I really love when it’s sunny. When the light glimmered off the water and shimmered on the flower fields. I had been camping by this lake for the summer and it was gorgeous! Lots of sunlight trees and flowers! Then one day I noticed a slight shift in the air. A gentle stirring in the nature of the place. I went down by the far end of the lake where the river started and heard a noise. I rounded a corner and saw a little girl. I stepped on a twin and she whipped her head around, her halo of long golden hair swirling around her. She looked at me like I was going to eat her and sprinted away.
“HEY COME BACK! IT’S OK!” I sprinted after her. I could see glimmers of gold through the trees. I turned around a boulder and she was gone. “Hello? Hey if you can hear me its ok. My name is Skya and I won’t hurt you” I knew the girl was hidden listening just like I knew she was the reason for the shift. “If you need help I am camping on the far side to the lake on the tree line. Good bye” I walked away.
I arrived back at my camp thinking about how it was nearly time to move on and what could have happened to that girl. The world is a dangerous place and if she comes from one of the Old Metrocities, well, it couldn’t have been pretty. That is why I stick to the mountains and wild valleys they are the safest they have been ever since the Exev in the year 15. Well over half of the human race died off. Only the ones used to going hungry lived. That is part of why Amerca is one of the world’s safest regions. Most of the Genetics died off in the First Winter and most of the human population before that. All that is populated now are the Metrocities, York, Chigo, Lo Angelo, and Mimi, those cities contain over half of the remaining humans on earth. But they are dark violent places full of the worst that humanity has to offer, but, the worst is all that can survive.
The next morning I awoke to the sound of something creeping thorough my campsite. Careful not to alert the intruder I slid myself out of my bedroll and crept up to them. I reach out and grabbed their arm. They whipped around and I saw the little girl trying to escape. “Hey its ok please calm down I won’t hurt you. I am going to let go now but don’t try to run.” I let go and she collapsed to the ground “its ok my name is Skya what is yours?” She peered up at me with tearful eyes. “my name is Evsie please don’t hurt me I’m sorry!’ Evsie started sobbing “Hey its ok please calm down I just want to help you can you tell me what happened?” Evsie sniffled “you won’t hit me?” I nodded “I-I’m from Chigo and – and I ran away cause they hit me and hurt me I was so scared and I thought they are coming after me.” She cried harder than ever. “Whoa it’s ok! You can come with me! I promise you will be safe with me.” Evsie looked at me like that was the last thing that I could have said. She agreed, I put her to bed, and watched the sun rise…
