Olivia’s POV
The atmosphere in the warehouse was awkward. When I woke up the next morning, Nathan had been patched up and caught on what’s been happening or rather what has not been happening.
For some reason Mel’s has been giving me her signature death glare all morning, making me lose my appetite for breakfast. Jonathan fucked off the god knows where in the middle of the night again, making me question his loyalty. Jeremy still wasn’t talking to me and Jason was still Jason, an annoying asshole. Thomas has kept to himself and watched from the sideline, which wasn’t helping one bit.
I had to somehow inspire energy into my small resistance team, otherwise it looks like I will doing this crazy mission on my own. Breathing in deeply I slapped my palm against the coffee table, silencing the room with an echo.
“Nathan, status report”
“I’m numb but I can still help”
“I really hope you have something useful for me this time and if I find out your withholding something again, it will just add to the list of reasons for me to kill you. Got it?”
“Yes ma’am. Jackson’s still manufacturing the drug, well his version of the drug. It’s what all the Red Hawk agents are on, including myself”
“What about Jackson?”
“I don’t think he’s on what we are on. I think he’s on a different strand, one he made himself”
“I think that’s what he injected into me. But what was the point of putting a new drug into me?”
“The Red Hawk drug is very addicting. I will last a few days without it, but because I was injured I will most likely crack soon”
“How is it any different from the Cobra’s one?”
“I actually have no idea”
“I do”
I looked up to my father with a confused look on my face. Now was the time he decided to speak up. Has he been withholding information from me too? Maybe he has, knowing full well I would never hurt him. Well he’s right to one degree. I would never lay a single hand on my father but that doesn’t mean I won’t order someone else to do the touring for me. He holds too much faith in me.
“How?”
“My late wife took a lot more information than you thought. The difference in how they both sides take it. The Cobra’s was a single needle on the birthday of every agent. The ingredients were strong enough for the effects to last the full year but the compound was weak enough that another drug could cancel out the single dose and then the agent will no longer be affected. The Hawks approached differently. They ingest it daily. It’s in everything, the vitamins tablets they take every morning. It’s in the water they drink, the food they drink and the air they breathe at night. Because of the everyday abuse, the compound became stronger and stronger and nothing could beat it down”
“But not all of the Hawk agents took it every single day”
“Well Killian did say it did depend on what program you were put into. If went straight into field duty, you took it every day. If you were mainly in headquarters, you took it every other day. If you were in the school program, you took it every week. But it still didn’t matter what program you were in, if you took it for long enough, your body will start to depend on it”
Frowning I looked at Nathan wondering how the hell he is still alive. I didn’t ask him to come with me all those years ago and if I had known the severity of the drug, I would not have asked him to follow me. Nathan’s eyes caught mine and the small amount of weakness that they showed. He limped towards me and held my hands into his. For a moment, all this was just a tiny problem and he was my partner again.
“Are you going to be alright? If I had known you were going to have to go back on the drug I would have never sent you on that mission”
“I’m fine for now Oli. We got through it once and we’ll get through it again. Now let’s plan this attack. I’m itching to kill someone"
