"Matthew I cannot do this." I whisper yelled into my phone at 3 am in the night. "I just finished going through all the files you gave me, and all I understood from this is that I've been set up to fail." I hiss. "I swear to god, if you were in on this too, my ghost WILL haunt you forever." I ramble.
"Slow down. It's 3 am, and I don't have enough thinking capacity or patience to deal with you right now, Nyx." Matthew grumbles groggily. "Oh yeah? Well too bad, cuz if you hang up, I will kill myself, and then communicate with you through my ghost." I blabber.
"...Why are you like this." He sighs, giving in. "I'm exquisite." I smile to myself. "Alright, now what's wrong?" He asks, clearing his throat. "I went through the files and found a lotta things about this Rudolf person as well." I start.
"Alright, his name's Ivan, okay?" Matthew corrected. "Right..." I mutter, not really caring enough. "What about him?" He then asks. "Over a hundred bounty hunters have been sent after him in his entire life, ever since he ran away when he was 16." I get to the point.
"Pretty sure you knew that already." Matthew scoffs, referring to the entire contract. "Well yeah, but they never mentioned that none of them ever returned-" I gulp. "Even if they would've returned, it's not like the Ishcheykas would've let them live anyway." Matthew adds casually.
"Failure is not an option for them." He mocks Adrik's accent.
"So you knew?" I ask, my face softening. "Nyx, I-" He starts. "No, you knew about it and yet decided to never tell me about it." I don't let him complete. "Nini, please..." He sighs, but I cut him off yet again. "Don't 'Nini' me." I scoff, my blood boiling by now.
"You knew, and did nothing about it. You were in on this. You're just as bad at the other Reapers- I can't believe I trusted you!" I began yelling now. "I did try to warn you!" He defends. "But you never stopped me!" I point out. "Because this offer was the only way out for you!" He yells.
"You were about to die, Nyx. I fucking saved your ass, yet again!" He scoffs. "Yeah well, I didn't need your fucking saving. My death is imminent anyway." I snarl. "This mission is your best chance at survival." He speaks calmly now.
"Bruh, no one ever survives- this mission is a sham!" I panic. "The only reason I didn't stop you from taking it is because you're the only one who CAN survive this mission." He says. "Oh wow, that just makes things loads better." I roll my eyes.
"Imagine trying to sugarcoat betrayal. Couldn't be you." I guffaw fakely, tears streaming down my face. How could he? He was the only person I ever trusted- But clearly that was a mistake. "Nini... You're overthinking things again." He sighs.
"Please try getting some sleep. You always assume the worst of everything." He mumbles. "Yeah, everything except you." I scoff. "But clearly that was a mistake." I lower my voice now. "But guess what? I don't make the same mistakes twice." I wipe my tears.
"Nyx Hart, don't you hang up--" Matthew starts, but he was too late. I hung up already, and blocked him on all platforms. Including his alts and extra numbers, which took a long time, cuz he has waaay too many identities.
Once I was finally done, I just sat on my bed, staring blankly at the pile of files stacked on the bed, in front of me. Anger consumes me all of a sudden, and I let out a scream of frustration, and kick those papers, knocking them down, resulting in them scattering everywhere.
"FUCK-" I cursed, clutching my paper-cut foot, standing up and pacing around the room, unable to think clearly. Matthew was right. I do overthink a lot, and I am a little messed up as well whenever I don't get sufficient sleep.
But right now, I needed some fresh air to calm down, more than sleep.
So that's exactly what I did. Since I hadn't completely unpacked yet, and was already dressed in my pjs, too lazy to change out of it, I grabbed a flannel and put it on. I wore my sneakers, grabbed my mini-knife and a pack of cigarettes, and left.
I didn't really know my way around really well, but I always did like exploring places anyway. I think I'm not allowed to step outta my dorm this late at night. But as long as I avoid humanity in general, I think I'll be fine.
I took a lotta wrong turns, and almost got caught by the RA too, but eventually, I made it to a spot on the roof, which I don't think people would notice very easily. It was small, unnoticeable, but also perfect. Once I reached, I admired the view.
The cool breeze hitting my face had a tranquillizing effect on me. It was like I could finally breathe again, and focus on more positive aspects of life. Like maybe how beautiful this place was, and how lucky I am to get an opportunity to get to be here, even if it's just for sometime.
I lit up a cigarette and lied on the ground, gazing at the starry sky. Maybe I overreacted a little. I shouldn't have been so rude to him, especially after all that he has done for me... But then again, I'm really not sure what to believe anymore.
If he wanted me dead, he could've killed me a long time ago. Unless he didn't have the heart for it, so he wanted someone else to do so. But then again, he could've made that happen a long time ago too by just hiring someone!209Please respect copyright.PENANAhDMza0WsFC
Ugh, this is so confusing.
Does he really think that? Do I really stand a chance to survive? Does this... Rudolf person, really deserve to be killed? I've never really thought much about all my other victims. Mainly because I was the one assigned to kill them all.
But this time... Well, it's a father who wants me to bring his son to him so that he can kill his son. What has the son even done to deserve any of this? That is something I shall probably never understand. Not that I want to anyway.
But I just can't help but wonder.
