“Okay, she’s out.” Stiles lightly sighed, putting his hand through his hair. I turned around and glanced at my passed-out friend in the back.

I was silent. At first, this felt like a good idea, but now it feels morally wrong.

Stiles starts to pull over.
“What are you doing?” I ask
“You’re sitting in the front. And I don’t care what you say.” He stated with a smirk upon his face.
“What do you mean? Sydney's sitting in the front. There's no way to-” He gets out of the car, opens her car door, and pulls the lever to the right of her seat. The seat falls down immediately, causing her body to crash down with it.
“STILES!” I shriek.
“Okay okay, drag her to where you are sitting.” He directed.
“What- um okay?” I stuttered.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAeo2jP3FM2C
Stiles went to grab her feet, but I didn’t need any help. Mostly due to the fact that I was pretty strong and she was really light. Abnormally light.
“How- what- WHY- how did you do that?” I felt my face flush. I couldn’t tell him about the training.
“She’s really skinny.” I blurted.
“What do you mean?” Stiles paused, confused at my reaction.
“She doesn’t eat anything.” I responded
“Okay, how would you know that from literally moving her to the back seat one time?” He pressed.
“At school, she acts like the lunches are Thanksgiving,” I told him
He laughed.
“No, I’m being serious,” I replied, as I buckled her limp body into the seat.
“I mean she could just really like school lunches.” Stiles suggested with a shrug.
“Dude, not even Scott, wolfs down his food like that.” I stated, trying to hide a smile as I waited for him to comprehend the joke.
“Oh my god, that may have been the worst dad joke I have ever heard.” He giggled.
“You know that was awesome. Probably the best no-pun-intended, ever.” I answered.
“Oh shut up.” He laughed
262Please respect copyright.PENANAoFpWuLJqOY
I shut Sydney's door and hopped in the front seat.
“So, are you okay?” Stiles asked, hesitantly. I felt my heart sink, and tears rushed into my eyes again.
“Mhm.” I replied, looking away.
Stiles hadn’t started driving yet. He brushed some hair away from my face and when he saw that I had tears in my eyes, he was immediately concerned.
“Laura, what happened?” He asked,
“It doesn’t matter.” I whispered
“It matters to me.” Stiles said, softly.
I looked up at him.

The memory from 30 minutes ago, flooded into my head.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAOdrhfucfv6
I walked inside the house with Lydia.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAHlm8snmTbN
“Is that Lydia?” Allison yelled, rushing in from the other room. I turned around to exit the house again when Allison turned me around.
“Laura.” she whispered
“You can’t be here, they found out about Brett.” she told me, with an alarming look.
“What….?” I wondered out loud.
262Please respect copyright.PENANACcwAgy6Zgc
And then I watched, as my dad, my mom, and Kate stepped out from the hallway. Allison and Lydia went to the backyard, leaving me stranded with the three most intimidating adults to ever walk the Earth. We walked into the family room, Kate sitting on the chair in the corner, and my parents both sitting on the sofa.
262Please respect copyright.PENANARcZMc2wMYp
“Would you like to explain to us why Brett was here a few hours ago, checking to see if you were okay?” My mom asked, her expression showing no mercy.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I whispered, avoiding eye contact.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAICQrnCEJZ3
“Brett came to the house, clearly injured, and asked if you were okay. I told him that I had no idea what he was talking about, and we wouldn’t let him leave until he told us what happened.” My dad stated.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA9683mdvpQs
262Please respect copyright.PENANABdB5np18FY
I underestimated Brett. He did this purposely. He knew my parents would lose it.
262Please respect copyright.PENANADuRBMDgffP
“Care to explain why you’re just going around, beating people up now?” My mom questioned again. My aunt quickly looked up, and gave me a look of anger. She had told me countless times not to expose what she had taught me.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA2bfxBKRBAC
“I wasn’t beating him up.” I stated.
“I went on a walk, and he tried to grab me. He hit me. So Stiles-”
262Please respect copyright.PENANAjwbvihge0n
“Stiles was there?” My dad interrupted, raising his voice.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA6xd9tejGI2
“He was just trying to protect me, dad. He tried to block him from hurting me.” I argued as I watched as my dad's expression stayed the same. He didn’t believe me.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAuuHZehk2hC
“Then, Brett went to hit Stiles, but I kicked him in the gut before he could. And just when we were about to leave, Brett got up and punched him in the face. And then Sydney came and did a karate-thing to his shoulder and he was on the ground.” I told them.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAMvMBFZH2Mf
“Who was walking with you to the coffee shop?” My mom asked
262Please respect copyright.PENANArGd2BaBJuU
“Stiles.” I stated.
“So then how did Sydney enter the story? She wasn’t with you when you started walking, so then how did she know that you were in trouble?” My mother questioned, giving me the well-known 'Argent-glare' I realized how unrealistic my story was sounding.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAP8OwYImc1h
“Well, I left her a note on the counter.” I quietly answered.
“And she just happened to come right when Brett started ‘beating you up'?”
262Please respect copyright.PENANAikf8vPphAm
“Yes.” I blatantly stated. There was a ‘you seriously expect me to believe that’ look, written all over her face.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAmQ4eRNHo3c
“You don’t believe me?” I asked, my throat starting to sting. I felt frustrated tears gathering in my eyes. I saw my aunt and my dad give each other the same look.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA65Uu65643I
“Chris, I’m going to let you deal with this.” My mom said, throwing her hands up, and walking out of the room.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAA77WtLc1vp
“Kate?” My dad asked.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAfwpoKd7hZ0
“Me?” she retorted. “One second please, Laura.” She shot my dad a dirty look.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAOwha8FiGYc
“Chris, THIS IS YOUR DAUGHTER.” she hissed.
“But you’re a girl, I don’t know how to deal with this.” he hissed back
“What's that supposed to mean?” She screamed-whispered.
Kate walked over, and they started to whisper in a quieter tone, to the point where I couldn’t hear them.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAkwdLkDSd2G
“Okay.” My dad stated. “It is completely unacceptable to hurt people, period.” I lightly scoffed, I knew that he was a hunter, he literally killed wolves in his free time. But he didn’t know that I knew.
“I don’t think you’re lying about him trying to hurt Stiles. And it’s selfless that you were trying to protect him. For that, you aren’t going to have any consequences. But, I don’t want you ever talking to Brett again.” As my dad finished, my aunt started nodding.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAaF2CLPUczG
“Tell your mom I said no phone for a week.” He stated. I smiled, and hugged him.
“Thank you.” I whispered. My dad gave a small smile,
“As long as you didn’t get hurt,” he said, and walked out of the room. I was finally relieved until I watched my aunt's face change from happy to furious.

