Nikolas passionately kissed me, making my knees buckle in nervousness. I weakly stepped back and began to feel out of breath. The vampire continued to kiss me as he pinned me against the barrier. One hand tightly held my waist while the other pulled my head closer to his own.
I tried to tell Nikolas to slow down, but I suddenly felt something slip into my mouth. I gasped as the kiss began to escalate. I desperately clenched onto his vest as I helplessly let him take the lead.
Nikolas moved away, finally allowing me to breathe. He began to shower my neck with kisses, hitting all of my sensitive areas. I covered my mouth with my hand to prevent anyone from hearing me. I could feel his lips smile against my skin. A sudden wet sensation sent shivers down my body. His tongue moved from under my chin to my chest, his fingers pulling my collar down to reveal more skin.
I grabbed onto the back of his cape, panting. I finally managed to get my words out. "Wait," I grunted.
Nikolas hummed as he sucked on my skin.
"Where's Nikolas?"
Nikolas instantly froze. I narrowed my eyes as I heard a low chuckle.
"You're smarter than I thought." The imposter grinned, immobilizing my body against the barrier.
Suddenly, I felt the sharp prodding of his fangs on my neck. With all of my strength, I grabbed his throat to push him away, but he yanked my hand off.
"Let's see how good you taste." said the stranger as his teeth started to pierce my skin.
I was about to scream for help until something splashed on the fake Nikolas.
The real Nikolas stood behind us with an empty glass in one hand and the other with a full glass. The imposter turned to Nikolas and scowled.
"Get the hell away from him, Zaros."
The vampire transformed back to his normal self. He began speaking in a foreign tongue. I assumed it was the language vampires speak.
Nikolas's eyes began to glow red as he responded to him in the same tongue, the glass cup in his hand shaking with fury. Zaros frowned and slowly moved away from me. The vampire grabbed onto Zaros's collar, his fangs bared and his nostrils flaring. Nikolas replied to Zaros, the words escaping his mouth sounded rough. Listening to the two of them argue sounded like snakes hissing at one another.
Zaros continued to speak, his golden eyes glaring at me through his masquerade mask. Nikolas sternly said something in a voice laced with rage. Whatever he said made Zaros humph. Zaros spoke one last time before pulling his cape around him, vanishing in a puff of smoke.
Nikolas put the glasses down on a granite bench near the wall and trotted up to me. He cupped my face with his hands, finally speaking in a language I could understand. "Did he hurt you?"
My eyes widened as the realization came over me. DAMMIT I GOT ANOTHER KISS STOLEN FROM ME! I screamed internally. I shook my head. "Well, he did kiss me."
Nikolas's eyes shot wide. "Kissed you?"
I nodded, rubbing the back of my neck.
He looked at my disheveled clothes and became angered at the sight of someone else's marks on me.
"I thought it was you at first, so I didn't stop him," I muttered.
"What made you realize it wasn't me?" Nikolas asked as he fixed the collar of my tailcoat.
I lifted my left hand to show the ring he gave me. In his presence, the ring softly glowed white. "When he was here, the ring didn't react." I softly smiled. "His acting was terrible. He smiled a lot more than you do."
Nikolas looked to the side, appearing embarrassed. He let out a deep sigh. "I can never leave you by yourself, can I?" said Nikolas. "I haven't learned my lesson the first time."
"I guess not." I sat down on the bench, reaching for the drink.
Nikolas joined me on the bench, sitting on my left. "Are you sure you're alright?" He said as he dusted off my clothes.
I nodded. "I've calmed down."
The vampire nodded as he moved back, still staring at me.
"Hey, Nik, I need to ask you something."
"Yes?" Nikolas softly responded. "What is it?"
"Well, lately I've been thinking. I realized we haven't done anything to progress our relationship, so I think we should-"
"Break up?"
I blinked. I blinked again. I blinked multiple times before stammering, "B-break up?"
"Is there a reason why you want to break up?" Nikolas's voice sounded concerned. "Please tell me."
"Wait, wait, BREAK UP?"
Nikolas nodded. "I’m your boyfriend."
EXCUSE ME? I screamed internally. I put my hands on my head. "Hold on, this whole time I thought we were just friends ‘talking’, not boyfriends."
Nikolas tilted his head. "Does that mean you want us to be that instead?"
"No, no!" I disagreed. "To me, it felt like we weren't an official couple yet, especially since we haven't called each other boyfriend and boyfriend…" I trailed off.
Nikolas raised a brow. "For an entire month, you thought we weren't dating?"
"YES!"
Nikolas scratched at his temple. "Technically we haven't officially confirmed our relationship."
I nodded in agreement.
"In that case," he locked eye contact with me, reaching for my hand. "Would you like to be my boyfriend?"
Almost spitting out my drink, I looked at him with wide eyes. The vampire watched me with eager eyes, waiting for my response.
I put the glass cup on the other side of me and turned back to him. My cheeks began to turn red as I nodded.
For the first time, I saw Nikolas smile widely with his fangs. This inexpressive vampire was smiling because of me.
I pulled him into my embrace feeling overjoyed. I leaned my head on his shoulder, happily being held by my boyfriend. Nikolas rubbed my back with his right hand, his other hand placed gently on my hip. The vampire moved back and put his hand on my face. I leaned forward, allowing him to move in as well. I felt my lips brush against his right as we heard footsteps coming from the opening.
I quickly pushed Nikolas away to see who it was. There was a group of girl ghouls talking and walking to the balcony's edge. Right behind those girls were Kazu and Ryunosuke. The two of them turned right and saw Nikolas and me on the bench.
"There you two are!" Kazu beamed. "We were wondering where you guys went."
I turned to Nikolas who went right back to being his usual cold self and a bit irritated as well.
"I wanted to cool off on the balcony," I replied to Kazu.
Nikolas stood up. "I'll be back, I'm going to grab another drink."
I nodded as I watched him walk away. I turned to see both Ryunosuke and Kazu staring at me.
Kazu leaned in and began to sniff me. He moved away and shook his head at Ryunosuke. "Ew, I smell that guy on him, Ryu-chan."
Ryunosuke's eyes narrowed into slits. "The next time I see that asshole I'm going to curse his balls to shrivel off."
"Who are you guys talking about?" I asked.
Ryunosuke recollected himself and crossed his arms. "The guy who was just with you? That was Zaros."
That's what Nikolas called him.
“How did you know he was here?” I questioned.
“Kazu saw ‘Nikolas’ go out on the balcony while another Nikolas went to grab drinks.”
"He's bad news!" Kazu growled. "He's the one who got into a fight with Niky."
"Is that when Nikolas got suspended?" I said as I grabbed my cup.
Ryunosuke pushed his hair back as he nodded. "For a vampire who has lived as long as him, he should've known better than to get into a fight with another student." He shook his head. "He nearly got expelled for that." The wizard glanced at me. “Did anything else happen?”
I turned away. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The skeptical wizard raised a brow. “Speaking of which,” Ryunosuke said, “where did he go?”
Kazu’s body began to tremble as his left ear twitched. I could hear him whimper before sprinting back into the ballroom.
“Kazu what's wrong?” I called out.
Ryunosuke and I moved to the doorway and saw Kazu bolting out the other side of the room.
