 'Oh god, please don't tell me I'm falling for her' I thought.
"Are there any questions?" Valmundra asked the sixteen of us who were left. There wasn't any.
"Feel free to leave when you wish." It told us.
I decided to head straight back to my house to think about things for myself. As I got home I sat down on my couch and started to think. Luckily it was about half an hour before she got home.
"Hey, you left without saying anything." She said in a concerned voice.
"Yeah, if you couldn't tell I've been in a bad mood all day." I told her.
"Well then I'll leave you alone." She said as she started toward the stairs.
"Hey Anne." I said as she was walking upstairs. She stopped and turned.
"Yes?" She asked.
"Can we go out to dinner tomorrow?" I asked her.
"Sure." She told me.
"Great." I said as she continued to walk upstairs. 'Now I've got to think of how to tell her.' I thought.
