ZOOTOPIA TANK POLICE
Capítulo 3: The encounter
Judy looked down on the road cop suit. The bright orange colors seemed to hurt her eyes.
“Well, Judy, let's hand out fines.”
The rabbit's good mood almost gave way to the parking meter control vehicle, which looked like a toy before her eyes, and what's worse, unlike her previous fast and reliable police motorcycle, her new car was extremely slow and the engine vibrated a lot, not with the power of a good accelerator, but with the pitiful agony of a chunk of garbage.
“Ag, what a humiliation," Judy said aloud to no one in particular as she looked in the rearview mirror and clenched her fist, "cursed I will not be defeated, I will not give them the pleasure of seeing me quit. Come on Judy, you can!”
It was a funny thing, however, the fact of handing out fines made the young rabbit feel like a hidden pleasure and encouraged her for the rest of the day.
.
.
Leaving the police station, Duke Roedriguez and Nick Wilde were escorted by a huge rat.
“Well, Mr. Roedriguez, if you are subject to police abuse, don't hesitate to ask for my services," said the rat lawyer.
“Don't worry, Mr. Perales, I'll call you if there's a problem," answered the weasel, and then the rat smiled at him with his yellowish teeth and then left.
“Hey Roedriguez," said Nick, "couldn't your lawyer sue the police for the treatment they gave you?”
“What else would I have liked, but with my file it would have been impossible. He just got an agreement that they'd clean up my file a little bit.”
“Well, that's something. Anyway, let's go see Finnick.”
“What does that desert fox dwarf want?”
“No idea, look, over there is Flash, the fastest sloth of all Zootopia.”
“Only in his sports car, Nick, only in his car.”
The little predators waved to the sloth as they did not want to waste hours waiting for an answer. Once inside, Flash stepped on the gas and in a matter of minutes he reached Zootopia's naturist life centre.
“What's up, my good friends of the wave” Yax the Yak the hippie wave greeted them, while a lot of flies came and went from his head and neck fur.
“Are we all set?” The fox asked.
“Ready my friend, big friend, best friend” he replied and then the group entered the naturist centre.
Finnick was leaning on a high lectern and glanced at Nick, who was snickering and laughing.
“I couldn't find a smaller podium!” shouted the little light beige fox.
“And how many phone books did you have to stand on?” the reddish orange fox mocked him.
“Fuck you, Nick! Well, if we're done kidding ourselves, let's get down to business.”
Flash was about to ask something, but fortunately Roedriguez beat him to it.
“Yeah, tell us what we're doing here.”
“As everyone knows, the band of Buajaja came to Zootopia. This is a problem, that eco-terrorist is going to ruin our whole business.”
“Wait a minute, don't tell me you want to go up against the bad-looking pig," suddenly said Nick, who looked worried.
“Don't worry Nick, I know about your mother and her unexpected visit from those two cats who work for Buajaja. I already sent your mother to another town, to Bertha's parents' house, the elephant.”
Bertha, the elephant was the grumpy yoga instructor at the naturist center and was known to be a female weapons taker.
“Hey, you're taking a lot of credit, Finnick!” Nick growled at him.
“Didn't you tell me, Nick, that your mother wanted to visit Trumpetland? Well, Bertha went to visit her parents and I pretended to be you on the phone. I told her she could go to Trumpet Land and stay at a good friend's house for a while. As you can see, it's all taken care of.”
“Next time let me know Finnick... or I don't answer.”
An awkward silence settled in, but Flash raised his hand to the horror of everyone.
“You better tell us what you're planning to do, boss," said Yax, the hippie yak.
“Don Corleone will not be so calm with the presence of that pig Buajaja, there will surely be a gang war. I plan to take advantage of the present chaos and turn our band into the most evil in Zootopia.”
Nick and the other members had their doubts but in the end they were convinced by Finnick and withdrew from the site.
Seeing himself alone, Finnick pulled a little picture of Gazelle, the singer, from his wallet.
“In your interview you said that you liked bad guys, well my dear Gazelle, when I become the baddest villain in Zootopia you will surely fall in love with me. Until then, wait for me, my beautiful one.”
.
.
As they left the naturist center, the weasel saw how a rabbit was handing out fines and had looked at Flash's sports car.
“Hey, Nick, that fines lady's headed this way.”
“Don't worry, Roedriguez, let me handle it," said the fox and a smile on his side was drawn on his snout.
Judy's car was so slow and the red sports car was so close, that the rabbit decided to go on foot to give it a fine, of course, before she had to wait for the traffic light to give the pedestrians who were already piling up to cross to the front sidewalk.
The red light at the traffic light told the drivers to stop, while the pedestrian signal went off.
It was rush hour and many animals were heading for their daily destinations. Judy was worried because she couldn't move fast because of the crowd and feared that the owner of the sports car would get into the car and leave before she would give him a fine. It was because her five senses were focused on seeing the red car, which she did not see a fox trip her up.
