I was done arguing with her.

I just can’t deal with it anymore. At this point, this is her problem.
I aggressively walked across the driveway to the basketball hoop. I sat down, propped my body against it. I was mentally exhausted. And I still had to work on the project. I was sitting on the warm pavement for five minutes, just letting my mind wander.

A few minutes had passed, and I watched as a blue jeep pulled up. Immediately, Scott flew out. Out of nowhere, Allison ran from the house and jumped into his arms.

“Awwwww!” Lydia cried, trailing behind her while holding her phone up. I laughed but rolled my eyes, and continued on playing with the white laces on my black Converse. They were embroidered with flowers of red and yellow. That was why I had saved my money, and bought them. Plants strangely made me happy. They remind me that even in a world full of hatred and darkness, there is still beauty.

I could still sense Sydney. She leaned against the house, hiding in its shadow.

I closed my eyes. If I focused, I could hear everything that was going on around me. The light breeze, causing the sleeves of my sweatshirt to flap along with the forced air. The chatter from the inside of the house. An airplane flying overhead, the birds chirping, a bunny quietly trying to make its way across the road, a car lock, an insect flying past. And then my instincts kicked in, something was going to hit me. I held my hand up next to my face, and just I thought, something smacked into it. I grasped onto it instantly. It was light, but if I didn’t catch it, it would have smacked into my face and probably left a bruise. I opened my eyes to see someone standing in front of me. Just who I suspected.

“Damnit, I really thought I was going to get you this time.” He sighed

“You’re going to need to put in more effort than that.” I returned sarcastically. Knowing that it would never happen. Aunt Kate made me spend weeks training, on learning the specific skill.
He started to walk back over to his car when he gestured over to me.

“Pssst, come over here!! I got something in my car that I haven’t shown anyone.” He mischievously smiled. A spark of curiosity ignited inside of me.

“Stiles, it better not be a dead body.” I laughed, walking over.

I climb inside his car and he hands me a cup.

“Before I picked Scott up, I got you some coffee.” He chimed. I was genuinely surprised

“Wait- how did you know I was tired?” I gasped, spinning the cup around the inside of my hand.

“Um, I could just tell by the way you were talking on the phone.”
“It's probably cold by now,” he added

I wasn’t sure why, but the gesture felt overwhelmingly thoughtful.

“Oh no, oh my god. Stiles- thank you so much.” I responded, taking a big swig. I didn’t even care about the temperature. I cared about the act of kindness. I glanced up at him.

“Hey- um thank you for helping me at the end of English.” I paused, “When I dropped all my stuff. I didn’t realize how much crap was in there.” I joked. We laughed, but then again there was silence.

“You know, it happens to me too.” He replied. Looking away, breaking eye contact. There was another moment of stillness. Like the world was holding its breath. He knew exactly what he was implying, and so did I.

“I don’t really like to talk to anyone about it.” He stated. “But I just wanted to let you know, that you aren’t alone.” He smiled, weakly.

“I appreciate that you're telling me. Probably more than you think I do.” I acknowledged, abruptly touching the small of his back and instantly regretting it. He looked into my eyes, and I returned the gaze. We just sat there, motionless. Even if I wanted to look away, I couldn't. He was a magnet.
Then, there was a sudden knock on the window.

“Hey idiots, we’re about to start.” Allison giggled. There was movement behind her head. I watched as Sydney cautiously made her way around the house, to my front door. She walked in, making the impression that she had just arrived.
That one, is just built different.
