Passion flowers (Passiflora spp.) are a beautiful variety of flowers, usually found on the continents of North and South America. They are a fruit-bearing angiosperms with stunning purple, blue, pink, red and white colored petals. Their unique petal shapes make them a very striking pop of color in the boring landscape of green grasses and leaves. They are perennials with clinging vine-like tendrils; they usually bloom during the summer, towards the last month of the season. Another fun fact about this plant is that, depending on the specific kind, their fruit can actually be edible. Seeing that I live in the southeastern portion of the United States, I actually have had my own encounter with the plants, I have even taken the time to dissect one of the flowers and one of the pod-like fruits that it produces. Overall, these flowers are a beautiful example of the variety that exists in our world.
