I just had to include the link to the documentary trailer here because you are about to watch just one of the most powerful real-life tales you will ever see. Growing up, Fiona Oakes experienced several pain in her knee and was told by various doctors that she would never run again. After seventeen knee surgeries (and no right kneecap) she discovered the world of marathon running and has never looked back. She now holds multiple world records and raises awareness for the animal sanctuary that she co-runs with her partner and veganism.
This follows her into the toughest race in the world which many people have attempted and failed to complete: The Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara Desert. 250km of harsh, dangerous, and brutal terrain in which daytime temperatures could top 50*C but at nightfall down to single digits or even below freezing.
After a particularly down day mental health-wise for me, this was an uplifting view that you really should watch. I could feel Fiona's pain during the marathon as she tried to protect her health but also her missing home in the UK and fear of not finishing what she set out to do.