“Come with me, now.” She sharply stated. Grabbing my hand, hard, and bringing me to her bathroom.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAcqMnqh02ni
“Sit on that counter.” She said, filing through her cabinets, clearly looking for something.
She pulled out a small pack of makeup wipes.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAWdArnmt5Ot
“Clean your face.” She stated.
“But- I-” I stuttered.
“I don’t care. I already know it's there, there's no use in hiding it anymore.” She said, giving me a nasty look. I took the wipe across my eye. It started to sting.
“It hurts.” I said, looking at her longingly. She had no sympathy in her eyes.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAMSzTBswb7w
“What have I told you, countless times Laura?” She asked, clearly frustrated.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAbOSpS7Rc5i
“I can’t let dad know that you taught me how to fight.” I recited.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAZQS2Gt2m4N
“No.”

I looked up, confused.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA2CtkqfAb9T
“You can’t let your emotions get in the way.” Kate affirmed.
“Letting your emotions free, can be deadly. Especially when it comes to men. All they will do, Laura, is pick up your heart-of-glass and throw it onto concrete.”
262Please respect copyright.PENANAnK8E4IxWlq
I went to play dumb, but I knew exactly who she was talking about. The tears from earlier, started to come back.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAJ6gjqDWRHC
“Crying isn’t going to solve anything. Toughen up.” She disclosed, handing me another wipe.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA7ZEEz1tnbD
“Now I want you to scrub your face with this one.” she stated
262Please respect copyright.PENANA3M8uJrCPmn
“But there isn’t any more makeup left.” I said, my voice cracking. She didn’t care. I sniffed, and began to harshly wipe my face with the wipe. There was a strong burning sensation.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA0AdTb62BHk
“You know the pain you feel right now?” She asked
“When he breaks your heart, it's going to feel one hundred times worse.” she continued.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAY0qAd7l9Vs
“But he isn’t like that.” I whispered, barely loud enough to hear.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA3DDeZYqwAf
“ARE YOU LISTENING TO YOURSELF?” she asked, pulling me off the counter.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAo11w0xJggO
“It’s already started happening.” She said, shaking her head.
“Do you want to see what happens when love gets in the way?” She asked me, looking into my eyes. I felt my body collapse, as tears started streaming down my face.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAoDFtD6q3bE
“This happens.” She turned me around so that I was facing the mirror. My black eye was darker than it was originally. My blue eyes are now complemented with shades of purple, black and blue. My once innocent-looking face was now streaked with tears. And my warm, brown hair was a mess. I am a mess.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAR6Ufz8jBe3
Kate turned me back around and hugged me.
“I’m only hard on you because I don’t want you to make the same mistakes I did.” She said, giving me an understanding smile.

