Shadow was also very excited to see Fiona. I was slightly amazed he still remembered her, he had been young when they had met. I raised an eyebrow when I opened the door and Fiona strolled in. Her hair was long and brown. What was different was her choice in cloths. She was wearing a brown pant suit over a white blouse. The only thing familiar to me that she was wearing was her toe-less heels and big dark sunglasses, which she pushed up on top of her head so she could see better. After a quick hug that I wasn't even sure actually happened, she was stalking around the room, opening doorways and going into them. I stared after her. Then closed the door, folding my arms, dressed in the t-shirt I had purchased and my skirt. I waited for Fiona to finish her snooping. "Pluto Ingersleben? Are you serious?" She came out of Kal's office. "What were his parents thinking?"562Please respect copyright.PENANAUTZvZo3GUo
"Pluto..." I suddenly found it amusing. "He told me his name was Kal."
"Kal? Can't say it's perfect, but it sure as hell beats Pluto." I smirked, but Fiona frowned now, "Jordan, what are you doing? I mean, I get that your Uncle vouched for this guy, but come on. Your uncle is known for being a little...relaxed. You know nothing of this guy."
I realized I had touched my lips after I had actually done it, and nonchalantly refolded my arms. "It's fine. He doesn't seem dangerous." ~Not quite.~ "He's letting me stay here, but he doesn't really seem interested in me." ~Not anymore anyway.~
Fiona narrowed her eyes and marched up to me. "What aren't you telling me?"
My eyes widened and I bit my lip, my words wanting to rush out to rave about my mistake yesterday. I look away though, I still don't know if it would be wise to tell her...Fi could be quite...explosive. "I had a new....experience the other day...."
I jumped as Fiona slapped her palms down on the counter. "Now you got me worried. Speak plainly and hurry up and tell me what happened." She complained, practically glaring me down.
I sigh. "Kal's pretty smooth. Ok, listen to this." I'm getting into my tale now and sit down on a bar stool. In rant mode. "I call Uncle once I get off the plane...only he cancels on me and tells me a friend is coming to get me and has agreed to let me stay for as long as I'm here....only we hang up without him actually telling me his name or anything." Fiona rolls her large eyes. "Shadow chases a cat into a plaza next to the airport. And there we find this handsome hunk sleeping under a tree. Fi, I mean this guy is to drool over. Some leaves are on him and I don't know what possessed me, but a reach for one and he wakes up and grabs my wrist. Now I'm pissed and embarrassed so I go right? I mean, yeah we have slight conversation, but I practically book it ok. I'm so out of it, that Shadow gets free and chases that damn cat up a tree... So now I'm up the tree, saving the cat and who passes by? The hunk! He practically hypnotizes me with the way he handles the situation and he helps me down, the total knight in shinning armor, I mean we are hitting it off big time....and we end up kissing...." I somber up, "Then he finds out who I am...and he totally shuts down. I mean, cold shower, the light switch is off, quiet. Awkward?" I look away, embarrassed and pissed. "I let a playboy kiss me. I'm doomed."
Fiona gives a short laugh at that. She slaps my shoulder, grinning at me, "Congratulations, you've finally taken notice to a guy. I was starting to wonder what team you played for, you didn't bat an eyelash at anyone." Her smile faded away as she studied me, before picking up again, "But you know, if you ever want someone to shoot him, I'm your girl." She winked and I smiled. "Come on, let's go grab a drink before I do another little favor for Michael."
I freeze up at that, "You're doing what?" I stare at her incredulously. The Fiona she knew would never do a second favor for someone who had broken her heart like Michael McBride.
Fiona just shrugged, "Oh, it's no big deal. I'm just going to be the Cuer."
I rolled my eyes. "I want to come with you."
Fiona grins at that, "Perfect, maybe later you can finally meet him." The thought for me is not a happy one. I already wanted to make him unconscious and I hadn't even met him yet. With my thoughts troubled over Michael, Fiona smirked and led the way outside, leaving Shadow behind. Lost in thought, I followed her out to the parking lot...when finally something caught my attention and a gaped at that car in front of me. It was definitely a new model of a sportscar....royal blue with an orange stripe diagonally near the rear and a blue and orange spoiler.
Finally able to shut my mouth, I cock a hip at Fi and prop my hands on them, gazing at the older woman skeptically. "Ok, sure. Fi, I know you have a lot of pride...but really? I mean come on, we totally aren't going to get arrested driving around in a car that screams, 'Only one in the entire U.S.'"
Fiona shrugs with a sly grin, "Where's your sense of adventure?"
Pouting, I follow her example and practically fall into the seat, it's so low. "Adventure?" I snort. It's true that whenever I'm with Fi, we do wild and outlandish things that I never would normally do. It was fun...though crazy. To my relief, Fi drove normally to an irish pub where I had my UV & lemonade and Fiona ordered something called The Kicker, which looked like it was coffee and alcohol. "So tell me what Mike's been up to." I ask, shifting toward her as she stares at her drink, setting it down.
