The next day, they found out that the camera in the girl’s restroom, on the first floor, wasn't working. Some girls had noticed it when one of them had, out of anger, unsuccessfully tried to break it and no reaction from the principal had followed. He mustn't have checked that camera yet, otherwise he would've realized that it wasn't recording anything, thought Mark. It was then easy for them to destroy the mic without it being noticed. That was how Rebecca and Kate had made up their plan to try to overthrow the principal. The room then became the only place where the students could speak, as long as they kept it a whisper, and release the pressure. They mostly talked about the identity of the killer. No one seemed to know who it was.763Please respect copyright.PENANAw1ChW4ztR0
“I don't think it's someone from the school,” Scott said
“But, they found a school clothing on Jenna's body.” someone replied
“So what ? It doesn't mean anything ! It could have been stolen.
“But the body was found in the room of the library where only students can go by using their Swipe card” another person said
“It must have been stolen too then ! Or... I don't know ! Personally, I believe that whoever did this is long gone. He knows he's being searched and he has left the state.”
The other people in the room started eying him warily.
“I mean... they should stop the experiment, they're not going to find the killer here.” said Scott, blushing “They should leave us in peace !”
Everyone agreed with him on this last statement and the subject was closed.
The principal took a sadistic pleasure in turning off the heating system room by room. Each day, the students had to change four or three times of room until, on the fifth day, the whole school fell into complete coldness. Ever since, their only moment of consolation was when they could go into the girl's restroom. They had to take turns in there because it was very small and they didn't want Mr. Smith finding out they were spending their time there.

That night, they came back to the cafeteria, once again. People were so exhausted that they were fast asleep. Except for Mark. He couldn't and didn't want to fall asleep. He kept having those nightmares and anxiety crisis and felt like he would never sleep peacefully again. As the room was filled with snoring, he walked to the second floor and sat, alone, on the benches around the statue of some guy who had donated a great amount of money to the school forty years earlier. He put his chin on his knees and closed his eyes. He was now starting to wonder what was happening in the outside world, something he had given little thought about until then. He had been so focused on the cameras. Why weren't people doing anything to get them out of here ? Did they still believe it was a good idea to keep them locked in ? They had been here for five goddamn days now ! And nothing had happen ! What more did they expect ? It was time for the Principal to acknowledge that his experiment wasn't working. Or actually it was. It was working way too much ! People were getting insane now, but no one had denounced themselves. Why wouldn't he... ? But maybe... ? A thought entered his mind and he opened his eyes suddenly. A thought he hadn't given much credit to earlier. But it seemed more and more credible any second. He got up and started walking around the corridor. What if people outside WERE protesting but the Principal kept them from coming to the school, somehow ? What if he wanted to keep them here ? What if he was actually enjoying it ? He seemed like the kind of sick bastard who could do that ! A creepy Big Brother ! Or worse ! What if he had lied to the parents ? What if he hadn't told them exactly what he was going to do with the students ? What if he had said they were going to a trip or something for a week ? Maybe a place without phone reception ? So many questions were running through Mark's brain now. He didn't know who and what he could trust anymore. The suspicions were slowly driving him crazy with fear. He wanted out of here now ! But what was he supposed to do ? What was he supposed to tell people ? He was afraid that anything he might say or do would put him on the list of the suspects. Shaking, he took a breath and calmed down. He was not going to tell anything to anyone. He would hang on for a few days until the experiment came to an end. Because it would, right ? It could not go on forever ?