We were silent for the next five minutes, as she fixed my hair, and helped me calm down. Once she finished, she hugged me again, and I immediately walked out of the bathroom, numb. I wiped the tears off my face as best as I could as I exited the house, and hopped in Stiles' car.

Stiles was still looking at me. I internally debated telling him everything. Brett coming to my house, my parents yelling at me, the training, Isaac, how I have to have my own ranch bottle in my refrigerator because my family can’t stand how I use too much ranch.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA3LUB7p8Kds
And it was finally clear to me now,
how I am maybe fond- of him?
Not the other word.

The statement finally put my mind at ease.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA1r2GZEXdF4
As a friend.

“Okay, can you tell me why I feel like you just had an epiphany?” He asked, startling me. I laughed.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA4tov2ASWHl
“I’m sorry it was just a family issue. Nothing serious.” I smiled.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAqVtYsSCuDX
“Okay well, I want to tell you something.” He looks at me.
262Please respect copyright.PENANACnNmTvrewW
“Okay.” I hold my breath.
262Please respect copyright.PENANA6Gr0bMajy2
He started to move his shoulders, signaling that he was uncomfortable. Or that he is struggling with what he is about to say.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAKrjVcEsEuh
“I think that we-”
We hit a speed bump too fast.
262Please respect copyright.PENANArialaTnz0S
“Dang it, I’m sorry.” He said, shaking his head nervously.
“What were you saying?” I asked. Hoping beyond hope, it was what I wanted it to be.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAO6JiKYbtKR
“I think- don’t be sad.” he blurted. “Because sad backwards is DAS, and das not good.” He joked with a sad smile. I pretended like I didn’t see the look of defeat on his face.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAQA3kuFk11l
“Okay, that might actually be worse than my dad joke.” I laughed, trying to distract him. He laughed too, but it wasn’t the same.

We pull up to the empty sheriff station, and I wake Sydney up.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAdXipe9Y8ZB
“Hey, we’re at my house now! Time to watch some Harry Potter!” I said excitedly. Her, clearly still out of it, slowly stood up.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAQSF8vk06gK
“Yayyyyyy!” She said, sounding as if she were drunk. As she tried to wobble her way out of the car, she passed out.
Thankfully, I caught her before she face-planted onto the ground. She was so helpless right now. Was she scared? Would she be mad? What if she never wanted to talk to me again? She’d said she hadn’t wanted to be friends but it seemed like she was changing her mind. Would she still do that after this? I mean I was the one who had given her the coffee.
“Um, are you sure this is a good idea? I mean what if we’re wrong? What if she hates us after?” I questioned, my uncertainty clear.
“Laura, I know you feel bad, but just think about it this way. What if she knows who the alpha is and is trying to hurt all of us? I don’t think we can take that kind of chance. Lives are at stake and if we are wrong and she hates us then at least we’ll know for sure that she isn’t trying to kill us.” Stiles replied.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAMwGkVvzdl9
I knew he was right. Lives were on the line and this was important. I took a deep breath and just nodded.

