MADAME DORIS P.O.V
I sat down in my office with a positive attitude. For a week now, I have immersed myself in Gaby.
"Anulika! Anulika!" I screamed.
"Ma!" She answered.
I watched her run from the showroom where a customer was.
"I am here, ma."
I sighed. "What's the matter? Doesn't she like the cloth that you've been there for so long?" I queried, tapping my pen on the desk continuously.
"Ah madam, she is in love with the dress. She claimed it would fit her on the Valentine day." She gushed.
"Valentine's day? Valentine's day!!! When is it?" I started fussing with the calendar.
"Ma, it's on Saturday."
"This Saturday?" I asked amazed.
"Yes."
I was excited and nervous. This will have to proof to Gaby that we love her more than she can imagine.
"How much is this?"
I looked up to see the customer showing me a white dress dotted with pink flowers. She sure had exquisite taste.
"It's #7000," I told her firmly.
She turned the cloth in her hand, trying to detect if it was worth it.
"Is this right for Valentine's day?" She queried.
"It has to do with taste, that is if you love the material. And on a fair lady like you, this piece of beauty would do wonders," I psyched her.
But honestly, this cloth was just right for her.
"Are you sure?" She raised her brows at me.
"Of course," I said enthusiastically.
Still looking at the cloth, she said, "#7,000 is too much. Why don't you sell it for #5,000 for me? Make me your customer," She pouted.
"I am very sorry, but that's the last price. It's authentic material. Anyone who sees you that day will trip," I cajoled.
"OK, #5,500." She dropped the dress in Anulika's hand.
I shook my head and said, “no, I am sorry, it is too low."
I sat down on my chair as I perused the computer.
"I have tried. I know where they sell this stuff cheap," 503Please respect copyright.PENANAbgHHi9Bssp
the customer sighed.
I didn't relent. If I did, where was my gain? After all, I didn't pick it from the gutter. I just can't waste money in such a manner.
"Anu, go and check what that woman wants." I pointed to the woman that just entered the shop.
Anulika hurried off. I went back to sending my love a message, telling him about the Valentine issue.
The customer finally left my desk. I don't know where all these people dropped from. They just wanted things cheap.
"HONEY, SATURDAY IS VALENTINE DAY," I emailed him.
"Aunty, the woman that just came bought three gowns including the one the fair lady was fusing about," Anu said excitedly.
“That's good, I shared in her joy. Just then, my computer beeped, signalling a message. "Anu, go on," I 503Please respect copyright.PENANAYFzbgbOYwN
shooed her off.
"I will make it a memorable day for my two angels," Nonso replied.
I smiled at what I saw on the computer screen. Just two days to go.
GABRIELA'S P.O.V
I started at Saint Mary's school this week. It went a long way to show how my parents didn't play with 503Please respect copyright.PENANAZP90vByv2q
education.
I must say, this school was more bearable than at my previous school. We all had individual assignments that didn't give students much room for conversations. I was given ample time to be on my own. I could easily bunk people and they wouldn't bat an eyelid.
Today, I came back on time because of the Valentine day holiday. The boarders were also on their way home.
I unlocked the door, dumped my bag on the floor, and had a free fall on the sofa. Today was so hectic. 503Please respect copyright.PENANAvfW8hbDpXj
The nuns were so strict but at the same time kind. This amazed me. I, on the contrary, was never kind to anyone.
I knew now that something was wrong with me. I didn't want to believe it before, but I did now. I don't know when I slept off on all these thoughts.
"Gaby, wake up. We need to go to church," my mom cooed.
I didn't want to ever get up. I was enjoying the bliss. Then somebody shook me. My eyes sprang open as my breathing escalated. "I am awake!" I screamed.
"I am so sorry for frightening you," my mother said, holding me to her chest, which, to be sincere, was so uncomfortable to me.
"It's no big deal," I said, removing myself from her.
Thereafter, I ran into my room to deck myself up. I decided to wear a long white gown with a white scarf that wrapped my hair up and white and pink slippers to complement my outfit.
I hated going to church because of the crowd of people, but today I wanted to overcome such an attitude.
"Hurry up!" My mom shouted from downstairs.
"Just a minute!" I told her.
I came down and we went to Grace is Sufficient Mission. My mom parked and we got out. 503Please respect copyright.PENANApIF7koAxjv
I entered the half-full auditorium. It was a weekly service.
The pastor was talking with a few people, while ushers went about making sure things were in place. I sighted the choir practising.
"Mom, I would be right back."
"Where are you going?" She asked, stopping me in in tracks.
"Don't worry, I am coming, OK," I snapped as I walked off.
I went to one of the choristers. "Excuse me," I said shyly.
She looked at me, halting the lyrics she wanted to sing.
"Yes?"
"I would like to join the group," I voiced.
"You are a kid," she said with seriousness.
I tried to rein in my temper. 'Stupid humans' I reacted under my breath.
"Who can I speak to other than you?" I asked haughtily.
She frowned at me and was about to say something when someone touched her shoulder.
"What is the matter?" The man asked.
"I was just wondering if I could join," I spoke quickly.
"Let's see what you can do," he smiled at me.
I launched into Amazing Grace. All the choristers were enthralled as I sang sonorously. I inwardly beamed.
"Oh! My! This is the best I have heard so far. You shall begin today. Praise the Lord for your talent," the man said happily.
I nodded in appreciation. "Got to go back to my mom," I said.
"Sure."
I knew I was committing myself to torture, but I needed this leap of faith.503Please respect copyright.PENANAqKF1mxFvGk
