The silence is killing me, you can practically hear a pin drop. It’s been a solid five minutes since Sydney and Scott left, and the car has a surrounding somber silence, filling the air with a strange emotion. I don’t like the quiet, something about it is just unsettling.
“Soooo……” Mia says with a smile on her face, breaking the silence.
She was probably trying to start some form of conversation, but I already knew where it was going. And I didn't like it.
“What’s the deal with you two?” She questions, pointing to Stiles and I.
I give Stiles a side glance and he does the same. I contemplate all the responses I could say, without getting me into another sticky situation. I flip my body around to face her.
“Hm? What do you mean?” I ask, trying to act like I knew nothing of what she was talking about. This option was probably the safest one.
“Well, the two of you keep sneaking small glances at each other.” She explained. My heart stopped. We’d been caught. Stiles and I look away from each other.
“Yep, see. I’m no fool. And there was that thing Sydney said while she almost died earlier today.” She explained, gesturing both her hands in a circular motion.
I didn’t understand why she was so curious. Why did she want to know how I felt? If I’m being honest, I didn’t even know how I felt. I looked to Stiles for help, and he gave me a little smile.
“That’s a little creepy that you’re watching us.” Stiles noted half-listening, as he filed through his music playlist. It was titled, Best Songs On the Face of the Planet.
“Well, we are literally in a car sitting two feet away from each other with nothing to do. My phone is at home sitting in a stupid rice bath.” She huffed, slamming her head against the back of the car, hitting the window with a loud ‘thunk’. I giggled a little but the joyful present was replaced with a dreaded past.
I recalled the events from earlier, and how I was having a panic attack in the bathroom. I didn’t want to draw attention to it, because I know that Stiles would freak out for me. And I don’t need him to worry about me.
“Mia dropped her phone in a toilet.” I whispered to Stiles, loud enough for Mia to hear my tease. He looked up to see if I was serious.
“NO. YOU DID NOT!” Stiles shrieked, as he put his phone down, and turned around to face Mia in the back seat. He was clearly intrigued.
“This is what happens when you let men preoccupy your life.” I state, particularly watching Stiles’ expression change. He flipped around back into his seat, and opened his phone once more. The car was filled with silence again.
“Sooooooo Laura, are you talking to anyone right now?” She asks, darting her eyes from me to Stiles.
WHY IS SHE PRYING!?
I turned my full body around, and looked her straight in the eye.
“Yes! I’m so, so glad you asked. I really regret not telling you sooner.” I stated, shaking my head in sarcastic disappointment.
“I’m talking- to your mom.” I smiled, giving her finger guns. It's sort-of hard to defend yourself, when your defense mechanism is humor.
She was about to say something until Scott jogged up to my door.
“You’re sitting in the back. It’s ‘broski’ time.” He chanted, giving Stiles a fist bump as he climbed in.
“Broski?” Mia asked as I found my way around the car.
“Yes.” Scott answered
“So it's like bro, right? And then you have Scott. So then it's, ‘bros’. But then you have to add Stilinski. Hence, broski.” Stiles explained as he clicked a song on his playlist.
I shook my head and did a major facepalm as I climbed into the car.
I gave Mia a huge smile, and whispered in her ear,
“I’m going to murder you in your sleep you turd.” She giggled and gave me two thumbs up as a ‘you’re so welcome’. The instrumental of a song began to play.

“This is literally my favorite song!” Scott chimed, giving Stiles wide eyes.
“YES! SAME! It’s so good.

”Her name is Noelle.” Scott sings, annunciating the N in the most annoying way you can imagine.
“I have a dream about her.” Stiles continues,
“She rings my bell.” They both say, acting it out in sync.
“I got gym class in half an hour. Oh, how she rocks. In Keds and tube socks.” They sing together.
“Oh my god, they are literally in their feels.” I tell Mia, trying not to laugh. She and I begin to silently laugh, because we don’t want to disturb their moment.

“And she doesn't give a damn about me.” Stiles chimes quietly, looking down at his steering wheel.

“CAUSE I’M JUST A TEENAGE DIRTBAG BABY.” They scream together, as Stiles begins to head to Derek’s house.
“YEAH, I’M JUST A TEENAGE DIRTBAG BABY.” They scream again, this time I sing too. Mia gives me a surprised look. I see the wheels in her head start to turn.
“I’m not answering any questions.” I tell her, before she can say anything more.

I think my favorite part of the whole car ride was when everyone (including Mia) sang the high pitched-female part at the end of the song.

By the end of the car ride to Derek’s loft, we were exhausted from giving the song our all. I get out of the car to help Mia to the door, just to make sure she doesn’t get hurt by any sketchy people that lurk around those quarters. Before she enters, she turns around and looks at me.
“Oh by the way, for that Christmas party, would I be able to bring my little brother? He just moved here with my dad recently, and he needs friends” She explains, giving me an anxious look.
“Yeah, of course. I don’t think that anyone is going to care.” I explain, giving her the thumbs up.
“Just warning you, he’s a pretty good-looking dude. I don’t want you leaving Stiles for him.” She warns sarcastically. I roll my eyes. She begins to unlock the door, when she pauses.
“HAVE FUN WITH STILES!” She screams, loud enough for Scott and Stiles to hear.
“HAVE FUN FUCKING DEREK!” I scream back, fully satisfied with myself.
“Hm?” Derek asks, poking his head out from behind the door.
I walk back to the car with Scott and Stiles clapping.
