The first day went on agonizingly slowly and without any noticeable event. You could hear the cameras moving in the surrounding silence. As the day went by, everyone started to get used to the silence and the coldness in the room. When the night came, Mark felt himself drift into unconsciousness. He wasn't asleep but he wasn't totally awake either. He kept having weird dreams that mixed memories and elements from the last movie he saw (which was "Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D", Jenna had dragged him to see it). He was about to get yelled at by a pink bear with a disco haircut, standing on a cloud with a toothbrush in its mouth, for having stolen its bathrobe when a loud sound awoke him. He opened his eyes and looked around, trying to locate the source of the noise. It wasn't really difficult considering there was only one person standing in the middle of the room. It was Sean Kelly, one of the football jocks. Mark had never really talked to him but he seemed to be a nice guy.
"Everybody wake up" he shouted "I'm sick of this shit ! I don't care about those stupid cameras, I can talk whenever I want." There was a murmur of approbation "And I want the psycho, the asshole that put us into this shit to stand up and speak once and for all 'cause I'm so fucking tired of payin' for his crimes and..." He didn't get to finish his sentence as the sound of a gun being loaded was heard. Everyone was so busy listening to him that no one had heard the principal and the chief come in. The latter was holding Sean at gun point.
"So you don't want to play by the rules, young man ?" said the principal "How brave !" he let out a snicker as Sean didn't utter a word. He was visibly terrified. "Come on, young reckless, you're going to have a little chat with the chief and, if it's established that you're responsible for the murders, everyone will be freed." Mr. Smith stayed silent as the chief left with Sean, still pointing the gun at his head. "Alright" he said, once they were gone "I think you haven't totally understood what I said earlier. I don't want to hear A SINGLE WORD ! As a punishment for your friend's ridiculous pseudo-rebellion, I will turn down the heating system and leave you in the cold to think about what you've done."
With a last furious glance, he left the room with a cruel smirk. "They want us to break down and to turn against each other by punishing everyone for Sean's mistake so that we will hand them the killer", Mark bitterly thought. Despite his anger and his disgust at such a horrible method, he had to admit that it was pretty clever.
Pete and Sean came back the next morning. Everyone sent them questioning looks but they didn't even glance at the other students for a second. They kept staring at the ground and went separate ways to sit in a dark corner of the room, alone. Neither of them made a gesture to join or even acknowledge their friends. They looked tired, both physically and mentally. Pete curled up on the floor and closed his eyes to sleep. Sean, however, stayed awake but he seemed lost. He kept staring at the wall with an empty gaze. That struck Mark. Sean had always been a cheerful and restless guy who liked to show his excitement, to talk loudly, to make big movements, he couldn't stay in one place. But, this time, he seemed out of phase, utterly broken. At this sight, Mark couldn't help but feel a shiver run through him. This was simply ghastly.602Please respect copyright.PENANAS6L1uCDzN6
