Thousands of leagues under the Atlantic Ocean sat an ancient civilisation of mer-people, the kind you would only hear about in myth and legend. They lived in a vast city, stretching itself as far as the eye can see. The ancient city of Atlantis stood tall, in the centre a crystal palace posed, proudly watching over its’ people. The civilians were in full swing, preparing the city for the royal coronation of the young princess Aqua-Marie. 72Please respect copyright.PENANADHEu98NMk2

It had been six years since a terrible incident broke the hearts of the entire city. The king and queen took a swim close to the dark depths. The cities food had become scarce, supplies were rationed, yet this wasn’t enough. Many were fighting for their lives for weeks; others were luckier to lose their battles daily. The dark depths were a forbidden part of the ocean, no mer-creature was supposed to venture to. It gained its name from stories passed from generation to generation, however it was simply forbidden because it belonged to the humans. It was their fishing spot, and had been for centuries; however, it was the only place the fish swarmed. 72Please respect copyright.PENANAeJ5nlze8BJ

Whilst the king and queen ventured into the dark depths, they were spotted by divers. They were captured and harpooned ready to exhibit in the human world. It was a cruel fate they had suffered; however, the mer-people continued their lives, with heavy hearts full of sorrow to protect themselves from the humans. 72Please respect copyright.PENANA85gfkFx72o

The king and queen had left their two daughters at the palace before leaving, entrusting the servants with their lives. Immediately Aqua-Marie imprisoned herself in her room when she learned of her parents passing. She was only fifteen, still a babe just entering adulthood. Aqua became deeply troubled and depressed, leaving her twelve-year-old sister, Coraline, alone with no one but the palace staff to talk to. 72Please respect copyright.PENANALc7SkgjNJn
Although six years passed, not once did Aqua-Marie open her door, all her meals were left outside the door. It was her prison, her tomb, her sanctuary of comfort. Today was her coronation day, she was finally become queen. She awoke early, fixing her copper hair into a neat and precise braided bun. Aqua took a seat at her coral vanity, dipping a cloth in water to cleanse her soft skin, admiring her beauty in the shell mirror. 72Please respect copyright.PENANA9VUfTdIA3T

“Oh mirror, tell me I’m beautiful,” she giggled as she washed her ruby tail scales. Aqua-Marie had enchanted the mirror with her magic after she lost her parents, creating her own best friend, Edmund. 72Please respect copyright.PENANA51Rv3YAHr4

In the mirror appeared the face of a great white shark, his grin grew wide, flashing pearl whites. 72Please respect copyright.PENANArxbAlIp2nd

Aqua paused, her smiled dropped, her head turned slowly to glare at the shark, “Only in this room?” she questioned, the tone of her voice grew higher. Her face flushed red with anger as she stood up from the stall. 72Please respect copyright.PENANApjJZ92sgT6

Edmund looked past her fury, continuing to smile, “Well your sister Coraline has grown into quite a beautiful woman as well, your highness.” 72Please respect copyright.PENANAnReaO0L4x9
