“You mean to tell me that you saw Carmen Sandiego leaving a prison and not a museum? And that you again failed to capture her? And she was accompanied by GRAHAM CALLOWAY?”
Chase gulped. “Yes, Chief.”
Chief sighed. “Agent Argent, you’re the smart one, what do you make of this?”
Julia adjusted her glasses. “Well, it seems she was there to break Mr. Calloway out of prison, but we don’t know why he was there in the first place, or what his connection is to Ms. Sandiego, or even V.I.L.E.”
“And,” Devineaux broke in, “when we caught up to them, we saw the two entering a white unmarked van by the back doors, which were being held open by that ninja. The one who kidnapped me.”
“So we can only assume that either Carmen is working for V.I.L.E, or the ninja has defected over to Team Red.” Chief said, her face hardening. “I’m dedicating A.C.M.E. to either recruiting or capturing Carmen Sandiego.”
Julia cleared her throat.
“Do you have a problem with that, Agent Argent?” Chief sighed.
“Not exactly. I was just going to say that, if I pretended to defect over to Team Red and won her trust, I could attempt to recruit her myself, instead of waiting for her to show her face publicly again. Especially now, when she has Mr. Calloway under her protection, I don't believe she will come out unless V.I.L.E. does first.”
“Fair enough. Agent Devineaux, I’ll pair you up with Agent Zari temporarily.”
“Fine, Chief,” the Frenchman said.
“Argent, you’re on point. Capture the Scarlet Superthief, and there might be a promotion in it for you.” Chief smiled. “Go get her.”
