Aubrey
"You have got to be kidding me!" I screamed. I was video chatting on my laptop with Ashley, one of my white friends from catholic school in Vermont. "I'm not. I saw him hugging Heather at the food center." Ashley shook her head and folded her arms.
The food center was the place Mike and I always went on our lunch break and after school. It was basically our "thing." Mainly because we hated hanging around a group of people when we would much rather spend quality time with each other.
"That's why he hasn't called or responded to my texts." I whined, lowering my head and sniffling, on the verge of tears. "Aubrey, pull it together, okay? I haven't seen them kiss or anything. They've just been at the food center... A lot." Ashley trailed off, pulling her thoughts together.
"Oh, God." I exclaimed as tears started streaming down my face. "Pull yourself together." Ashley tried to encourage me. "They might as well be a couple, Ashley." I sobbed.
As Ashley sat on video chat, I pulled out my cell phone and tried calling Mikes cell. It went straight to voicemail as if on cue. Attempting to call his house, his mother picked up.
"Hi Mrs. Shirley. Is Mike home? It's Aubrey." I spoke sweetly, masking my broken voice. "Oh, uh. I'll, um, see if he's available." His mother choked out. There was definitely something I didn't know.
I could here voices in the background. One of them was Mike's. Great. "Tell her I'm at practice. I don't want to speak to her right now." He scoffed. A few moments later, she came back to the phone. "He's out at practice. Can I take a message?" She lied.
"Tell him I can hear him! And if he's going to leave me for Heather, he could at least have the decency to call me and tell me. Coward!" I yelled into the phone before hanging up and throwing my phone on the bed.
"Well that was certainly not the reaction I expected from him." Ashley said, awkwardly. "You think?" I asked her sarcastically. "Hey, I'm not the one you should be mad at." She scoffed. "You're right, I'm sorry about that." I apologized. "It's okay, I get it. I know how you feel right now. I'll keep you posted, okay?" She responded. "Thanks. I'll talk to you later." I said, ending the video call.
Once I made sure Ashley wasn't on the screen or could hear me anymore, tears came streaming down my face.
How could Mike do this to me? Especially with one of my closest friends. Well, someone I used to be close with. Heather surely wasn't my friend now. She didn't even have the decency to ask me if she could see Mike. How dare she?
My heart hurt. My eyes hurt. My stomach hurt. My soul hurt. Never have I ever been so deceived. By someone who told me they loved me. Boys are so full of shit! Trying to take my mind off everything, I closed my eyes and attempted to go to sleep.
A knocking on my door pulled me out of my deep slumber. I rubbed my eyes and said they could enter. Surprisingly, it wasn't my main door that was pushed open. It was the bathroom door. It was Alexis.
"Hey." I said, still half sleep. "Hey. I heard you crying. You okay?" She questioned me. "I'm fine. What time is it?" I asked, attempting to change the subject. "One." Alexis answered.
"Why aren't you sleep?" I questioned her. "I don't know. I'm kind of a night owl." She shrugged. "Oh, okay." I responded. There was a silent pause for a moment before she finally spoke again. "If you need anything, my door is unlocked." She said before turning around and leaving my room.
I sat for a moment contemplating my next actions. I didn't want to be alone. Hell, I didn't even want to sleep alone. Hopping off my bed, I grabbed my phone off the charger and placed it on vibrate. I changed slid off my pajamas and threw on a baggy shirt instead.
Alexis laid in bed watching television. From taking a glance at the screen, I noticed she was watching adventure time. Such a kid, I thought to myself.
I slid into her bed and threw the covers over my body. Immediately, I felt more comfortable. Alexis rolled over to face me and smiled. She cut the tv off and wrapped her her arm around my waste.
Her arms were so warm and welcoming. I shifted my body closer to hers and she did the same. We were literally an inch apart. The light from her window revealed nothing but our lips. Alexis inched her face closer to mine and brushed her lips against mine. For some reason, I had the urge to feel them.
I closed the space between us by kissing her. Which just lead to us adding our tongues to the picture and our hands roaming all over each other. Places that no one had ever touched on my body, I allowed Alexis and her hands access. I couldn't help the moans that escaped my lips and the need to have more.
In the morning, I woke up to the sound of my phone vibrating violently on Alexis's floor. Trying to grab it, I realized I was trapped in her arms.
Looking over at Alexis, who was sleeping peacefully, I mentally replayed the events and actions of last night. It felt really really good and felt right too. But in my mind it was wrong and it shouldn't have happened.
Detaching Alexis's arms from around my body, I slid out of her bed and sped walked back to my room to answer Mike's nonstop calling.
"Hello?" I whispered into the phone. "Aubrey. Hey. Why are you whispering?" He questioned me. "Because.." I trailed off, flailing my arms around stupidly as I tried to think of an excuse. My eyes traveled to my alarm clock which read six in the morning. "It's early and everyone is still sleep." I sighed in relief.
What was I going to do about Alexis?
