Hi, Readers! This is a short chapter like the previous one, but don't give up on me yet, I am going to go back to making them longer. I also am not sure if I should do each chapter from one character's point of view or stick with Edison's or do the third person. Please hang in there with me and thank you. I appreciate you all for taking the time to read this story.

Edison shrugged off his jacket and hung it on back of the chair. He was sitting next to Anna at a round table in the cafeteria. Next to him sat Trey and some chick who kept giggling at Trey's jokes. Another couple sat across the table from them, looking like they wanted to devour each other.
Anna leaned across the table, her bracelets jangling, staring at the couple until they looked up.
"Dakota and Ian, meet Eddie."
"Actually, my name's Edison -"
Anna waved a hand at him as she sat back in her seat. "I like Eddie better."
Edison took a sip of his soda as he glanced around the table. They definitely didn't accept him except for Dakota. She seemed genuinely nice.
Dakota smiled. "Nice to meet you, Eddie."
"Welcome to the cool kids' table, buddy," Ian smirked.
"Thanks."
Anna cleared her throat and folded her arms as she glared at Trey who was pretty much ignoring everyone except the girl he was with. "Trey."
"What?"
"You're being awfully rude to our new member. And you haven't introduced us to your newest lady friend."
The new girl giggled and tucked her blond hair behind her ears which held sparkling earrings.
Trey put his arm around the girl tighter. "This is Jolene. I told her she'd be welcome."
"Welcome, Jolene. For now, you're a visitor, not a member. We'll see how you do."
"Thank you," Jolene replied. Her voice had a faint southern accent.
Anna beamed at Edison as she spread a napkin on her lap and began eating her salad. "You'll be glad you joined us, Eddie."

"Hey," Edison tapped Nora on the shoulder as she was headed out of the cafeteria. That one creepy guy with the shades still lounged against the wall and watched her.
Nora turned around. "Oh, hey."
Edison glanced behind him. Anna and her group were busy on their cell phones.
"Nora, I feel weird about things. I just wanted to talk to you."
"Sorry, I'm kind of in a hurry."
"We have fifteen minutes before our next class."
"I know."
"Can we talk out in the hall. Please?"
Nora looked at his sad face and said "Sure, fine."
Edison followed her down the hall, over to the lockers where there weren't many kids hanging around yet.
She made his stomach do somersaults, even though she wasn't dressed in anything sexy. She wore one of her favorite rock t-shirts, jeans, and short boots. Her hair was so shiny and the perfect color of auburn, not red like some girls had.
Suddenly, he felt a tug in his mind. "Ouch," he muttered.
"What's wrong?"
As he pushed away thoughts of her, the tugging pain went away.
"Just a little headache. Listen, I know you said you just wanted to be friends, but I wouldn't be here if I didn't think you felt the connection too."
"Things are different now. You're in their group. It's better to stay friends, Edison. You don't want to get tangled up with me and my crazy family. I mean, not romantically."
"I'm not in their group. I had lunch, that's all."
"You've chosen sides with the cool kids."
"Nora, no, I didn't choose anything. Anna asked me to eat lunch with them. It was a one-time thing. She helped me gather info on the dead girl you saw. And...and she has some kind of ability where she can sense the other side."
"It hurts that you believed Anna but not me."
"Will you forgive me?"
Nora nodded.
"You need to be with me and I need to be with you," he stepped closer and gently put a hand on her cheek. Her skin was so soft.
She blushed. "I want to be with you too, Edison. I just didn't know what you thought of me-if-and I don't know if this is a good idea..."
"You talk too much, Nora Slater," he whispered and leaned in closer. His lips had barely touched hers when Anna's voice ruined the moment.741Please respect copyright.PENANADwZR7CqTxy
"Cool kids don't associate with peasants," she said and hooked her arm under Edison's, pulling him away and leaving Nora looking stricken.
Edison stopped in the middle of the hallway and unhooked his arm from Anna's.
"I can make my own decisions," he said.
"Eddie, I was only trying to help," Anna said.
"Thanks for lunch and everything you did, but I don't think I need your help." He took Nora's hand and walked down the hallway.
"Never say never," Anna called.
Just then, another searing pain ripped through his mind.
He fell to his knees and clutched his head.