Fi finally shrugs. "I'm not really sure..." She swirled the ice in her Kicker with her straw then folded her arms on the counter and faced me. "He's been Burned." ~Oh.~ I look at my drink in surprise. Fiona too turned forward and looked at the mirror across the way, pulling out her straw from her drink and chewing on the end. "Is it horrible of me to be a little happy at that?" I wince, but shrug, not voicing any comment. Being Burned was a Spy's worst fear. Even if I hate spies...I couldn't say that I was happy to hear Mike was Burned...though at the same time, I didn't really feel any empathy for him either. I just was respectful enough to not gloat over what probably seemed like his world ending. Fi raises her eyes to the ceiling and groans in frustration, "Anyway, he's taken on a little freelancing case. I'm actually really glad he is. He's helping an employer who's the fall guy for his boss to get some insurance money from the government."
I raise an eyebrow, intrigued, "Oh?"
"Yup." Fiona plops her straw back into her drink and takes a swig. She glances at me over her shoulder with her large blue eyes. "Your kind of work. Knew you'd like it." She shrugged. "I'm not sticking my nose in too deep." She looked down at her drink again, "Still not sure how long I'm gonna stick around." I nod in understanding, taking a long draw from my bright blue drink. God I love UV & lemonade, don't think there's a better mix of flavors out there. Fiona pushes away from the counter and leans back, looking at me again. "The employer is planning to visit his bank today, we're just going to come out ahead of him to signal Michael that he's coming."
I frown, trying to figure out what Mike was planning, "And what does Michael have planned?"
Fi shrugged, taking an innocent drink from her straw, "Just bug his car."
My frown deepens and my brows furrow, confused, "And why doesn't he just, I don't know, do that when he isn't coming toward the car? I don't understand."
"Did I mention this guy's really rich? High security?" Fiona glances at me and winks. "Oh, you're going to love this. Just watch and see what happens. This'll be fun."
I have to smirk at that. It was always fun...if a bit filled with anxiety, whenever Fi was around. "So what else can you tell me?"
"Hmm," Fiona collected her thoughts, "Well, our mark's name is...um, something Pine?" Fiona squinted as she thought, then shrugged and relaxed, giving up, "Sinfully rich." She shrugged again, "I don't really know what else to tell you. Like I said, I'm trying to keep some distance with this one."
"Alright." I say, taking another drink.
"Hmm." Fiona says, propping her head up as she leans on the counter and looks at me with a mischievous smile, "You should ask Michael for the details."
I roll my eyes. I was not looking forward to meeting the spy. I snickered a little to myself, ~Or ex-spy.~ I shift, crossing my legs and taking another drink. "Ok, so what exactly will we be doing?"
"Well, we need the car open to access in order to plant the bug, so that inconspicuous person needs to act after the guard has pulled up the car and is waiting for Pine to reach them." That seemed like some task to me. I rolled my eyes, ~Spies.~ They always had to do things in such a complicated way. Fiona started sipping on her straw again. "We'll just be leaving the bank ahead of Pine to give Michael the signal to get ready...." She said around her straw, her large blue eyes staring off in space, "No point in sticking around afterward. Hey, let's go to another bar later." Both she and I were finishing off our drinks, and she looked like she was getting ready to leave, so I assumed the time was closing in on Pine's appointment. As she turned, her gaze studied me before she smiled, "Hmm, never mind." As I stood up, she hooked her arm in with mine and we left, though we ditched the insanely expensive sports-car and walked, Fi's clicking heels setting the tempo. Fiona looked me up and down again, "I obviously need to take you shopping." I rolled my eyes, but smiled. Hanging out with Fi was exhausting, but I knew it was good for me to come out of my shell. I was familiar with the large bank we went to. To try and protect my clients, I've had dealings with various banks. Thinking of Fi's promise of a shopping spree, I withdrew some cash. Turning back toward Fi, I notice her glance at an older man, his face a little sunken. His eyes pale blue and his grey hair thick and full. Judging by his suit, obviously rich. Hello, Mr. Pine. I committed his face to memory. He obviously was handsome back in his day, hell, I guess to those older ladies and gold-diggers, he still was. Ha. As I came back to Fi, she turned on her heels and led the way out of the bank. I stayed in her shadow and paused with her as she stopped, as if adjusting to the light, but I realized she was looking in a specific direction and followed her gaze as she shook her long brown hair out of her face. There, up the steps to the plaza across the road was a man in a tan suit that was looking over his shoulder. And hello Michael McBride. I was still eyeing him as I followed the now uninterested Fi down the steps. Michael looked back toward us his hands in his pockets. I stopped and looked back, realizing Fiona had paused again, looking toward Mike. She slid on her large sunglasses and I squinted against the sun, seeing another man, buff and judging from his greying, though thick hair, a little older than Mike, standing next to him in a Hawaiian shirt and khaki shorts and sandals. Fiona smiled cockily and turned back toward me and we continued on our way. We walked down the block and around the corner. Eventually Fiona walked a little faster and wrapped her arm around mine once more. "Now, let's put this all behind us and get you some decent cloths." I was really worried about her. She was awfully hot and cold right now. Wanting me to meet Mike, then avoiding him like the plague...
Well, whatever. It's not like I knew what she was going through. I frown playfully and glance down at myself. "My cloths aren't decent?"562Please respect copyright.PENANA55r3S7UcEq
"Honey, it looks like you got drunk off your ass last night, and are doing the walk of shame having dressed in a pitch black room." My frown deepened and I looked back down at my t-shirt, skirt, and sandals, then shrugged. Aw well. Fiona laughed. "Don't worry. I'll take care of you."
