It was nearly four in the morning when they finally tracked down who and where my brother was. I had to give a statement about what happened to me after I showered and put on some new warm clothes, they were eager to try and reunite the both of us, so was I but I didn’t know if he would be. All that I heard of him was a note put through my window just as I was going to bed saying that he had a new family who looked after him well and he was still able to practice acrobatics as they were trapeze artists in a circus.
Apparently he wasn’t with that family anymore he was with a rich man who adopted him about a year before that’s why it was so hard to find out where he was. When they finally found out where he was they called where he was living and told his carer about me and said he would bring down my brother to see me and for the carer to discuss something this the commissioner.
It was about half an hour later when the man and my brother arrived, I was at the police station by then, they thought it would be better to have an environment that we both didn’t think bad things from. I was sitting in the corner of the room on a small wooden stool watching the room around me, everything was happening at once with cases coming in, information being shouted around and people either being dragged inside in handcuffs or walking out, I’m surprised that anyone could think in this environment but I guess they are used to it.
I was just about to try and find the commissioner when I saw him, creeping into the room I recognised him straight away, I couldn’t believe my eyes it was like it was only yesterday when I helped him get out.
He was searching looking around the crowd of people until he finally saw me and our eyes met relief washed over me and it look like it did for him as well, his shoulders relaxed and a small smile started to appear, the cheeky one he always does. I stood up and started to advance towards him, him going towards me, swerving in between each person that broke the line connecting the two of us back together we finally met in the centre of the room of chaos.
“Hey big sis”
“Hey little bro”
With that we both engulfed each other in a bear hug not caring about the people now watching us as we stood starting to cry not wanting to break apart what we have, not wanting to be apart, not wanting to lose each other again.
Even after three years of not being together we were still as close as if we never left, once the hug ended we wiped our tears away which were streaming down both our faces, Jim took us into a privet room where we started to talk over what has been happening to Robbie when he left...
“After I escaped I tried to get to the police to tell them about mum and what she was doing, to try and get you out, and well when I finally found someone when I was wondering through town on my way to the police station I thought I would go talk to him instead, he didn’t believe me... he thought I was joking and told me to go back to whoever was looking after me.
I didn’t really know what to do after that I just walked around Gotham it felt weird not having to worry about what I’m doing. It was about six that night when I found out that the circus was in town so I went to it, I know how you have always wanted to go to the circus...” we both smiled at each other then looked at our hands, we always did this when we were nerves or worried I don’t know why, we just do.
“Well that night I sneaked into the tent and watched the show, they were amazing with clowns, animals and even acrobats I couldn’t look away from them and well when the show finished they packed away and left... I hid on the train I didn’t want to leave them and well I didn’t really have anywhere else to go.
It wasn’t until the morning when they found me, Mr Haley the owner of Haley’s circus was not happy, he was used to people running away from home to try and join his circus but not someone my age and when I told him about mum he told me that I was welcome to the circus... there was two people there they were an act called the ‘Flying Graysons’ they adopted me into their family, they said they always wanted a son but could never have children. After a year I was a justified acrobatic in the ‘Flying Graysons’ all of those gymnastic lessons paid off in the end and well I loved it they were so generous and were my family until one day... there was this man, he wasn’t supposed to be at the circus, he was demanding money of Mr Haley but he wouldn’t give him any... the man told Haley that he would regret it and well, later that night when the performance was on... he cut the rope... my parents they both... they both fell... they both died.”
His eyes were streaming with tears I could tell that they met something to him they were the parents which he never had... well we both never had really but he lost them and I didn’t even know them.
“After that I didn’t know what to do... people at the circus said that they would look after me but Haley was worried that he might come back and try and kill me as well, so Mr Wayne here...” motioning towards A tall man standing in the corner just watching us. “...he said that he would look after me and he did, later turning into adoption and well I have been with him ever since.”
At this point I didn’t know what to say really I was shocked really, how could he go through something like that when he had just get away from an abusive mother... sometimes you wonder what this world is like and how things like this can happen... I guess you can never truly know someone until you’re in a life and death situation.