We start to walk towards the back of the building, Sydney in hand, when Stiles abruptly stops.
“Okay, so the station has a security camera right in front of the door right there.” He says, pointing. “If we go any closer it's going to send a notification to my dad, and worst-case scenario, he’s going to come down to the station.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAjEFUCCuzGJ
“So how are we going to do this?” I asked, gesturing to the fact that we were still carrying her.
“Here.” He says, letting go of her legs, and gently setting them on the ground. He grabbed a small stone that sat nicely in the palm of his hand, and he chucked it as hard as he could. I watched as it soared through the air...and miss the building completely. He face-palmed.
“Why aren’t you in baseball Stilinski?” I ask, with a small smirk.
“Oh well, my best friend stole the single baseball bat that I had. The things I do for him.” He said, shaking his head. “I suck at sports,” he continued, “sarcasm is my one and only skill.” I laughed.
262Please respect copyright.PENANAww6WLo4vMC
“No, that's definitely not true. This is going to sound cringy, but you definitely have a way with words.”
“I do?” He asked, his cheeks turning a light pink.
“Yeah..” I replied in a small voice, looking at the ground trying to hide my smile.
A moment a silence crept its way into the conversation.
262Please respect copyright.PENANANE1g3Rc2SL
“Oh, can we use a bag to cover it up? I remember seeing one in the car.” I suggested.
“That actually might work.” He agreed. He grabbed the bag and slid his body across the wall of the building to get to the camera. Then, he quickly tied the bag handles around it.
“Okay, let me disarm the alarm and I’ll unlock the cell.” I wait a couple of minutes, and then he comes back out and helps me carry her into the cell. We set everything up in ten minutes, when a familiar police car pulls into the parking lot.
“Stiles.” I whisper-shout. “Your dad is here, what do we do?”
“Go, go, go, we have to make sure he doesn’t get in.” He whisper-shouted back. We quickly made our way outside, as Stiles’ father (Noah Stilinski) steps out of his car.
“Stay right here.” He whispered, as he made himself visible to his father.
“Heyyyy dad!” Stiles smiles
“Stiles. What are you doing here?” He asks, annoyed.
“Oh you know, just doin’ a little school project at the station.” Stiles clearly lied.
“Mhmm, and that made you feel the need to cover the security camera.” He replied, not convinced. Stiles just nodded.
“SCOTT? Are you over there?” his dad shouted.
“Yeah, it's also a birthday present that you aren’t allowed to see.” Stiles retorted, as he quickly followed his father that was starting to walk towards where I was- right next to the door.
“Okay, you know what,” Stiles yells, causing him to turn around.
“I am lying. I need to tell you something really important.” He says, causing Mr.Stilinski to turn around.
“I am- There is-” Stiles started, clearly not having an excuse. I peeked my head around the building.
“WE ARE DATING-” Stiles blurted and gestured towards me. I quickly stepped out from behind the building and gave a small wave.
“Laura Argent?” Mr.Stilinski asked, squinting.
“Hi, Mr.Stilinski!” I awkwardly greeted him, walking up to Stiles.
“I haven’t seen you in a few weeks, how have you been?” He asked
“I’ve been really good.” I replied looking at Stiles. I started tapping my leg, a nervous
habit I had inhabited from my mom. Stiles looked down, and quickly slid his hand into mine. My stomach did a backflip-somersault-back handspring-cartwheel.
“I had a feeling you guys were together, Stiles is always talking about you.” Mr.Stilinski cheerfully stated.
“Is he really?” I asked as I watched Stiles drag his hand across his face.
“Thanks, dad.” Stiles interrupted before he could continue.
“Okay so Stiles AND Laura, what are you two doing at the sheriff's station?”
“Oh you know, we were uhhh-” I started, forgetting what his excuse was earlier.
“You know, just uhhhh-” I continued, clearly struggling
“Making out.” Stiles quipped
“What?” Mr.Stilinski asked, questioning if he heard his son right.
“With tongue.” Stiles added. I shot him a look.
“Okay, okay too many details.” Mr.Stilinski gestured to stop.
“Stiles, please lock the door when you leave.” Mr.Stilinski stated.
“WHAT?” Stiles and I asked at the same time.
“You’re not allowed to be in the sheriff's station.” Stiles’ dad stated in a monotone voice,
showing us that we could, as long as we don’t say anything.
Stiles smiled.
“Thanks, dad.” He replied.
“Keep it PG, please!” Mr.Stilinski yelled as he drove away.

As soon as his dad was out of sight, Stiles turned to me.
“I am so sorry, you didn’t deserve that.” Stiles stated, looking to see if I was mad.
“Oh my god no, that was actually kind of fun.” I said, knowing that there was a huge smile on my face.
“Okay, you only liked it because my dad told you that I talk about you.” He said smiling, as his cheeks turned pink again.
“Mmmm, no I liked the extra detail you added at the end of the ‘makeout’ excuse.” I laughed
“Oh, you liked the tongue part? It definitely took uncomfortable- to the next level. I now realize when you make out with someone, the tongue is implied.” He giggled.
“It’s okay Stiles, I forgive you. This time.” I said, sarcastically raising my eyebrows. He giggled again.
“Hey, my hand’s getting cold, would you be able to hold it while we walk back to the door?” I asked, taking a leap of faith.
“Oh my gosh of course.” He smiled, his cheeks now red.
“Just to make sure you don’t get hypothermia, you know. Defffinitely not for other reasons.” He grinned.
“Oh my gosh, certainly not. Us together? Phfhfff, what a crazy idea.” I giggled.
“I know, I don’t even know where it came from.” he honestly replied. My heart dropped.
“Oh okay.” I said slowly, dropping his hand in defeat as we were two steps away from the door.
“Wait no, I didn’t mean it like that at all-”
“I just need to go and help Sydney.” I said, pushing away the stinging feeling in the back of my throat.
“Hey-” He grasped my hand and threaded his fingers through mine.
“We’re in this together, okay?” He said, pushing the hair out of my face. My heart filled with warmth.
“Okay, Stilinski.” I smiled, slightly swinging his arm.
“Okay, Argent.” He swang back
