Chapter Twelve
'Elizabeth!'.
'Yes, Mother'.
'Dinner is ready'.
She nodded, and walked to the front door.
The rain started to fall, as she went inside.
As she did so, her mother was preparing to see her father, a soldier who was in the war; her eyes flickered on the warm fireplace. The darkness was long. The moon's glow in the red colored sky drew Elizabeth into the eeriness of the house. She was dressed in a black gown that she brought herself; she focused on her family, as they sat formally around the mahogany table.
'Mother! Where's Father?', Elizabeth asked her.
'Away, dear', Margaret answered.
'Away. He has been away for a year. And I haven't seen him'.
'That is so. Now, eat your pie, and vegetables. And tea', Margaret said.
'Yes, Mother', Elizabeth said.
