The tall walls of Ackley's loomed in front of me as I walked towards the main gate. There was a big fancy 'A' engraved on the gate, the doors swung open and all the kids who were gathered by the entrance started to file into the grounds. We all walked over to the most direct building where a guy with a megaphone was.
"Attention!" He announced in a firm voice. "Welcome to Ackley's, as you know this is a very high-reputation school. As such there are a few ground rules we need to get out of the way. First off students of the opposite sex are not permitted to be in each others dormitories, Girls to the left, boys to the right.." He started listing off all the other generic rules that you'd have in a private school. I was about to snooze off when he spoke in a graver tone. "But the last and most important rule that must, by all means, be followed, is that no one, staff or student, enters Room 13." That caught me off guard. There was murmurs throughout the crowd about that last rule.
"Room 13? How cheesy, it's probably some stupid ghost story." The guy to the right of me said. I glanced over at him. Long, pitch black hair with a red streak in the front partially covered his eyes, which were a blood red.
"You never know it could be real." I suggested. He fixed his eyes on me and I got the feeling that he could see right through me.
"I just don't believe in that 'paranormal' shiz is all."
"Me neither, but still we might just be pessimistic." I shrugged. He smiled.
"That could be the case, or were just smarter than the lot."
"There's that too I guess." I grinned.
"I'm Vix." he held out his hand, which was wrapped in gauze up to his elbow.
"Sapphire." We shook hands briefly. Vix noticed my stare at his bandages.
"Just a mishap with a knife when I was helping make dinner the other day." He rolled his eyes. I nodded, amazed at the fact that I'd actually met someone this early.
"Students can head to their dormitories now." The megaphone guy said. A woman and man both in suits came out to lead us to our rooms.
"See you later then." I waved bye to Vix.
"Definitely." He went over to the guys and I went with the girls.
As I entered the girls dorm I felt a cozy warmth spread to my fingertips. It was a nice dorm, you wouldn't expect it from the fancy exterior of the building at all.
"Be ready to head down for dinner at 6:00, ladies!" The lady said as she shut the door behind her. A warm fire was already crackling in the fireplace by some armchairs and couches lined up nicely. I went upstairs to get a bit of my unpacking done before dinner. Vix seemed like a pretty okay guy to me I thought while hanging up some of my clothes. There was something a bit different about him though, which struck me as odd because I was not sure what it entirely was. Or if it was good or bad in that matter.