"Um, for a bunny, she's a beauty," Nick thought. "I'd rather touch her fluffy little tail than trip her, but friends come first. Sorry, little ears girl, this is not your day."
"But what the...!" Judy thought as she saw her face heading for the asphalt.
“Ouch... What happened?”
Judy paid attention to her ears and heard a fox laughing under his mask, as well as a couple of passers-by reproaching him with their gaze, well, with sideways glances as they did not dare to confront the fox head-on.
“Hey you, wait!” The police shouted at him as she got up from the ground and quickly headed for the fox, cutting him off.
“Hey, pretty bunny, how can I help you?”
“You, you just made fun of a police officer!” She shouted, as she unzipped her road uniform and showed him her badge.
Nick's mocking look disappeared in a second, but he knew not to panic.
“You cute bunny bunny, a police officer?” Nick told her, keeping his smile on his side which she couldn't see because of the biological protection mask he was wearing.
“Did you call me cute? Just so you know, you're disrespecting me, and for that I have every right to stop you.”
“Yeah, and where are your handcuffs? Come on, show them to me, and what about your gun?”
“Emmm, I... I didn't get it, because...”
“You see, you're not a real cop, if you have any complaints about the way I walk, call a real cop, of course I know there's no law against crooked walking or being a joker.”
“I'm a real cop, I'm only on roadside duty as a test!”
“So you're on trial? As far as I know, you're a cop or not, there's nothing like a probation period. You better get back to handing out fines, bunny, and stop pretending to be something you're not.”
“You're not just gonna walk away!”
“Sorry bunny, green light.”
The fox took a surprising leap backwards and when Judy wanted to follow him, the cars were already standing between her and Nick.
“Hey bunny, don't get in the way of traffic!” A driver shouted at her and Judy had to go back to the sidewalk, when she tried to see the disrespectful fox, he was entering the red sports car, which accelerated on the spot.
Judy watched helplessly as the red sports car drove away, and all the good spirits with which she had played her part in handing out fines were gone.
.
.
When Judy returned to her apartment, things hadn't improved. A call from her parents plunged her deeper into sadness and she decided to fall asleep.
“Tomorrow has to be a better day.”
Judy's hope was futile, as the next day she was presented with a monotonous task and the offending drivers kept reminding her of her whole family.
“And I'm only on the second day.... I'm not gonna make it.”
“A soda?” She heard someone next to her offer her a soda. It was Key Key Keyhearth, the handsome black cat who defended her against Bogo when she arrived at the tanker police.
“Sub-Commander... uh, I mean Key... Can I call you Key?”
“Sure, if you'll let me call you by your first name Officer Hoops.”
“Hey, yeah, sure, no problem.”
“Are you all right? In the distance I saw you a little discouraged.”
“It's nothing, it's just the heat.”
“Don't worry, the week's gonna go by so fast. Besides, look, I brought you a soda in the meantime.”
“How thoughtful Key, thank you very much.”
“You're welcome, that's what partners are for.”
“Well, I don't think I can call the tanker police partners.”
“Don't worry, in time they'll accept you, I didn't have it easy at first either.”
“Thank you very much, Key.”
“Don't worry Judy, and keep working, those fines won't be handed out by themselves," said the black cat and went to patrol the streets.
.
.
Night had fallen and Judy was returning to the tanker police to give her report to Chief Bogo.
"Hell, I don't understand why I have to go to Bogo's, after all, the fines are supposed to be reported to traffic and roads to Chief Totate. All this is but an excuse for that buffalo to humiliate me every night."
Judy entered the police station, took off her mask and then went straight to the tanker police hangars. That place was all a pandemonium.
“What's going on?”
“Oh, Judy," said Key, "it's Buajaja's band. He is a dangerous eco-terrorist who once operated in New Port and has now decided to pursue his criminal activities in Zootopia.”
“Yes, I know who Buajaja is. I used to live in New Port, remember.”
“Oh, yes, well, Buajaja and his cronies have just robbed a private hospital. The S.W.A.T. guys cornered him, but then two of the pig's henchmen broke the blockade. There were a lot of casualties from SWAT forces and they asked for our help.”
“JA, elite police forces, don't make me laugh! Those faggots are always crying when the going gets tough and they call us for help! Well, my boys, get in the tanks and go ahead!”
“Sir,” said Judy, with a glimmer of hope and determination in her eyes, “give me a tank, please.”
First the look of surprise and then the laughter of Bogo and his men implied to Judy that she would not participate in that mission.
“Sir, I think that when it comes to Buajaja's band, we should count on all the men available," suggested Key.
“Forget it, Key, the cute bunny's still green, you and her better fix my old Ran Arachne tank.”
With these words Bogo closed the conversation and together with his other men and tanks, left the hangars to face the fearsome Buajaja.
The trail of dust was slowly fading, but Judy continued to see her as her right leg moved very quickly against the ground, in a clear display of frustration.
CONTINUARÁ…
That Bogo is a jerk, vote and comment to get him fired.
