The voices were silent.
Madeline Abrahamson watched the garden.
She focused on the other girls, and boys, near the deep water. The stones were around the edge; the voices were whispers. 'Lady Margot's daughter was married', Lady Emmaline said.
'Really, such marriages are fraught with danger', Lady Natalie Lowe said.
'I heard Lady Charlotte's father was banished', Lady Margaret Shipp said.
'How humiliating', Lady Patricia Moore said.
