I can’t remember my mother’s face.
The woman who brought me into the world, kissed it all better, saved me from the monsters under my bed…for three damn years. And I can’t remember her face.
It breaks my heart that she loved me more than anything in this whole world, and I can’t even keep her memory alive. Can’t even remember the color of her eyes, the shape of her face, her smile…can’t even know if I look like her.
I try to remember, strain my brain really hard in hopes that some memory from twelve years ago will pop up and at least mend some of the throbbing on my heart.
But it never works.
And it kills me, every moment, of every day, that I can’t remember my mother’s face.
