The best thing in the world is waking up to your dog being adorable. His favorite ball in his mouth, curled on his back so his belly is in the air, snuggled to your side and being all cuddly. Of course he's doing this for a slightly ulterior motive. What he really was hoping against hope for was you to wake up and throw his ball. I looked at the clock and grunted. I had slept in. Well, I couldn't get to sleep until past 10, and Shadow woke me up at 11 and 1, bugging me to take him outside so I could throw his ball and so he could do his business...but still, it was almost 8 now. I reached for Shadow's ball, and he was off like a bullet from a gun. I slipped up from the large bed, the Brazilian cherry wood cold under my feet. Shadow got the ball, but playfully kept just out of my way as I went to my mirror closet, sliding it open to look at the cloths hanging there. It was the weekend, so I was going to try and relax. I had plenty of money from my previous jobs, and my lines were quiet for the moment. I had a lot of lines out there, clients that could be put in danger any moment, all around the world....so while you were waiting for the worst to happen...and as long as your lines were quiet, you took advantage of that time. Which meant it was beach time for me and Shadow. I grabbed a black and blue bikini and a see through, short dress to go over it. Black in the back and see through greys and whites with outlines of palm trees on the front. Once dressed I opened the blinds and looked out into my backyard. Now, upon hearing that I live in Croatia, you'd probably expect my backyard to be this beautiful jungle backdrop that led to the ocean...Nah. I lived in the suburbs. My backyard was about an acre so it was pretty big considering. Mostly grass with one tree offset toward the middle, otherwise the trees bordered my property line. Croatia was more exotic on the islands, near the beaches, and further away from civilization you got, like the parks. Shadow was being annoying and begging so I took him to the backyard, grabbing my right elbow as the cellphone I held to my ear rang. "Hey Jordan." I was pleased to hear Fi speaking english without an irish accent. I was the one she had asked to coach her, seeing as how I grew up in the U.S.587Please respect copyright.PENANAsyePiv9GAi
"So, how'd it go." I drawled the words out as I watched Shadow run around with his ball and go about his business.587Please respect copyright.PENANAfOAqcGX5Fp
"Sadly, he's not dead. Pity really."
My eyes shifted so they were looking up at the blue sky, "Fiona." I warned.
"He wasn't awake but a few minutes before he asked me for a favor Jordana. He actually had the balls to ask me for a favor."
I frowned and raised my eyebrows. "What did you say?"
"I got him to promise me a dinner." She sounded so proud of herself.
I winced, "But you helped him out."
"Yeah, well, it wasn't a really big favor really. Just some distracting."
I didn't like the sound of that. "He used you as bait?"
"Oh no no no. Jordan, I said distracting. I just talked to some FBI agents while he slipped out the back."
"I don't like that."
"Yeah, well, that's just because you've never been a spy or a thief. It's really not that big a deal, trust me."
I winced again. Not even my best friend knew about my past, just bits and pieces of it. I focused on the problem at hand. I didn't like this. She had only been down there for less than a day and this spy was making her act not like herself. "Are you sure you don't want me to come down there?"
"I can handle him. I don't need a babysitter, especially by someone who is almost less than half my age."
I winced again, but my tone didn't show it as I deadpanned, "I'm more than half your age."
Fiona growled at me through the phone, "How'd I know you were going to say that. You always try to get out of trouble by making smartalec comments. And whatever, you're still a lot younger than me so buzz off."
"But still-"
"Goodbye Jordana." Fiona cut me off and hanged up. I sighed.
