You ran and ran with all you’re might. You could hear the horrible sounds coming from behind you. They were just toying with you and there was little you could do about it. All you wanted was to take that one day back and have lived a normal mundane life. Of course, it was human nature to want more and more. So, you too wanted more. It had been ten years since that dreadful day and all you wanted to do was take it all back. No fame, no fortune, no women, no anything. Just a normal picket fence life would have been fine with you.
An unnatural howl came from behind you as you trampled through the leaves, bumping into trees as you went along. They were nipping as your heels, playing with their food before supper time. It must have been like a game to them but that mattered little now. You had no chance of escape but that didn’t mean you weren’t going to try. So, try and you might, they were still always right there behind you. You couldn’t see them but you could hear each step they took. The cold air made running more difficult. Each breath you took was more strained than the last. Every breath of air felt like it was full of needles and razor blades. Your lungs were ready to give out but your continued your stride until you found an old shed in the woods. You ran inside only to catch a breather and locked the door with a nearby shovel.
You breathe and moan in pain as you try to catch your breath. Your muscles ached and you weren’t sure how much longer you could keep it up. But you had to, no matter what. You refused to let that black-eyed bitch win this fight for your life. You heard the whimpers and groans of the beasts that chased you as they slammed into the side of the building. All you could smell was rotten eggs and wet dog as their growls soon surrounded you once again. They were on the outside but you knew it wouldn’t be long before they found their way inside. You were prepared though, to make another run at least. You had one more salt bomb left and you pulled out your zippo light to fuse. The sizzle of the fuse going down had your heart racing once again. You took a deep breath and opened the door. Before the beasts could plow their way inside you threw it and slammed the door shut.
BOOM! You heard as it exploded and the poor mutts whimpered in pain. You took your chance and bolted out the door once again. Sprinting with all your strength, you ran back through the forest of terror and back into some random person’s backyard. You climbed over the fences and dove over obstacles as you tried to make your escape. It was to no avail. They were right on your heels, just as fast as ever. Finally, your legs gave out and you tumbled to the ground. You quickly flipped to your back and sat up but you could feel their breath on your face. It smelt of something horrible but you couldn’t place the stench. Like a pack of wolves, they surrounded you and all at once they pounced. You felt at least four bite into you and rip at your flesh. Their claws and teeth ripped your skin like it was paper.
You lay there bloody, beaten and helpless when you saw a light. From the light a man appeared. His golden aura suggested he would be an angel but he was anything but. He reached into your being and yanked with so much force you felt your soul being detached from your body. In that moment, you finally stopped caring. You laid there and in your final moments and saw as the man turned from gold to red. A pair of horns appeared on his head and a red pitch fork in his hand. The devil had won, and he claimed your soul. You don’t know how you lived so long while his hellhounds chewed on your body but in the end, it didn’t matter. Your run was over. The chase was over. Your life was over.
Your eyes close but immediately you open them back to find yourself in a white room strapped to a chair. There is a large white door in front of you. The metal slit slides open and you heard a voice.
“What are the results of the serum?” He askes.
“He has experienced no change.” Another voice says from behind you.
“Continue the treatment.” The voice outside the door remarks.
“Of course, doctor.” The voice behind you answers.
“Fuck you, Dr. Angel!” You shout just as you hear the metal slit grinding to a close.
