I woke up to Shadow hopping on the ground next to the bed, trying to get my attention. Soft dawn light filtered in through the two windows in the room. I groaned, shifting away from him and stretching before letting out a sigh. I got up, sliding on my brown leather criss-crossing sandals before clipping the leash on Shadow, grabbing a bag from a drawer in the kitchen, and the spare key laying out on the pristine counter like an island all on its own, then took Shadow for a walk. By the sound of it. And lack of orange mustang in the parking lot, Kal wasn't there. I walked Shadow down the road until we came to a gas station. I tied Shadow near the bikes, kneeling in front of him. "Shadow," I cupped his face for a second, making sure to grab his attention. I made a hand signal to him, "Quiet." Shadow was still young. I couldn't leave him out here without ordering him to do that. Although he was getting better, he might still bark at people if they tried to get near, so I ordered him to stay quiet, no matter what. I went into the gas station, buying necessities, dog food, and a black tourist t-shirt, then took Shadow back to the apartment. I hoped Kal wouldn't get back and get offended before I could buy him a proper dish, but I used one of his bowls for Shadow's food and another for his water. I should have done that before I went to bed...but I had almost legitly passed out. I leaned against the counter, sighing again, before I took out my phone and called Fiona.550Please respect copyright.PENANAO6JVuvYBcD
"Hey, you done visiting with your folks?"
I blinked, not wanting to talk about Kal....and yet way deep inside I contradict myself and actually wanted to rave away about him to Fi. "Uncle canceled on me actually."
"Why didn't you call me? Where'd you shack up?"
I frowned, "My uncle made accommodations."
There was a pause on the other line before Fiona said, "Well...ok. We'll talk about that later. I don't suppose you have a ride?"
"No."
"I'll borrow something and come pick you up, where are you?"
My frown deepened and I looked around, but didn't see any mail. "An apartment, hold on." I went to all the rooms before I found the study. There, neatly organized was mail in different shelves on the desk. I picked one up and read Fiona the address.
Fiona whistled, "Your uncle bought you an apartment? Didn't peg him for the type. Maybe he really misses you."
I hesitated...and it wasn't like me, "His friend is letting me stay."
Fiona paused again, "Oh....I'll be right over."
I sighed, "Thanks Fi."
"Jordan...never-mind, we'll talk this all over after you get settled in and we're in a bar."
I smiled, "Sounds good."
