“Jessica, did you have a good day today with Gaby?" My husband asked.
I went rigid.
Jessica frowned, which wasn't a good sign.
"I didn't at all," she scoffed.
I exchanged frustrated looks with my husband.
"What happened?" He asked coolly.
She sat up. "She wouldn't chat with me. When I tried she just walked off claiming I should get used to her terrible attitude towards me," she explained with a 437Please respect copyright.PENANArZKdzkvSsv
pained expression on her face.
I gasped, wondering what else she would add.
"I know she might be difficult but she would open up to you with time, OK?" My husband calmly assured her.
We both knew that was purely claptrap. Gaby wasn't that type of person. You could feel the coldness radiating from her at a distance.
I sighed, "Go to your room, Jenny."
She reluctantly agreed and went upstairs. My heart was heavy and I was trying hard not to cry. 437Please respect copyright.PENANANaBNS7YQiV
I faced my husband with mixed emotions. "What do we do? The treatment is purely not working."
I bit my lips trying hard not to cry. He looked at me with pain mirrored in his eyes.
Getting up from his seat, he came to where I was seated, pulled me up and held me in his arms. I couldn't take it anymore as hot tears rolled down my cheeks.
"Shuu. Don't cry, sweetheart." He cooed, rubbing his hands on my back in circles.
After three minutes, I managed to pull myself together. He held me a bit more until he was satisfied I was composed.
"You see why we need to send her to a boarding school. If she keeps staying with us, she would keep on snubbing people, with the mentality that she is secured in our love," he pointed out.
I sniffed. "I don't want her separated from normal people; it would only make things worse,” I kicked. “Can't she go to boarding school with normal people?" I queried sadly.
He thought about it for a while. "There is wisdom in what you've said."
I smiled at him. He gladly returned it and took my hands in his.
"We would get through this," he vowed.
I was reassured by his words and together we went inside.
GABRIELA'S P.O.V
I woke up to someone poking me in my ribs. "Uh... Uh!..." I screamed.
That person proceeded to laugh at me. And it annoyed me to no end. I looked towards the direction of the sound and it was my crazy parents.
"Mom... Dad... Why did you do that?"
"Just playing with you, silly," my dad said with a smile.
With that smile, I had the urge to smile back. I was always comfortable with them and no other person.437Please respect copyright.PENANAringyXrgnI
"Seriously, I don't like that," I grumbled, pouting as I hit my hand on the bed.
I saw my Dad look at me with a bemused smile. Did he think I was joking or what?
"Let's not talk much about that. There is a lot we need to talk about concerning your school."
It got my attention because my parents had grown serious. Inwardly, I prayed I will be home-schooled.
"What happened?" I asked nonchalantly.
My mom touched my hands and I jerked my hand off, 437Please respect copyright.PENANAEHR5Tndt7S
feeling scarred. I saw pain across her features. I didn't care, for I hated to be touched.
"Today is Saturday. You have two days to resume," my dad said carefully.
I frowned. "Get it over with, Dad," I said impatiently.
He looked at me with anger vibrating through him. "Don't talk to me like that again, young lady!" He took deep breaths and continued. "You are going to boarding school," he said with finality.
I looked at my Mom and Dad like they've signed my death sentence.
"I know it's sudden, but it's for your own good. We want you to make more friends and communicate with people," my mom said, wanting to reach my hand again but I wouldn't have that.
"Don't tell me that! You don't know what I want. Go away!" I screamed.
I turned my back to them as two fat tears rolled down from my eyes.
"Listen, I would help you pack what you need," my Mom said.
I heard the door close softly. How could they think I wanted this type of life? I hated people as it were and as a result had to bear being in the same room with them. This wasn't fair at all. I wish I could just die, but I couldn't bring myself to ending my life. Since they wanted this I would go, but they haven't heard the last of it.
I took my little book which served as my diary and scribbled all my feelings in it.
Monday came, and I was still giving my parents the cold shoulder. Everyone in the house could see that because I haven't eaten since Saturday morning. I watched as my Dad carried my suitcase to his car. I wished the earth to open up and swallow me.
"Let's go," my dad said bluntly.
I reluctantly sat at the back of the car as I waited for him to put the car in gear. We arrived at the school, and I scrambled out noisily and stood awkwardly by the car.
"I know it's hard for you, but trust your mom and me\ on this, OK?" he pleaded.
However, I held my lips firm and didn't reply. He paid my school and tuition fees and wished me good luck.
I lowered my face as I walked towards the hostel. Luckily, there was no one around because the lessons had begun.
I dropped my suitcase and sat down wishing I was anywhere other than there. I was not in the mood to go to school, so I decided to skip school attendance. I better skip than suffer the scars of people.
I took my book and started to doodle. I had fun doing that until I got bored. I looked around the hostel, wanting to know where I could hide to be alone from my peers.
I went to the backyard when I heard the words that stopped me cold.
