"He told you WHAT?!?" Jaime said into the phone.
"He just told me that he had a lot of fun with me yesterday and he said that if he has a choice between you as a lab partner and me as a lab partner, he'll choose me because i'm more fun." I explained to Jaime as I stood at the bus stop the next morning.
"Hurtful that he doesn't want to be my partner. Nah, just kidding. That's so cute~ But why didn't you call me yesterday and tell me sooner!?"
"I dunno. I guess I....forgot?"
I looked over to see Cyr walking up to me. "Hey, Jonah."
I smiled at Cyr then put my phone on speaker. "Say hi to Jaime." I whispered to him.
"Hey, Jaime." Cyr said.
"Hey, Cyr." She greeted. "Well, Jonah, i'll let you two love birds go."
My eyes widen as I couldn't believe that Jaime said that right in front of Cyr. I glanced at Cyr to see his reaction before quickly taking my phone off speaker.
"Jaime, I can't believe you said that!" I said to her.
"What?"
"My phone was on speaker..."
"Oh. Not my fault your phone was on speaker. Anyways, i'll see you at school." She then hung up.
I sighed then quickly looked around at the other kids to see if they heard Jaime talk about me and Cyr. It didn't seem like it since two girls with blonde hair were busy chatting away, some dude with a beanie was listening to music with his headphones and another girl with glasses was reading a book. I sighed in relief as I shoved my phone into my pocket.
Then, Cyr chuckled. I glanced at him, wondering what was so funny.
"Sorry. Jaime sure is something huh?"
I slowly nodded then looked away. Cyr didn't really say anything else about what Jaime said. I wonder...
Finally, the bus pulled up. I got on the bus with Cyr and we both sat together again. My mission today is asking Cyr if he's straight. Since I couldn't do it yesterday. And hopefully, I can get him alone this time.
***
First period went by with a breeze. Me and Cyr talked a little bit but it wasn't much. Of course, I had the chance to pass him a note and ask him if he's straight but I was afraid that Mrs. Miller was going to see and then take the note up and read it in front of the class then everybody would know that i'm gay! I definitely couldn't let that happened.
Me and Cyr met up with Jaime after first period and we all walked over to Mr. Withers Biology class. I walked with Jaime and Cyr to their seats and stood in front of their table while they sat down on their stools. We all laughed and talked until it was time for me to head to MY second period class.
"Bye, Jonah."
I smiled dreamily as Cyr waved goodbye to me.
"Bye..." I waved back as I walked backwards and bumped into Mr. Withers. I nervously smiled at Mr. Withers then waved goodbye again to Cyr with a smile as I headed towards the door and ran into it. I didn't realize that the door had been closed. I took a step backwards and rubbed my face then smiled at Cyr before leaving the classroom.
"That was terrible. Smooth move, Jonah." I said outloud to myself as I closed the classroom door back then started to head to my class.
***
"Are you...straight?" I said nervously.
"That was terrible." Jaime said.
"Hey! I'm trying!" I sighed.
Jaime is currently helping me ask the big question. Not the 'will you marry me?' question but the 'are you straight or gay?' question. THAT big question. We both stood outside the cafeteria door while we waited for Cyr to come from gym class.
"Don't be nervous. Just ask him. Or do you want me to ask him?"
I quickly shook my head. "I need to ask him. I want to ask him myself."
"Good then let's go over it again. Take a deep breath, relax your body and just say it."
I nodded then followed Jaime's advice. I took a deep breath and let it out then I relaxed the tension in my shoulders and neck. I felt better now.
"Okay. Cyr, are you..."
"Hey, guys."
I jumped when I heard Cyr's voice.
"What are we talking about?" He asked.
"Jonah wants to ask you a VERY important question. VERY important. I'll be inside and save us a table." Jaime said then rushed into the cafeteria, leaving me and Cyr alone.
"What do you want to ask me?"
I licked my lips and started to feel my stomach turn into knots.
"Well...see...the thing is...you know i'm...gay...right?"
Cyr nodded. "Yeah. I don't see a problem with that. You like whoever you want to like."
I slowly nodded. "Okay well...if you knew a guy that wanted to ask his friend if he's straight, should he?"
Cyr smiled. "Yeah. I don't see a problem with that. The dude would just have to find the right moment because that question isn't easy to ask as it's not easy to answer."
I gulped nervously and licked my lips again, nodding.
"Why? Are you wanting to ask someone if they're straight?"
I nodded.
"Just ask them. Make sure you two are alone, though and just ask him. Just say, 'are you straight or gay?' and that's it. See how simple it is?"
I nodded again. Cyr's advice sounded so simple and easy but it sounds easier in my head than to actually do.
"Let's go inside and eat." Cyr said then opened up the cafeteria door and walked inside.
I sighed as I cursed myself. This had been the PERFECT opportunity and I blew it. I sadly walked inside the cafeteria and found Jaime at our table already.
"Hey, did you ask him yet? What did he say?"
I took my bag off and plopped down in a chair across from Jaime.
"I couldn't ask him. He knows that I want to ask someone if they're straight or not but he doesn't know that I want to ask him."
Jaime nodded. "You need to ask him like, right now."
Then, Cyr walked up with his tray of food and sat down in between me and Jaime.
"So, Jonah, who's the dude you want to ask the question to?"
I gulped and glanced at Jaime.
"He's...a guy...in my class."
Cyr nodded. "Is he cute?" He teased.
"He's...absolutely gorgeous."
Cyr nodded again. "What do he look like?"
"He...has black hair...and green eyes..." I purposely left out the freckles part because I didn't want Cyr to know i'm talking about him.
"He sounds like he's the total package. Do you like him?"
I slowly nodded. "Yeah. A lot."
Cyr then smiled. "Then tell him. Tell him how you feel and if he doesn't like you-"
"I know. It's HIS loss." I finished Cyr's sentence. This was beginning to grow a lot more harder.
***
The rest of the day went by okay. I still couldn't ask Cyr the question and even if I wanted to, I couldn't because we haven't had any time alone since the beginning of lunch. Now we were on our way home. I stayed mostly quiet throughout the bus ride. I couldn't talk to Cyr right now. The bus finally let us off. Once the people that stands at our bus stop left, I decided to come right out and ask him.
"Cyr, are you straight?"
Cyr turned around and looked at me. I stood there and stared at him then spoke again.
"Are you...straight or gay?"
