This is an alternate timeline from my book idea. It doesn't have a title, though. Enjoy :)
"I-I have to leave." The words popped out of Kumi's mouth after taking so long to say. "I don't think my parents will go. But I-" Kumi's mouth went quiet. She questioned her sanity. How could she leave her family? What if she would be okay if she stayed?
But she knew the truth. She knew that she couldn't come back. She kept thinking of the old man in the bus, and how he had been treated. Kumi could only expect worse for herself.
"You're serious." Yasny realized, the light in her faint blue eyes fading. "But what about The Creed and The Director? Aren't they good? W-why would you want to leave them?" Yasny asked, her face contorting with sadness.
Kumi hesitated. Maybe it's better to stay. "Yasny...don't you ever stop and wonder if The Creed isn't the best thing ever? That they lie? They might as well be lying about where I'm going to end up tomorrow. Maybe it's not a school. Maybe they send me to the front lines and force me to fight. Then I never come back. I want to stay, Yasny, believe me, I do. But I can't."
Yasny got up, and started pancing around like a trapped animal. "There's something wrong here. I'm not as upset as I should be." Kumi frowned. "Upset?"
"Upset?! Of course I am! You can't disobey orders and...why don't I feel so angry about this? This feels wrong. I'm not thinking clearly. You shouldn't leave. I don't want to allow you to. But I..." She fell back down to the ground, and started to cry. "Yasny. I'll be okay. I promise." Yasny wiped her cheeks. "I know you would. But you can't betray orders. What type of person would that make me be, if I allow you to do this?" Kumi looked at her feet sheepishly. "A good friend." She responded.
Suddenly, Yasny grabbed at the pills. "I need to take these." Kumi looked up. She tried to grab them out of Yasny's hand instinctively. "No-Yasny! They won't help!" But even so, Yasny stuffed a few in her mouth and swallowed. "Kumi." She said coolly, like a realization coming to her head. "This is a mistake. You know it. This would be betrayal. No, I cannot allow this to happen."213Please respect copyright.PENANAYOJUKGlII2
"Yasny. Please-I need to go." Kumi said. Yasny continued to block the cave exit. Yasny got her transponder. Kumi started to scream, realizing that something that was used for being close friends was now going to be used against her. Yasny dialed the large, clunky, metal transponder. It caught a signal quickly. "Hello. I have a rogue person who is betraying The Creed. I am right outside the Dead Springs Neighborhood in Brachia."213Please respect copyright.PENANA0W6eb3PZbZ
"Yasny!" Kumi yelled, charging at her best friend. She ducked as Yasny tried to grab her, making her way out of the cave. Kumi ran down the hill in the darkness. She felt Yasny right at her throat. But as Kumi saw the light glowing in her neighborhood, she saw Overseers. They had come at a moments' notice. 213Please respect copyright.PENANAyb0DLwSP8R
She ran parralel to the neighborhood, scanning it to see where she could hide. But she saw Overseers running up the hill, and she knew that she had to run farther. 213Please respect copyright.PENANAragsgC324a
She spotted an open door in the back of a house. She ran down the hill, jumped over the short picket fence and ran to the door. Inside was an old woman, sitting still on a chair in the quiet night. Her eyebrows contorted when she saw Kumi. The bright blue eyes were locked onto Kumi with piercing anger.213Please respect copyright.PENANA3GnTfwA0Mj
"You better get out. Good for nothing." She shouted fiercely, but with a sense of sly calmness. She knew what would happen to Kumi, and she would enjoy every second of it. Kumi ran behind to the walls, cowering under the window.
"I will make you suffer in your last moments. We never wanted you here. Get away." Her mere words made Kumi shiver.213Please respect copyright.PENANAQ3laLi9zhP
Kumi heard footsteps outside the house. The old woman's shouting had worked. Kumi stood up and ran towards the front of the house. She escaped into the neighborhood, but ran straight. She ran inbetween two small houses and out into the hills again.
She kept running and running, feeling her spirit slightly freer. When she ran, she had no rules to abide to. But she knew what was happening if she didn't run fast enough. 213Please respect copyright.PENANAhswUOm6o1x
She stopped for a second, behind a large rock. She fell down, trying to hide behind it. She couldn't run any farther. For her own life, she couldn't run any farther. How stupid she was.213Please respect copyright.PENANAADl4q2uLjv
But as she heard the rustling of the grass, she knew her fate was sealed.213Please respect copyright.PENANAnUhyAfIuDF
"Kumi Slamva. You're being sent to mindlessness for defying The Creed." Kumi felt a chill, and then she never felt anything ever again.
