Cameron managed a little self-discipline and pushed Winter away from him, getting up off the bed and glanced at her...
She was still asleep... thank God...
So he stepped over to the mini fridge in the bedroom they were in, shuffling through some candy bars until he reached the back...
He glanced back at Winter to make sure she wasn’t watching... and when he was in the clear, he grasped a bag of o-negative blood, downing the entire bag in a matter of seconds...
When he kicked the fridge door closed, he threw the empty bag in the trash, checking the bed again.
All good.
So he closed his eyes and dove deep into himself, erasing every thought of what he was about to do...
He wouldn’t bite her... no...
Never...
And he opened his eyes, wiping the back of his hand across his mouth and his pale skin came back red, but he didn’t really care...
He climbed in next to Winter again, but didn’t pull her to him this time...
Just watched her sleep blissfully... like she was an angel from heaven...

When Winter woke the next morning, the sun was still rising from the east, making the sky glow pink, but the rest drowned out to a dark blue.
She stared off at the window, lashes lowered from exhaustion that still lingered from waking.
When she looked down to herself, she noticed that there was a soft, feathery blanket draped over her, and she was still lying on that bed Cam put her in, but when she managed to roll over onto the other side of the bed, she noticed that the spot where Cameron laid... was empty...
Her brows pinched together, and she blinked, thinking that when she opened her eyes, he would be there...
But he wasn’t...
So she sat up, the blanket falling down to her waist but she didn’t really notice the cold bitter air sink into her skin, just slipped her feet off the bed and dropped them to the ground, standing.
She thought for a second that her knees would buckle due to her being paralyzed the night before... but her legs were strong and supportive... and she stepped over to the bedroom door, turning the cold knob and opening it.
She looked up and down the empty halls, seeing no one...
Where was Cam? Was he gone? Should she call his name?
But she decided to stay quiet when her eyes locked on the front door, and she quietly tip-toed to the end of the hall.
She expected him to jump out any moment... saying something like, “Where do you think you’re going?” or something...
But he never showed.
And when she made it to the end of the hall, she noticed that there was a living room on her right and a kitchen on her left with sparkling granite counters and dark grey stools lined around the edges...
She would’ve stepped over to the front door, but she mistakenly looked back to the living room first...
In between all the grey, leather couches and in front of the glass coffee table... stood Cam...
She saw something red drip off his lips, contrasting his pale skin... and his canines extended past his lips...
Maybe he cut his lip when his fangs formed? Was that why there was blood?
But she looked to the floor, seeing someone lying on the ground...
He had dark hair matted with blood, and his eyes colorless and grey... staring at the ceiling in horror...
She went cold... heart thudding against her chest...
He... killed... him...
Cam... killed... an innocent person...
Winter covered her mouth with a hand, letting out a gasp she didn’t mean to escape...
Cam’s head snapped to her, and his eyes rounded for a second, as if he never noticed her...
He was breathing harshly, as if the person he murdered put up a fight...
Why wouldn’t he? Who wanted a vampire to kill him? He was probably horrified and was fighting for his life!
But now he was dead on the ground... blood staining the white carpet red.
And now she was next...
She started backing away without knowing it, and Cameron’s widened eyes now narrowed.
“Winter,” he warned.
She kept on stepping backwards, holding her hands to her chest as tears stung her eyes, breaths coming out strained as if her lungs were seizing...
“Don’t run,” he said a little sternly. “You can’t run.”
Her heart burst at his words, and tears streamed down her cheeks as she darted to the front door, only to find him blocking it seconds later.
“Winter,” he said, “stop it. I can explain.”
Her cheeks were drenched, but a fire ignited in her eyes, burning her skin. “Let me go.”
“No.”
“LET ME GO!”
He still kept the same tone. “No.”
So she slapped him so hard across the face, that the sound echoed through the room, and he fell over slightly so she shoved him down so his head hit the hardwood, and a loud crack echoed through the air...
She didn’t know if it was the floor or his skull, but she wasn’t going to wait and find out...
She threw open the front door and darted out of his house, deciding not to take in her surroundings and just ran... tears burning her eyes like poison and streaming down her cheeks like hot metal...
Stupid... she thought. You’re so stupid...
