“Maiden Mary don’t let them in!” I look up from my desk situated directly across from Professor. A year has passed since I have arrived in Germany to live with Professor and he after learning that I’ve never gone to school has taken it upon himself to give me lessons every day in his study.
“Of course, Monsieur,” Maiden Mary whispered before slamming her right foot down and twisting it. I felt the air in the house shift as all of the locks of all of the doors and windows lock themselves at the same time. I watch Maiden Mary gently set down the tray for afternoon tea on a small table next to Professor’s large mahogany desk and begin her routine of fixing Professor’s usual cup of tea. Maiden Mary except for the chocolate workers at the factory five miles east of the mansion is the only other person allowed on his property. Professor surprisingly is a very private person and so far Maiden Mary is the single worker for the house cleaning, cooking, and making tea for Professor at odd times of the night and she is even more reserved than Professor only speaking when spoken to with her thick Italian accent.
“Who are ‘them’ ?” I ask Professor after Maiden Mary leaves the room.627Please respect copyright.PENANALH42jmo5OW
“An acceptable friend of mine and a troublemaker.” I’m not surprised by his vagueness and let my powers flow easily through me to sense the air around the mansion to find the two to figure people. Astoundingly, although Professor doesn’t share the same gift as me, he has taught me a great deal on how to use my special power in various situations to my advantage and one of them is to use the air to sense actions of people far away. Much of it is for simple uses that can be helpful when around the house, but feeling my powers increasing I have adapted to using the techniques for other purposes and it is through these other means that I instigate a fight from the two mysterious visitors. A loud explosion shakes the house and Professor groans setting down his papers giving me an annoyed expression which I return with a raised eyebrow. He should know after a year of living with me that I would do anything to know who these visitors. They are the first to come through Professor’s protective shield around his property to keep out those without gifts except for the factory workers.
